"Women's Work": Art by women, known and unknown

- For generations the artistic contributions of women have been marginalized by the art world and by society in general. In "Women's Work," a new exhibit at Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown, New York, pieces by female artists past and present are displayed alongside works created by women in a domestic setting, often anonymously. Correspondent Faith Salie looks at how "unimportant" historical objects are now viewed through a modern eye.

This was an excellent segment because women's art is often not given the recognition it deserves. Another artist is Akiane Kramarik, who painted the "Prince of Peace" painting at age 8 that was featured in the book "Heaven is for Real." She has created so much more in the 20 years since that painting. The depth and diversity of her artwork is pretty incredible.
Akiane was so lucky to have parents who supported her art, although there were many critics, who thought her parents shouldn't have made any money off her work, because it was a "gift from God" so it should have been given away for free. As one man answered back "God doesn't leave them free groceries on the back porch each morning, so the family still needs to eat."

Ask galleries and museums for a women’s show once a year. The High and the Booth-Western are moving in that direction of equality. We need more equality, not more slavery/submissive living.

When I hear the word marginalized I feel it's a justification of people's acquiescence of the past or even present to lend importance or credence to the present situation. There are plenty of great female artists represented from the past and the present. The world is not an equal place race, gender, religion, economic status Etc... for many reasons right or wrong or indifferent's. So when where and how specifically where or are female artists of the past or present marginalized.

There are lots of galleries that show women's art. What's the difference between women's art and men's art and why would anyone care? I've been in lots of solo and group art shows. I've never seen men get preferential treatment over women. Art is art and either people will buy it or they won't. Mostly what makes the difference is if the artist is someone famous. If not, forget it. Nobody wants your art.

I didn't see the women work from the Aztec race where was the women's work from the Maya race how many work pieces they were from the Inca race native American the Slavic race the indigenous races there was limited on a Jewish race and the Asian race and I didn't see any work at all from the American Alaskan natives at all it seems that it was put together on the races bias and I didn't see any Mexican women work either I guess these people don't matter to the a art world racist
I totally see where you are coming from.
Lazy women didn't make art...
Relax. I'm a Mexican female and didn't find this offensive at all.
