Thanks for the review, Anthony, as always. And you finally verbalized what I haven’t been able to put my finger on for why so much of low level of quality in Legends for a long time now just doesn’t make sense. You nailed it. Company allegedly designing, producing and selling adult collectors items which overall have a very toyish, targeted-for-children level of quality. Nonsensical rubbish. So I watched your review last week when you posted bc I was curious about this guy but not enough to spend $75 or whatever. I got mine from Shop Disney for $26 and he just came today. Ngl, it’s not as bad I was expecting (at least for $26). I liked the figure the first time around so the sculpt is great and he pops on the shelf. It’s just the lack of the wings and other accessories that really suck. Little thing I noticed tho is that I was able to pop the forearm off at the top of the glove with pretty little force and no heat, plus the figure was freezing cold from sitting on the porch for an hour. Then I was able to pop off the hand too and reassemble the whole forearm with the shield on it to get it past that fin. I highly doubt Hasbro was thoughtful enough to design it that way, but if you wanted a more secure way to attach the shield so it doesn’t fall off and hit another figure on the shelf, it works great👍🏻 great review man, and thanks for the heads up he was going on sale
Wait, $45 is the SALE price?! When I clicked the link I thought that the sale was over, because it didn't have a sale tag. $70 was the original price! What the hell! Most* Figmas and S.H.Figuarts are around that price range! Including Captain America from both brands!
Lol I have no idea who this character is but I just had to tune in from his hilarious cameo from the swamp thing review video. Smh it does really look like a kid's toy too
The thing is, I’ve been waiting for a marvel legends super adapted figure for years so much so that I was going to get one of those 12 inch tall, marvel icons, Captain America figures from the toy business days and customize it into the super adaptoid And it really disappoints me that after all the waiting, this is what we get, but I could actually see this figure being worth the original price point if it came with a whole bunch of interchangeable body parts, and accessories. Like yes the super had Captain America shield and Thor’s hammer, but I also recall it having Hawkeyes bow and arrow and wings like wasp and Iron Man’s gauntlets
1:55 I've always had the philosophy that Marvel Legends are intended to be adult collectibles, but everything about them is so cheapy and lackluster that I can't take them seriously as adult products. Hasbro's ML aren't even fun as kid's toys though, I was bored as a kid trying to play with these lol
Nah, this has never been on my radar. I don't like that they used that old 12 inch scale Cap figure as the body. It felt phoned in since the moment they revealed it.
I get that reuse happens and I don't mind. I don't even mind off model changes and "modernizations". But I remember this being at TRU for $40. Sure not every company can be McFarlane and not be maximizing profit margins, but tooling a good sculpt costs just as much money as a bad sculpt.
@@maddrop That price is for that specific wave only for some reason. They already said that price won't affect the rest of the figures, we'll see if that's true though.
Q of the Day: I’m a big old school Avengers fan, and this was still an easy pass for me. This doesn’t look like any version of the Super Adaptoid that I remember. They can put it on sale for $4.99 with a complementary $10 Amazon gift card with purchase, and I still don’t want it taking up space in my collection.
I got him around half off, so it isn't that bad. The shield seriously pissed me off. Need to get around to modifying the shield straps and printing/painting some wings for him. It is not a good figure.
I did find a work-around. If you pop off the left fist and gently bend the glove fin, you can squeeze the larger shield strap over it and into his forearm. Then push the wrist through the smaller shield strap and plug the fist back in. It helps to warm up the fin in hot water first.
Got the figure in hand. Glad I waited for the price drop. I'm pretty happy with it EXCEPT for the fact that the shield doesn't properly fit on the arm. Not even close. Not only is there no gripping hand but the fin on the forearm gets in the way.... :(
100% agree. Anthony seemed to appreciate the texture quality for what it was, rather than judging it as a terrible match for what it is now. Sad thing is, Hasbro probably sees this as checking classic SA off their to-do list, despite the over modern base it was built on...
When your defense for an Overly Priced Action Figure being bad is that it doesn't need to pose, that's how you know the person saying this is an actual idiot.
I was only familiar with his appearance in Two in One 75 as a kid , so this looks nothing like the one I remember who was more a straight mash up of Iron Man and Vision , with hints of Cap .
Marvel legends, only got into collecting last year and it blows my mind how much people are willing to pay for those then complain about companies like jada toys. Biggest toy company in the world makes bootleg quality figures
unfortunately, he is kind of a major avengers villain and i would consider it an essential marvel character. also unfortunately, this is the only superadaptoid figure ever made and probably the only figure we will ever get from anybody.
I never cared for this character, never knew of it until this figure was announced, all I remember is thinking it was an ugly figure, and I couldn't believe it was an actual character, but I didn't care enough to look up anything. With the pictures you showed I'm like.. DAMN.. they didn't even try AT ALL. I'm done with Marvel Legends, this is the year when I'm DONE.
Would it be fair to say adding texture to a figure in production is free? Hasbro uses digital sculpting, and I'd assume adding texture is more like a filter rather than carved details into the sculpt.
It's certainly easier than traditional sculpting. It takes some know-how and effort but it's much easier than doing it by hand. Not free. Not very expensive though.
I got this on sale from pulse and was very disappointed with the figure. I had low expectations going into it and the figure still failed to meet them.
Objectively - it's disappointing for all the reasons mentioned in the video (proportions, some sculpt issues, no wings etc.). Subjectively - I'm pretty happy to get (on a good sale of course) an oversized silver age Super Adaptoid to battle the Avengers. I never expected Hasbro to make this figure, and I am aware buying this makes me part of the problem I'm sure, but I have a big soft spot for this guy.
The "it's just a toy for kids" is an argument like "Star Wars is for kids!" No, kids can and do enjoy action figures or movies but they're not the target and they don't necessarily appreciate nuance. Many Legends figure waves are filled out with nuanced, deep-cuts like Super Adaptoid here... "that obscure Iron Man/Cap/whatever villain from that one run of comics in the early 90's" isn't targeting current kids. Hasbro has toys targeting current kids and those aren't selling well either.
@@AnthonysCustoms I believe Bobby Val who created the Valaverse line of action figures created this sculpt and Hasbro after letting him go just reused the mold…never giving him any credit for it.
Even half off Super Apadtiod is overpriced.... Should have come with a 6 inch figure of himself as well for that price... Anthony how do you feel about the $40 price tag for the new Mcfarlane figures?
I was always intrigued by the Super Adaptoid. Not enouth to buy this. If the eye mask is supposed to represent Hawkeye...then where's the bow and quiver? Not sure what the rest of the head is meant to be a copy of. Even that reduced price is too steep. No detail on the new parts, ceappy proportions and articulation, with scant accesories.
I don't think he's interested in Joes. Which is a shame, always calling Hasbro out for making bad products while ignoring the best thing they've made in years, maybe ever.
This is 90% the old Marvel Legends Icons 12” Captain America figure. So yep. A kids toy. The only new parts are the head. The forearm glove parts, and the cuffs on the boots. So of course all the new stuff is what drives the proportions all wonky. I’m pretty sure the base body is the one Bobby Vala made back when he still worked at Hasbro.
I got this thing for $35 on Black Friday and I suppose it was worth that price but it’s definitely not the character it should be. It’s like a bad custom.
This is easily the biggest cash grab by Hasbro outside of selling folk a blank body with a new head. $70 is import figure money territory without the paint, QC or accessories to justify the price.
Man legemds are ovepriced happy meal toys at this point, articulation paint and detail are outdated, if you wamt a collector marvel line at an affordable price ill say go select, articulation is sufficient, and they make it up in accesories, the only problem i cam see is that scale is not as good as it could be, but lately all their figures sacle pretty nice with eacj other
I wouldn't buy this for any price because it isn't anywhere close to any version of the character. It is the laziest re-use I've ever seen and the initial price is insulting.
That thing is absolutely hideous. Its only purpose can be to help reach or push something from 12 or less inches away. If I found someone’s underwear on my floor that I didn’t invite to be there , I’d use this figure to pick them up off the floor. Thank you for the review.
What do you mean, these aren't for kids? My four-year-old heard SUPER-ADAPTOID was coming in ML scale and got so excited that he pre-ordered it online with his own $70! Jokes aside, I love this Cap in 1/6 scale and think it's hilarious that they remade him into this. Even funnier, as you pointed out, all the new parts are the worst parts. Bravo Hasbro! They had the shield-strap holding hand, too, already made, just were too cheap to include it.
This figure was my breaking point. A bad-looking figure made of recycled parts, inaccurate, insultingly-priced, and a complete nobody to most people. I haven't bought a ML figure since this was shown off, and I don't even collect 12".
Yes! For the price and the fact I love this character, I picked him up lol. Love your reviews. If a better one comes out later, I will trade this one out
He’s missing so much it’s trash and they should be ashamed of themselves I wanted a Super-Adaptiod so bad no Hawkeye bow, no Wasp wings ,no vision cape, no iron man gauntlet’s, they could have given him Captain Marvels Nega bands, extra hands with Black panthers claws you are so right it’s just lazy.
The only thing this rotten company makes that I’ll buy is their occasional Hulk, still a crime we haven’t gotten a Joe Bennett-style Hulk or a true Maestro
Most marvel legends look like bad customs these days. Its like they rumaged through an old toybox and just said "close enough". They have just quit trying to make plastic colors match too.
Honestly I still have no interest in buying this. And this is coming from someone who bought that What If Howard the Duck because it was at a discount on Amazon.
Im so done with hasbro and their lazy half assed figures with expensive pricing. If these were $20 itd make sense but they are consistently inconsistent!
I don't mean to defend hasbro but marvel legends is not a collectible line, you just need to see the box, they are labeled for children older than 4 years. I like your reviews and understand your point but sometimes instead of an objective review looks like a personal complaint, hasbro is loosing money and proof of that is the price hike, the low quality and most recent with the licensing to mcfarlane. I just buy the legends that I like and feel deserve been acquired, that's why I watch your reviews, in other hand there are many versions of adaptoid and not all have wings. Thanks for the great work with your videos which help a lot of us in taking better decisions.
I mean... Yes, it's true that the only reason they make these characters is because adults buy them, but that doesn't change the fact that the overall line of Marvel Legends is for kids. This green abomination is the consequence* of adults buying kids figures, as in, y'all buying kid figures led to this, instead of this leading to adults buying Marvel Legends. If y'all want adult quality you go to Amazing Yamaguchi, or Bandai, or Max Factory.
No, you're delusional, "kids toy" is only an excuse for bad quality. All their lines, ML, Black Series, Lightning Collections, GI Joe are aimed to adult collectors. Same as other brand's figures of similar price like Jada's SF, Game Dimensions Tekken, or even McFarlane which one is also mostly bad.
@@magicmirror8627 - These things might be lacking in engineering and details, but they are sturdy and usually* cheap, which is what they need to be in order to appeal to their demographic. It is* true that this specific character wasn't made because of kids, but again, that's just a consequence of y'all buying from brands you should've left behind. Figmas and Bandai are* toys for grown-ups, they have better articulation and details, but* they're more fragile and expensive, meaning that they'd be shitty as a kids toy. Listen! @@CattyMintgum 😂
" its very loose " ..what ive said many times .
Lack of accessories, lack of paint, over priced, etc., this guy exemplifies everything that is wrong with modern Marvel Legends.
Why is this thing £80 on Hasbro pulse?
Because will pay a lot for very little
no hand to hold the shield? they just don't care...
Wow, and $70?! No😅
Man legemds are ovepriced happy meal toys at this point, articulation paint and detail are outdated, if you wamt a collector marvel line at an affordable price ill say go select, articulation is sufficient, and they make it up in accesories, the only problem i cam see is that scale is not as good as it could be, but lately all their figures sacle pretty nice with eacj other
1 yr later for 20 bucks at Ollie's 🤷🏿♂️... I got 2
Hasbro has no shame. And with all the fanboys who defend them, I doubt they’ll ever do better products🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
@@Vintage-Bob indeed, because there’s an army of Hasbro fanboys out there who defend the company at a moment’s notice!🤣😂🤣😂
@@tchallaomoro8281 And a handful of UA-camr shills who NEVER criticize Hasbro.
If they wanted to reuse this mold they could have used the ameridroid
I wouldn't buy this for any price because it isn't anywhere close to any version of the character. It is the laziest re-use I've ever seen and the initial price is insulting.
fam i thought that piccolo when i saw the thumbnail
pop off the chest disk!
All of Hasbro's recent troubles are entirely earned, and overpriced crap like this is why.
That thing is absolutely hideous. Its only purpose can be to help reach or push something from 12 or less inches away. If I found someone’s underwear on my floor that I didn’t invite to be there , I’d use this figure to pick them up off the floor. Thank you for the review.
I got it for like 25 on pulse lol 😆 ill take it for that
Maybe finally made for a 4 year old.
Meh in all aspects, not even wings.
at least give it a repulsor hand and a bow.
I feel like he has no wrists, it looks like he just goes from forearm right into hand. And his arms look super stubby because of it
That's Bobby Vala's specialty, some of the time
They could give this for free and I’d still say nope.
$45 for that figure is better but is still not good.
hate it but fuck they arent gonna make another one super adaptoid my favorite goon villian all the powers of the avengers 😢
Ollies have him for $20
This figure was my breaking point. A bad-looking figure made of recycled parts, inaccurate, insultingly-priced, and a complete nobody to most people. I haven't bought a ML figure since this was shown off, and I don't even collect 12".
Nope. Totally passed on it. Not even for the sale price which can buy a decent ML 2-pack or other figures instead.
First glance: Looks okay, I guess
Learning the actual price Hasbro slapped on it: What a piece of shit
I would pay 24.99 lol
If you don't like hasbro as you said "hasbro sucks" DONT BUY THE FIGURES
The only thing this rotten company makes that I’ll buy is their occasional Hulk, still a crime we haven’t gotten a Joe Bennett-style Hulk or a true Maestro
Most marvel legends look like bad customs these days. Its like they rumaged through an old toybox and just said "close enough". They have just quit trying to make plastic colors match too.
Scambogery 💯
Honestly I still have no interest in buying this. And this is coming from someone who bought that What If Howard the Duck because it was at a discount on Amazon.
Im so done with hasbro and their lazy half assed figures with expensive pricing. If these were $20 itd make sense but they are consistently inconsistent!
I really like the way you trash the company Anthony! Shame on you Hasbro!!!
👍
You're wrong. It's a collector line 100%
@@magicmirror8627more like your delusional 😂
@@magicmirror8627 - These things might be lacking in engineering and details, but they are sturdy and usually* cheap, which is what they need to be in order to appeal to their demographic.
It is* true that this specific character wasn't made because of kids, but again, that's just a consequence of y'all buying from brands you should've left behind.
Figmas and Bandai are* toys for grown-ups, they have better articulation and details, but* they're more fragile and expensive, meaning that they'd be shitty as a kids toy.
Listen! I'm a grown-ass man, I just bought the latest Barbie Jeep, uh... Couldn't even fit inside it! Hello, Fisher Price! WTF!!!
@@julianx2rl Stop making excuses for hasbro. Even hasbro itself calls Marvel Legends "action figures", not toys. There are different kinds of adult collectibles of different price and quality. Figma, Mafex, Storm and so on are fust more premium collectibles of better quality, but that doesn't justify poor quality of hasbro's ML, because Neca or Jada gives million times better figures for the same or even lower cost.
@@magicmirror8627 - I'm not making excuses, I'm just telling you to stop* buying kids toys!
Get a Figma, or an S.H.Figuarts, dish out some actual grown up money to get the quality you want dammit!
As for Neca, their articulation is sheith! Those might as well be statues! Jada is really cool though, they're doing exactly* what Figma did back in the day (2008).
What the f*ck is even that? Seriously.
what a joke
Another garbage figure by Hasblow.
