  • Directed by John Sturges in 1967, this much darker film deals with the aftermath of the 0.K. Corral gunfight, a subject Sturges had previously visited in 1957,s ''Gunfight at the O.K. Corral''. James Garner turns in a fine performance as Wyatt Earp with strong support from Jason Robards as the tubercular Doc Holliday. The ever reliable Robert Ryan is at his sneering best as protagonist Ike Clanton. The movie really benefits from Lucien Ballard,s camerawork and a sublime music score from Jerry Goldsmith.

One dislike and only fifty one likes. My god it takes a lot to please some people. A fine example of a good western made great by a fabulous soundtrack by Goldsmith. it brings a tear to my eyes when i think we will never see Jim Garner again. May he rest in peace. Thanks Valdez. 12 out of 10.

This one of the best Goldsmith's scores yet maybe the most underrated. I personally enjoy this earlier work than his more famous stuff. And I prefer him for John Williams since Goldsmith had certain grit in his compositions. Though Williams' early scores are also very good.

Great score to a great film - the two don't often go together!

A very good film. I think I have seen all of the "ok Corrall" films and this is the best I think. James Garner was a better actor than many people credited...very good in "Duel at Diablo". Neal Hefti's score for that was pretty good too though I can't recall him scoring any other westerns.

Of all the actors who played Earp
    Garner was the coolest looking

So cool that he played Earp again in ''Sunset'', RIP James Garner.

I wish I could download the full movie. In all my years here on Earth I thought I'd seen every GOOD Western so cannot IMAGINE how I missed this one. I saw it on a local station last night & was pleased to be able to see it FREE. Can't afford cable or to pay at any of the websites not to mention the great chances of having my little bit of income compromised by using my bank information if the site is bogus. Only Tombstone is as good but Jason Robards is a much better Doc Holiday than Val Kilmer

Hi Brian, I loved listening to this one. Jerry Goldsmith is one of my favorite composers. Another new movie to add to my list of never before seen. I am a huge fan of the original "Gunfight at OK Corral" from 1957. Sounds worth checking out. Thank for posting. From one western fan to another. Best regards, Norm from USA

Yay! You opened with the good part of the theme! I knuckle roll coins to this theme as a party joke. It refers to how I grew a full mustache as part of a dare my senior year and earned the nickname Doc Holiday. As a result I learned how to coin roll to screw with my friends.

Too much use of the color black in what they were wearing, bunch of Puritanical types.
