    I did the same thing with Chinese headset battery before 3 years.. and used li-ion charging circuit with built in mirco usb port.. all components can fit into the remote battery compartment.. without using resistors and useless led indicators, switches( remote can handle extra 1.2v that full charged battery holds) .. it's still working for today and only charged twice for 3 years lifespan..

    I just use rechargeables. I just retired of last batch of 10 YEARS. If you slow charge them, and put fans on yhe charger/batteries it will make them last a VERY long time. I just got new Tenergy Premium Pro's to retire my old ones and they're worlds better than what batteries use to be. Plus I don't have to solder nothing. A great charger and good pair of rechargeables are the way to go. But have fun! Haha

    If that remote gets dropped, all those poorly soldered joints are vulnerable to breaking. It never ceases to amaze me that UA-camrs who demonstrate soldering never mechanically secure the devices being soldered - they simply use tack soldering as if that was an acceptable permanent solder connection.

      If it's soldering of stationery objects like DIY lab bench PSU, then this is fine. I can agree in this case though, since the remote is usually not stationery, but it's hard to secure it in a compact space, that's why this guy used hot glue to glue the solder joints to keep it better together.
      You can't exactly fit bubble wrap in there 🤣.

    • @stevebabiak6997
      @stevebabiak6997 3 роки тому +2

      @@Carlium - I worked in the electronics industry for a couple of decades, before the advent of surface mounted devices. Any solder joint, that was not a component on a through hole PCB, was first required to be mechanically secured before any solder was applied. No exceptions. No such thing as insufficient space for twisting the wires together first, even in this kind of simple project. And for the most part, the electronic devices I worked on remained stationary almost their entire operating life.
      And one thing you are not even considering is thermal effects; changes in ambient temperatures will cause thermal expansion and contraction between things that are of dissimilar materials. And even in a simple project like this, you have components that are made of dissimilar materials in their composition.

    • @Carlium
      @Carlium 3 роки тому +3

      @@stevebabiak6997
      It was just a joke, lol.
      I hear what you say, and I actually do twist wires together before soldering, and I also use shrinking tube for extra insulation. I also use various types of strain reliefs too.
      In my last project I did twist, solder and use shrinking tubes on the wires.
      It's harder to twist two components with only one wire, but it's possible (sometimes).
      When it comes to thermal effects, well, how often do you take the remote outdoors in the snow or in the oven? I'd guess you'd probably say rarely. So yes one could that into consideration, but considering that it will be used indoors (15-30C depending on location), it won't be too noticeable.
      The thing that irritates me the most here, is the fact that the charging port is loose, one of those wires will fall off (soon).
      Either way, I would just use rechargeable batteries in this situation, and voilà, everything looks cleaner.

    • @WeebLabs
      @WeebLabs 3 роки тому

      You are absolutely correct that the joints showcased in great deal of content are inadequate but it is important to bear in mind that having a camera or lighting rig in the way greatly compromises the achievable standard of work. This is easily overlooked by those who do not need to shoot video while working. Not everybody has access to a simul-focal AmScope, after all!

    Charging time is 10 minutes??!? That’s way too fast. It’s because you’re using the charge circuit from one battery to charge a different, much smaller battery. Is it even a charge circuit or is it just a protection circuit??? I wouldn’t ever routinely charge a LiPo battery at a rate greater than 1C. It can be done a little faster, but 6C? WFT? You’re going to cause a fire.

    Great video. Cool DIY. My question is...why aren't remotes and other such devices using the same concept as cell phones today with built in rechargeable batteries that dont come out instead? Itd be more practical.

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V 3 роки тому +1

      It's not at all practical because this type of device uses such little power that a set of regular AAA batteries generally lasts for well over a year, sometimes even two or three years. There's no need to integrate a rechargeable solution in the first place. Permanent rechargeable batteries are suited best for high drain devices which would otherwise require very frequent battery replacement.

    • @HBProductions.
      @HBProductions. 3 роки тому

      @@Krankie_V i get what your saying but tech right now has small enough batteries for lightweight devices too. A properly developed design on this very video demonstrates that such a tiny and sufficiently powered power supply could be integrated and a simple micro usb adaptwr could be put in place for when needed. Eliminating the need for 3rd party batteries. Hell they'd probably bump up da price on the remote too if its a universal remote. Id imagine that even a watch battery or two could do the trick maybe if soldered properly with the transistor/resistor.

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V 3 роки тому +1

      @@HBProductions. it's not worth the complexity and hassle for a device which only needs a new battery every 2 dang years. There's a reason that built in rechargeable batteries are almost totally exclusive to high drain or frequent use items. If it would only need a recharge every 6 months or a year.... It doesn't need to have a built in battery.
