    Wow! This is inspiring! You did a beautiful job. Mine are nothing close to being as matted and i really just didn't think i had any options but to shave...i think my biggest issue is the uncertainty of knowing WHEN to let them go...

    Iv’e been working on my wife’s dreads she had done six weeks ago and I thought I had my work cut out.
    Fighting with the loose bits and hairy frizz, learning as I go.
    Must have been the odd swear word from one or both of you off camera 🤣
    Good workout for your arm muscles though.😃

    No disrespect intended, but i will never understand why people think, "I'm gonna let my hair get as matted as a shelter dog and not wash it for years"....😮

      He washed his hair regularly. His hair was quite clean, considering. But everyone has a different reason. I try not to judge anyone for their choices regarding their hair.

      Yea #1 thing people who don't know anything ab dreads think is that people with dreads don't wash they hair for years lol. We do way more care & maintenance than most yall slick heads. It's annoying 😑

    • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy
      @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy  2 місяці тому +2

      @@mkupbyjess8300 haha it's colonialism that has taught people to think dreadlocks are unclean. It's directly related to people trying to take nature out of the equation which is also a divisive tool of racism.
      We just have to do our best to either educate people or let them keep their ignorance. I get too annoyed wondering how people have so much time on their hands that they can worry about what other people do with their hair.

    What you stand for is not wanting to wash your hair. 😂😂😂😂

    • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy
      @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy  4 місяці тому

      I don't understand how I stand for that at all. Where did I say anything about not washing? That is an absolute misconception about dreadlocks.

    • @luludust
      @luludust 3 місяці тому

      What an ignorant comment. I know more people without dreads who have terrible hygiene and stinky ass heads then those with. If you aren't going to wash your hair, you aren't going to wash it regardless if you have dread or not. I wash mine twice a week and they always smell, and are, clean.

  • @ninalefevre3467
    @ninalefevre3467 4 місяці тому +3

    No way that hair is clean. The smell must be horrific.

    • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy
      @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy  4 місяці тому

      There was absolutely no smell and the hair was clean because he did a very intensive detox before seeing me. What you are seeing in The video is the skin that got trapped overtime. Not dirt, skin. Our scalp releases skin all the time along with the rest of our body. Most people are able to shed it off as it's coming out. His hair was holding onto it in the deepest parts.

    No. Cut them, soak them in dawn because…gross, the reform. Locs can be beautiful and clean and beat. Or they can look like nasty dirty neglect dreads

    Why does he think 'real dreads' are just natural matted up hair? Seriously where in history was that the case. In every culture I have seen the hair is intentionally formed into dreads.

    • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy
      @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy  4 місяці тому +1

      That's not true at all. There is both naturally forming dreadlocks, which happens when you don't have access to a hairbrush or choose not to brush your hair and then there are several ways to get an intentional hairstyle that are considered locs. historically, those who were coming from a spiritual background, chose to allow their hair to lock up naturally without sectioning, unless it got uncomfortable, like this guy, and then they tear apart as needed. Dreadlocks are a very complex, subject matter with many many facets.

      @@briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy Dreads as a cultural/spiritual style in which you will see many people with the same hair style is what I am talking about. I do not know of any cultural/spiritual mass use of natural matted hair like this man has as a style of dreads. The oldest depiction of dreads is in Egyptian statutes that date back nearly 4,000 years ago and they are sectioned, Lord Shiva is depicted with sectioned dreads, monks have sectioned dreads, tribes in Africa have sectioned dreads and that list goes on and on. Not only that their sectioning is often distinctly unique to their culture and not individually unique as natural matting is. I would like to know what culture used natural matted hair as a style of dreads and how those can be determined to be the 'real' ones invalidating all these other cultures dreads as somehow not real because I cannot find any evidence of it.

    • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy
      @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy  4 місяці тому +3

      OK gotcha. I definitely don't think he meant to invalidate anyone. Often times people say things on camera quickly talking and then it is what it is and you can't really go back in and explain yourself because you're just trying to get words out. So the matting is what happens naturally, and the sectioning is what happens when you pull them apart. I think that in his head, he felt like pulling them apart, not being natural, and that was his own personal journey with the concept of carrying a burden. I'm not going to share his story Too much because it is his, but I will say that it had a lot to do with like a self-inflicted burden. I think the fact that he was open to having them sectioned, shows his personal growth in his personal journey of no longer feeling like he had to be uncomfortable in order to prove himself to God.
      Most people who are spiritual leaders, have a certain amount of guidance through their process, healing and training. If you have someone like that in your life, they would tell you that you don't need to be uncomfortable to this degree in order to show your conviction. He was following his instincts.
      And again, I will go back to the fact that matting is what happens to the hair naturally, how you position it is it Matts, and sectioning the hair for comfort and cleanliness is not going against nature, but rather, working with it.
