You'll get busses, Autos to almost any corner of the city from almost anywhere....so no need to take expensive taxi rides (likes this one) * We address strangers on the street as 'Dada' (means elder brother, the female noun is 'Didi' or elder sister). Sourav Ganguly (the cricketer) is from Kolkata and he is reknowned as 'Dada' * You are in a Historic city, the British capital of India. Hence, you'll find some parts of the city is still stuck in their 50's heritage * Truth is, the city is still somewhat economically backward than some other states of India. So, you'll need to adjust with certain 'shortcomings'. Don't worry it's not too bad though, there is still a modern (and luxurious) Kolkata you can enjoy * 'Nomoshkar' is the Bengali version of 'Namaskar' or 'Namaste'.
