    We had a baked potato bar for Christmas Eve two years ago where we had chili, bacon, cheese, onions, sour cream and it was delicious! We’ve also done the roast oven full of potatoes to make for baked potatoes for a large crowd . So good and easy!

    Hi Becky! The technique you were referring to is a beurre manie. It is very useful, especially if you’ve already added a thicker but find you need more.

    88° here in central Arkansas today so I plugged my slow cooker in out in the sunroom so it wouldn’t fight my air conditioner. Next month the slow cooker will be a nice heat source for INSIDE cooking! 🍁

    Another great way to have chili is to make an omelette with cheese and top it with the chili, makes for a delicious breakfast for dinner. I serve mine with a side of buttered toast.

    Fun tip: to get more flavor out of your garlic powder add a little water to a small amount and let it rehydrate before putting it in your recipe. Be cautious though, it is really potent.

    I'm on team beurre manié😊. If you want to thicken the sauce in your slow cooker, once it's been cooking for several hours you can put the pot on high and leave the lid ajar for the last 1/2 hour. I usually put the extractor on as it does make steam but it stops the sauce being too watery. I also have a suggestion for people who prefer to cook without wine - as you said add a bit of extra broth but add a couple of tablespoons of wine, sherry or apple cider vinegar. Make sure it gets right up to a fierce boil for a couple of minutes to take off the acidity. If you like things a bit sweet balsamic vinegar might be good. The vinegar adds the extra depth of flavour that wine gives. I do this often if I don't want to open a whole bottle of wine.

    I’d take some of the ham pieces and put them in the slow cooker the last thirty minutes so it’s warm and it breaks it down more so the texture matched.

    She was referring to a beurre manie.A roux is cooked butter and flour, a beurre manie is flour mixed into softened butter to thicken a sauce. Same ingredients, different application. Becky these recipes look so good!

    There used to be a restaurant in Westwood, near the UCLA campus called Jerry’s who made the best grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich. When my husband was undergoing treatment at UCLA Medical Center it was my sneak away for a break from their cafeteria, which wasn’t a bad place to eat either… I’d never heard of or tried a grilled PB&J prior to eating theirs, Life changing! I’ve made it many times since then, both as a lunch, dinner or a late night snack. Grilled Nutella is also a home run snack! So yummy 😋

    Butter & flour to thicken is a roux. I’ve recently discovered adding flour to sour cream and it’s great.

    I recently saw a video from either America's Test Ktchen or Cook's Country where they did a Cuban sandwich. The person who presented it a tually went to research it in Florida (I think) where it is popular. You could look it up on UA-cam because that is where I found it.

    I’m Australian, I asked a similar question about Italian sausage on another channel and got a similar answer. I’ve managed to find Italian sausage in some specialty places but it’s a lot more expensive that most of the meat I would usually buy, so I’ve found a recipe to season ground (minced) pork myself to keep the price down and try some of the recipes using Italian sausage I’ve seen here and on other channels/websites. The one I’m going to try is on Allrecipes, but I’m sure there are others and people can tweak the seasonings to their taste of course

    Instead of ground beef, cut up a Chuck roast into cubes and use that for beef stroganoff. I have to tell you.. I’m addicted to your channel.

    From the land of the Cuban sandwich: it’s on Cuban bread (like French bread with a softer crust) and yellow mustard. The outside is buttered and put on a sandwich press. Yum.
    Also grilled pbj is awesome

    Hi! I am not a vegan or a vegeterian, we eat meat 2-3 times a week.But not every day. Can you suggest some recepies without meat, or cheese or cream, its not healthy eating those daily. Please don't get me wrong, you are my favourite, I have made some of your recepies, and I love your cooking.

    In the winter we make beef stroganoff with mushrooms. In the summer we make chicken stroganoff with cream of chicken instead of cream of mushroom, and corn instead of mushrooms. It’s a nice change to the traditional stroganoff!

    PB&J with bananas is also good. You. Can also make baked potatoes in your air fryer and inside of potato is so fluffy and good. Prep same as you did for slow cooker except wrap in foil and cook about an hour or until done. If you have any left over, put in refrigerator and next day cut them up with skins on or off and fry them. My Mom used to make extra baked potatoes so she could fry next morning with our breakfast. They are so delicious. You can eat them with most anything.

    Hi! I usually love your channel and your recipes are awesome. However I am Cuban and I have to point out a few things: you didn't really make a "Cuban sandwich" what you made was a modified PULLED PORK pork sandwich. A traditional Cuban sandwich requires ROASTED PORK that gets thinly sliced and put together with tavern ham slices. The rest of your recipe is pretty on point. I would only suggest mixing equal parts of orange and lime/lemon juices. Most importantly, to roast the pork is not necessary to pour the juice over the pork as it roasts. The juice should be injected into the raw meat and allowed to marinate overnight.
    You shouldn't need thinner ham if you use roasted, sliced pork.

    Your recipe list says Cuban Beef Sandwiches, but you used a pork roast. Could you use a beef roast? Is pork more typical?

      Yes, Pork is the traditional but as a Cuban it will not be a bad idea trying with beef. No orange juice plz, use sour orange, if not found use Cuban mojo found in most stores or Hispanic stores.

    Next time if you haven’t tried it yet or not. Spread a very lite layer of mayonnaise on your bread instead of butter. It have a salty buttery fried flavor. It important not to use to much mayo because it makes it to oily and odd flavor.
