only thing i see different between this and previous is nicer graphics apart from that nothing else cant place signals anymore its done automatically in this one. dont think i will be buying anytime soon unless its in sale
@@markbolam1383 Just played the full tutorial and a small chunk of the first campaign level. So far there are very minor changes, most obvious one being gridirons, which don't really add much except making it easier to place switches for stations. Manual signaling seems to be gone in this game, which causes issues (I had 2 parallel tracks for freight and one extra for express, the express one was 2 way and thus did not have signals, meaning my cargo trains were waiting at the station for my express train to do the full track). There also seems to be a bug with waypoints (when you have a waypoint in your route the train just does not unload at the station prior to the waypoint).
There's actually less content than RE1 in RE2. Granted, the world map is bigger but gameplay elements such as monthly challenges, the random map editor (which created unlimited landscapes) are both missing as well as all trains (plus their related tasks & scenarios) from 1910 onwards. Functionality wise they've also removed the zonal unlock system which brought an added layer of immersion to the table. I don't think you mentioned the non-working warehouse distribution system and the fact that it is now impossible to correctly connect a single track line (a rural industry, for example) to anything other than a station because the option to manually place signals in order to control train flow onto and off single lines has been removed....both of which could be classed as gamebreaking. I agree RE2 has got potential to be better than the original but 'as is' (at the time of this review) it's not there yet.
@@TsuneoMai Yes, my bad. Zonal unlocking is still present in the scenarios. The thing that initially threw me out was that the scenarios I initially tried (The UK "flying Scotsman" being one of them) allowed you to purchase the unlocks rather than earn them thru task completion...but after finishing them it did dawn on me that they were intentionally designed to be like that, so apologies for getting that bit wrong.
I loved Port Royale 4 and Grand Ages Medieval, I think I'm a fanboy of Gaming Minds 😅 sooo I think this one is on my radar even if I know nothing about trains
Excellent Review. Just wanted to ask… Skirmish mode you mentioned it had no budget?! Can you set up a game with AI competitors and have finances? I always preferred competing in an open map game on railroad tycoon games with ai companies. If you know this is available I’ll definitely be buying it! Thanks. The review is well structured and answered everything else :) nice job!!
Red Bananas! Good review... I'm sold on it. The price is way better than a 70 AAA game that fails in a week. I like the way you gave it to us straight, and I look forward to seeing more
What a huge disappointment at the end. Spent 12 game hours playing a "custom game", full map. Bought out a competitor. Finished all the tasks eight years early. The little voice in the left hand corner came on and said, "Now that's what I call a victory! You finished all the tasks and in less than the estimated time. Let's see your rating!".......My rating? "Intern" The lowest possible ranking on the list. Beautiful graphics, but there's apparently no way to get a high score.
@@TheCriticallyClueless I'm on the tutorial and it says about revenue numbers coming up from trains but none are visible. Is that because it is tutorial? Sorry for the questions honestly.
@@willokeefe1135 well it seems your a critic, but not on the game, but on the review, so I say again, if you feel it's not up to your standard, then feel free to do your own review.
I wish this review had done a better job of explaining the specific differences between the first game and this sequel.

Can't do signals. I waited so long for this release only to be dumped on. Not for me, will stick to RE1.
@@paulmorris5166 yep there should be a option to turn off automatic signals i prefer to place them myself its been dumbed down

Would be really cool if you talked about what’s new for RE2. Or the difference between 1 & 2

They do make good games tbf lol 🖖
Great review. Just a heads up, this comes out today on Xbox game pass today. Hopefully it's as good or better than Railway Tycoon 2 :)
Yeah and you don't need to pay 70 bucks for it on ps5, since it's a game pass on Xbox
Thanks for dropping this as soon as you could!
if i already have the first is it worth going to the second? it looks nearly identical.
Thanks for the review!

Yes you can compete against up to 4 ai on custom mode and set up the difficulty you desire
@@joshadelman5403 I bought it on Steam today, it’s very much Railroad Tycoon 3, I love it :)
Thanks for replying :)
Great review but your commentary audio is panned to the right for much of the video which is a bit hard on the ears with headphones.
Can somebody tell me what the differance is between this and transport fever 2 ?
Red Banana! probably a bit too complex for my 5yo Son but he does LOVE his trains!
Maybe a little,
I did review a simpler train game awhile ago though. Can't remember the name 🤔
Red Banana! It sounds like it's more complex than it initially appears, something to really sink some time in :)
