Yes indeed! Very interesting point! Musically Western and Southern are not so different since there are same styles, genres and instruments associated to both The West and The South. These are often used in film music in order to give an impression of the setting etc.

Great selection and mix of the incomparable maestro, I had the pleasure of seeing perform twice live.
They used 1967's The Flim-Flam Man Music in a 1972 western called The Culpepper Cattle Company so it does fit into western movie music.
