  • This year for my birthday season I took a trip up though my home state of Wisconsin to see 2 fellow laser and lighting enthusiast and my aunt Jean, the electrician who gave me broken flashlights and started off my interests in light at a very young age. In this video you will see a whole bunch of interesting gadgets, lights, Lasers, and experiments. In addition there is a bunch of casual discussion, humor, knowledge, and wholesome moments shared with some incredible people!
    Thanks to those in the video for extending excellent hospitality and being a part of one of, if not the best birthday I have had!..
    Crap I'm old.

    Cool videos. 13:00 that's the "real" color. It's hard for him to focus on it for the same reasons blue LEDs appear weird - very few cones in the retina able to detect this wavelength, low spatial resolution. I think your finger is white because YOU are fluorescing! I will never understand the black magic of putting magnets along the side of a HeNe tube to suppress the IR lines.... All those rocks you found are some variant of biogenic calcite, typically Mn 2+ is the fluorescence / phosphorescence activator species. Can you put links to the other guy's channels in the description? If you are coming to Western NY for some reason in the future lmk and I'll give you a tour of the 60 terawatt OMEGA and 2 petawatt OMEGA EP lasers.

    Nice ambience ! It is great that you brought up the subject of rock test @01:33:00 because I have an idea in this domain and I want your opinion. The principle is to block completely the light on the camera lens then generate a pulse of light then cover the light source then immediately uncover the camera lens. Repeat this sequence rapidly . This can be done with a conveniently designed disk which rotates rapidly in front of the couple : camera lens + light source. With this setup the camera will not be dazzled with all the light and it will see only the fluorescent part. If this idea is not clear let me know and I will make an illustration. I have this idea a long time ago and I feel that it would be an interesting tool to see not only the fluorescence of rocks but also the reaction to light of any object.

    • @Zenodilodon
      @Zenodilodon  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Yes you could do this but you may need a global shutter for best effect. You could also use the LCD panels from an auto darkening welding helmet too. For light that is past 370nm you can place a vis block, UV pass filter which will knock out the unwanted visible secondary output bands.
      Oh hey, I bet you could hack a welding helmet with various flashing UV lights and get a cool UV viewing wearable.

    Cool video and happy late birthday man! I'm new to your channel and came here from JoinTheTechnicians. I was wondering if you could answer some questions on the High Voltage Wand you made. I am trying to build one myself and am having trouble tracing down the correct fast diodes and choke to use. I've seen that a 50uH choke is good for larger ZVS drivers but your inductor looks smaller on the video and of course I would like everything to be as compact as possible. The diode I currently have chosen is an 8A 40V SBD fast switch based on the peak tank voltage, but I am suspecting this can be sized down too in current specs.
    Thanks for any help!

    • @Zenodilodon
      @Zenodilodon  2 роки тому

      I wasn't the main developer of the wand, that was more so my friend. We had to often wind the inductor choke and transformers ourselves. This can get extremely tricky to optimize. I generally go for something like the inductors from multi-phase DC-DC converters on motherboards and have good luck. Not having an inductance meter I can't measure those :/
      You selected diodes with a pretty high current rating, this is surprising as they are more or less just used for signal switching in a ZVS.
      I did a video on ZVS configurations and testing what changes what, that is on my YT, it's 3 hours of semi-helpful nonsense but it's the extent of my experience on the matter if I may be honest. There is another circuit that JP my friend developed and it's given us better performance overall. If you contact me through email I will send over that schema. I wish I could help more, it's not exactly my specialty of a subject though.
      Let me know if there is anything else I could possibly help nail down, you can also contact JP on his new page Exotic Propulsion

      @ginnis_14 2 роки тому

      @@Zenodilodon I may or may not wind my own. It depends on the inductance needed. If it needs like 50uH I wont be able to get that out of winding my own using the cores I have that are small enough and wire large enough for primary circuit currents. Looking at the circuit schematic again I was misunderstanding it. I was under the impression that the fast switching diodes were for the primary circuit, but now I see it just deals with the signal side. I will shoot you an email.

    • @Zenodilodon
      @Zenodilodon  2 роки тому

      Yup, there are quad color CCDs but they are much rarer.Yellow does exist, it's composition colors like pink or brown which don't exist in a single band alone.
      The crystals are ND:YAG/ND:YVO4 and a second harmonic crystal which can be KTP, LBO, etc.
      The crystals need to be properly coated, pumped, aligned, and for best results temp stabilized.
