Mr. Haynes, you are simply amazing. I've watched a bunch of your videos and have become a fan. As a jazz keyboardist who plays the pads too, I have deep respect for what you are doing. Props!
Fingers please put together a tutorial "warm ups and practices" you have some crazy rolls going on there it had to take a while.. please share more. great video!!!
He was sick with the Alesis HR-16. He was sick with Korg NanoPad+Toon Track. My guess is that he could tap on his kitchen's countertop and still sound sick. No gear can replace musicianship and skill. Haynes sounds amazing with or without Maschine.
My absolute favorite!!! I Just trip when I hear these sounds from the Native Instruments Maschine. Love it! David does a masterful job demo'ing it! He's a monster!!! Much Respect, D. -educapro
I was going to buy one of these things until I saw this video and the phrase DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME THIS MAN IS A PROFESSIONAL rang out in my head. It looks like you need to be a genius to use the darn thing.
fantabulous! just ordered mine yesterday, been wanting one for 3 years. also got a dmx p6 just cause it was on sale, i have no clue what ill be doing but videos like this pump my motivation. i got fast fingers from paintball, hope it helps me be even half as good as you one day.
Great job, this is completely taking it to another level. Imagine (or maybe already real) that this is a live drummer in a gig?? Props my friend, just picked one up!
As Wayne Shorter once said in an interview: With all great artists the technique is hidden. This certainly applies to you David. The way you know your dynamics, the way you make it glue together. Looking closer on the vid doesn't help. Sleight of hand. As one of your fans here said - I want his mappings:-)
Yep a real drummer indeed. I have seen him in action and been on the stage performing with him while he was playing a real set. David is the real deal.
Excellent job! I think you deserve to add an applause sample on one of the pads and have a friend hit it at the end! Out of necessity I've been a keyboard drummer as well. It's like being a 10 armed drummer!
Really awesome stuff... You're my frumming idol (fingers drumming)!!! Watching any of your videos really motivates me to practice more. I like how you are versatile with the pad assignments - you don't really care much how the sounds are placed. I started with MPC, so my preference is with the MPC pad assignment (kick on the second left bottom row, snare over the kick, etc.) But recently I have been trying to get used to the Maschine layout. Anyway, can't wait to see more vids from you!
Hey David, You're amazing! I have "discovered" you something like 4 years ago and i think you're the best finger drummer out there for a looong time to come! I'd like to ask you, do you think you'll ever make a finger drumming tutorial starting from beginner level and up to more advanced levels? That would be great to be able to learn from you such a thing. I am now learning on my own with the Korg Nano Pads and I always keep in mind your advice to "always practice with a metronome". ;-)
Wow! Excellent playing and superb sounds! I'd be incredibly greatful if you could send me somekind of download link or a guide or whatever on how you got these sounds! Maschine drum sounds are nice, yes, but this is great. Peace!
wow.... alot more portable than deen castronovos giant kit that used to cramp me on the van on road trips!.. awesome ,,,,, saw a namm video with victor wooten and steve bailey...
@adamooxx the maschine is a great tool, I bought one and straight out of the box I can play a set of bongos (included in the kit) and you can tell that a soft hit sounds real, and a hard hit sounds real! more than just volumes.. they do something in the programming, its unreal.. some samples only control the volume tho depends on the drum kit... tons to choose from
people people, this is a piece of dj and electronic music gear, used by DJs and electronic musicians...it also plays more, far more than drums, and has all kinds of fx built in. He's only demonstrating one aspect. Look at some of the official Native Instruments Maschine videos. You'll get it. I totally saw a dj performing with 2 maschine setups and a midi keyboard on the side on here once...
You'd have to be - at least in terms of knowing the theory. I've listened to music with 'challenging' drums my whole life, play guitar, bass, sing, and program, and now I can play pads - not like Dave but good enough for metal/doom/rock/blues demos - and my biggest struggle is with how to use a high hat to create motion and tension, and other things 'real' drummers know. It's not like Dave just jumped on an Akai and 'any idiot' could do it. Mad props, Dave, mad props...
Mr. Haynes, you are simply amazing. I've watched a bunch of your videos and have become a fan. As a jazz keyboardist who plays the pads too, I have deep respect for what you are doing. Props!
Doc!I apologize that i'm just seeing this message from you 7 YEARS AGO :( my bad!! keep doing your thing sir!!!:)))
HOW DOES THIS NOT HAVE OVER 1 MILLION VIEWS YET
0 Pip I 9 pup 9o ip I I I open. oil
because of all the other videos of his amazingness;P
Because many don't except Midi drums!
To simply say drum machines have no soul is assinine. He's proving it right now. Art is art. Music is music. Let your souls delve in the sounds.
NI customer support- "Thank you for calling NI, how may I help you?"
David Haynes- "uhhh the pads on my Maschine are smoking...."
This should be the BEST Maschine demo there is. On and off the Internet.
Fingers please put together a tutorial "warm ups and practices" you have some crazy rolls going on there it had to take a while.. please share more. great video!!!
THAT WAS A MASTER CLASS...THANKS DAVID!!!!
how could you possibly dislike this
This is what I was looking for! So hard to find non-hip hop finger drumming examples. Thank you!
wow those dynamics are incredible, great skill! I come back to this video still to this day
Pretty bloody impressive! And that's British understatement in case anyone was wondering. This vid has almost sold me on getting a Maschine.
He was sick with the Alesis HR-16. He was sick with Korg NanoPad+Toon Track. My guess is that he could tap on his kitchen's countertop and still sound sick. No gear can replace musicianship and skill. Haynes sounds amazing with or without Maschine.
The amount of influences on display here, Jazz, HipHop, Soul, Funk, Rock etc! Really nice to see somebody take it this seriously and respectfully!
My absolute favorite!!! I Just trip when I hear these sounds from the Native Instruments Maschine. Love it! David does a masterful job demo'ing it! He's a monster!!!
Much Respect, D.

Thanks, but the sounds are from Superior Drummer 2, not from N.I.
Mr Fingers never fails to put a smile on my face. Mad skills man!
Hey there David you are killing it on these machines. I hadn't seen you in action since the Wright Thing in Heidelberg. Keep on keeping on bro.

I was going to buy one of these things until I saw this video and the phrase DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME THIS MAN IS A PROFESSIONAL rang out in my head. It looks like you need to be a genius to use the darn thing.

As Wayne Shorter once said in an interview: With all great artists the technique is hidden. This certainly applies to you David.

That's amazing.. you have it bro.
Who needs a Drummer with this guy around lol! Sick man and sick fingers.
Besides pads, he's also a 'real' drummer :)
Holy shit! Everything superb. Particularly amazed about the dynamics dude!
damn crazy dynamics....loving the ghost notes. you da man!
Yep a real drummer indeed. I have seen him in action and been on the stage performing with him while he was playing a real set. David is the real deal.
I can't understand what there is to dislike about it. The only reason I can see for someone putting a thumbs-down is that they are jealous.
My god this ridiculously good! That's talent alright 😳😳
I am going to spend the next two years practicing to play like this. Awesome!
how'd it go
@@wrrwvv yeah didn't happen. Still got the original Maschine hardware unit though and do use it occasionally! Just nowhere near this level.
@DHaynesakafingerrs That sounds awesome! When will that be out?!??!?
Excellent job! I think you deserve to add an applause sample on one of the pads and have a friend hit it at the end! Out of necessity I've been a keyboard drummer as well. It's like being a 10 armed drummer!
