We need to talk, my system is new and I need it to look like you have executed, way to go that looks great, please suggest how I improve my panoptix and 1223, I’m thinking the difference may be in my transducer options that came with my gps1223xsv
Got a questions. I'm looking at the Garmin GPSMAP 1243xsv Touch-Screen Fish Finder/Chartplotter and the Garmin GPSMAP 1242xsv GPS Chartplotter/Sonar Combo without Transducer. Which one you recommend. I'm just using it for livescope but the fine details is a must for me and I don't mind spending a little extra. Please help. Thank you
I have the vision card. I downloaded my area on the active captain app. Then sinked it to my garmin 943xsv and still don't have my relief shading. I even have the card in the 1st SD slot and active captain in my second slot. I'm so disappointed on how difficult this is compared to my simrad.
disappointing>> how often do they update the maps? I just bought garmin g3 ultra west lakes>>> On my local Texas man made reservoir lake , Lake Lewisville, the chart showed an area as 8 - 10 ft when the reality is that it is between 2 and 3 feet. Not just a small spot but likely the better part of an acre! I am glad the lake level was not any lower or I may have had a serious impact. Yes I did use the lake level feature and the lake today is down less than 2 feet but I entered 2 feet so it should have been a bit higher than the map indicated BUT 6 feet off??? Another issue is the high definition relief is almost featureless on a man made lake and when you zoom in it is actually pixelated with almost no real detail. It is better than the included g3 map but not by much. Very little detail on features an/or even possible hazards. Don't expect to see a pile of downed trees or any features around the size of even a very big tree. Basic features like drop offs and contours do display as long as you are zoomed pretty far out but with the scale at anything 100 ft map measure or less, I have not seen anything I can say would be helpful but maybe as I use it I will find some beneficial areas but today mid lake it was pretty useless and showed absolutely no structure. Even a huge small rise in 43 ft which goes to 16 ft in a sharp cone is barely even indicated. Basically if you are spending $200 for the upgrade you can expect dynamic lake levels and only slightly more detail. Once again finding an area where the map was dangerously off was shocking. I think I may post a video myself and show what you really are getting on a lake.
Thoughts on the best transducer for the 1243xsv? Fishing marine coastal. 250’ or less. A lot of bottom, wreck and reef fishing too. Gt52, 54, 56? I don’t want to overkill if I don’t need it. Thanks!
@@cwhite3311 been talking with a popular marine electonics co. They think that the 56 will be better definition than the 51 unless I’m fishing very deep. For 250 and less they think better def with the UHD 56 than higher wattage 51.
Hey thank you for the great video I Have question please Which series you think better the 1243xsv or 8610xsv . I ended to get the 8610xsv just because the size I really wanted the 1243xsv but no space on dashboard, when I changed it to the 86xx I’ve told it’s better chart plotter I got it with the GT56UHD
I recommend in the following order based on your budget and dash space. 1. Maximize number of screens. (Two 9" is better than one 12"). 2. Maximize screen size. 3. Maximize resolution. Of course need to consider the overall networked system and required features as well. The 86xx series is the premium unit and offers the most features and best screen resolution. That said if I was only running one transducer and didn't need the LVS12 or HDMI connections, I'd suggest getting two 943xsv units and network them together if you have dash space.
I have the Garmin 1222 XSV w/o transducer for LS. I want to replace my helix 10 SI mega in the console. What Garmin unit and transducer do you recommend to network with my 1222? I want Garmin for the 17,000 maps.
Also. If you want to get the Panoptix/live vu transducer can you use it with the 1243 unit and the other transducer that has the regular chirp/side/downvu? I read this unit only has one transducer port? Thanks.
Great info. I have a question. I’m trying to pick a new setup. I want two screens. Radar and a new trolling motor if I can swing it. I seen a deal on the 1242 xsv plus. Maybe run that with a 943xsv and let the 943 take the lead. Gt56 transducer. Mostly 110 feet and under with an occasional run out to 200 feet. Would just like your thoughts. Thanks.
The 1242xsv is a great unit but it looks very different from the 943 or 1243 so if mounting them next to each other flush mounted it might not be a clean look. The other thing to consider is which frequency would you like to run for downvu/sidevu. The 1242xsv will not do UHD but the 943xsv and 1243xsv will. So if planning to use a GT56 or gt54 ducer you'll need a newer unit but the older units will handle pretty much anything else.
@@cwhite3311 Thanks. I ended up with a 1243 xsv and a 743 xsv. A gt56 transducer. The boat already has an airmar 744 thru hull. So I’ll have both of those hooked up. 👍🏼
I ordered a new boat and ordered it this the 1243xsv. The boat has a through hull transducer and I bought the GT56 so I can use the side view and the down view. Can they both be incorporated into the one unit and use them individually when needed?
This unit only has one transducer port. If the boat is pre-installer with a thru hull it might be an airmar B150 which is a 300w med chirp tilted element ducer. The GT56 will be better. Have the installer leave the old ducer cable installer so it could be used as a backup later. If you choose to install a second screen later that ducer could be plugged into the new screen and shared across the network
