As a kid born in the mid 90's I loved Zellers as a child. While the small town I grew up in didn't have one (it had a Field's but they weren't the same) the significantly smaller town my grandma on my dad's side lived in did. While the store in my grandma's town didn't have a Zellers restaurant with it whenever my dad and I would visit my aunt who lived in the city where there was a restaurant we would always eat at the Zellers restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing, some of the best food I've had even to this day (I'm 26). The quantity of food you got with a meal was astonishing, always enough for tomorrow night's dinner ... then they would bring you the bill, it would be like $8.62 for two people who both have enough left over for tomorrow. At the store the staff were always so friendly and would happily help you find whatever you were looking for, something I've rarely experienced at any other box store. There was one other small town that my mom and I would often travel to for hockey which had a Zellers and I would always convince her to stop and I always had the same experiences there as I did in the city and other small town when I was with my dad. I'm sure I was in other Zellers as a kid but I specifically remember those three locations. Idk what it was about working there that made everyone so happy but I've seen interviews with people who worked there right up until the last day of their location and they all seem to say that it was just a great place to work, they were heartbroken that it was gone and that they didn't know what they were going to do come tomorrow because it was the only place they wanted to work. I really wish Zellers was still around today because now as an adult living in the city I would go there long before I'd go to a crapshoot with extremely unfriendly staff like Walmart
I have really fond memories of Zellers growing up. Although (correct me if I'm wrong)... I don't remember Walmart being all that much more cheaper. They were new, GIGANTIC, shelves were always stocked, a lot more staff, and I think generally cleaner, (as I remember some of the Zellers in the early 2000's getting a little dumpy looking). I think if Zellers hadn't sold out to Target, they might've hung on, but... who knows. I'm just glad they're making a come back, but we'll see how well it goes over. Things have changed in the last 10 years.
God I can remember growing up and going to Zellers alot as a kid especially eating there loved the triple z sandwich I can't remember what the name of the actual sandwich great store
I'm American and moved to Toronto in 2010, nearing the end of Zellers. I would shop there but found the stores kind of boring. I was excited when I heard Target was coming in. Then it finally did arrive. An American would not have recognized Target Canada as a Target store. They were sparsely merchandised and carried items that seemingly nobody would want. It was junk. Target owes Canada an apology. It made "the kind of boring" Zellers look vibrant and fresh.
With the resurrection of Zellers I wonder if any former employees would consider working for them again I know I know would and doubters need not reply
@@TheNSTLKIAChannel I'll say the shopping experience was wonderful. It was inexpensive and the retro family diner with the fries and gravy was to die for. I was 18 when it closed but it was such a great place to go shopping for any sort of supplies you needed and the clothes were also affordable. A plus was having to support a great Canadian brand. Now it SUCKS having to resort to Wal-Mart. I seriously miss it. I had the best memories going there as a kid as well
Always went to Zellers for back to school shopping throughout the 2000s-early 2010s. The Diner was also like a monthly tradition to go there with my family, loved the food there.

on Aug 17 2022, I saw this headline on CTV news: The return of Zellers: Hudson's Bay to resurrect Canadian discount retail chain
That’s why I’m here

Walmart entered the canadian market. Deal done. That was the beginning of the end. I loved Zellers and supporting a once Canadian institution.
damn zellers was depressing going there as a youngster lol
how was the experience shopping there? I was too young when it closed to remember tbh
