In this DIY video, I am repairing and restoring a vintage Scythe. Woodwork can be satisfying especially on old antique hand tools like this. We are going to use it around the homestead for those jobs that the weed eater can't take care of. Be sure and follow us for more antique tool repair and restoration.

If you ever consider changing the name of your channel may I offer a suggestion, let’s call it “Richard’s Classroom”. We all learn something new every time…….You’re the Man!

    Good job Richard.
Back in 1959 when Dad brought his block of land, in our hometown, long grass and used one of these, I seem to remember that the sharp end was at 90% to the handle?

my dad tells me stories about watching guys work cutting grass along roadsides with a scythe. They would take a break and have a sharpening stone in their pocket that they could pull out and give the blade a quick sharpening every now and then. I used one several times as a kid to trim underneath our electric fence. We didn't have gas powered weed wackers back then.

That sounds like hard work, Dan! What I wouldn’t give to rewind time and just spend a few days. -Jennifer

Still love the old hand tools. I think they just work better. An old farmer friend taught me how to sharpen them. Every time I use one - the old memories keep coming back. Well Done my friend!!

Back in the olden days they used to put the left hand at threads on there because when you're slinging it sometimes your hand turns it and loosens the boat so they changed them to left handed threads is what my grandfather told me

Loved you making the handle for the Hand Si !!! I use to have to cut weeds down around the outhouse when I was a kid !!! Had a big Willow Tree behind the old Outhouse and our trash burn barrel at the side so had to hand Si cause couldn't get the old push mower around all the stuff!!! Also had an old double cut smaller swing Si for weeds around the Fence Rows!!!
