I’m in the midst of reading Dear Hugo now and absolutely loving it! I’m so happy to have found all these wonderful authors from this era and thankful that many have been brought back. Thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions and reviews. I’ve got a nice list of enjoyable reading material from your videos. I’ve read a number of these books now and thoroughly enjoyed them. Although it does make me wish I lived in a small village back in the day.
Hi lil We like a lot of the same books , especially Agatha Christie. So I thought I’d tell you about one of my most favourite books ever . It’s a book about letters that a father and daughter wrote to each other while she was at boarding school. The relationship between father and daughter is so delightful, funny and at times a little emotional. I’ve read and reread this book a few times . I’m almost sure you’d enjoy it
Lil... you are the little devil on my shoulder (angel really ❤) tempting me with yet more books 🤣🤣🤣 Can't wait to read all of these! Reading Elizabeth Von Arnim's The Enchanted April at the minute, and also The Darling Buds of May. Both amazing. X
I really loved Dear Hugo. I thought Sara's voice was so delightful, and I love the points you make about it. I have read a lot of D.E. Stevenson's novels, but never The Fair Miss Fortune! I'm so glad you loved it. The other D.E. Stevensons that I have loved most of the ones DSP has just republished have been Five Windows and Green Money. Green Money was so funny!
Just watched all 6 of your Furrowed Middlebrow videos again and wrote down all the 4 and 5 stars recommendations 😀 Started with Company in the Evening and loving it so far.
Hi Lil, Thank you so much for introducing some more of FMB. I really enjoy Molly ClaveringAnd have red near neighbors a few months ago and loved it. Somehow I’ve been missing your videos. I’ve been traveling with my daughter the last month. We went to Paris and Provence. It was very beautiful and the food was amazing but I’m struggling with Severe Jetlag for the last two weeks. I guess 10 travel zones will do it. And being old lol. I want to read all three of the books you presented. Aloha and hugs
Would you consider reading “Dear Lumpy” by roger mortimer and Louise Mortimer. Its a father , daughter book of letters that they wrote to each other when Louise went to boarding school. They are very funny and quite moving at times at the fabulous relationship they have for each other.
I feel the exact same way about Barbara Pym! I know others rave about her but I reckon she’s a 3 1/2 for me - albeit, I will enjoy every page just about! And look forward to the next one. So that’s a success, yes? I’m perfectly content with plain old enjoyment. I suppose I feel that way about the mapp and Lucia books too- As you say, not blown right out of the water but thoroughly entertained. Thanks for a great video! I want to read all three.
I think I am now going to look these up 🙂 I've got Audible but there's nothing like a real book in your hands!! Also they look I could easily manage as I can find reading some books difficult due to my dyslexia!! Thanks for the recommendations!!xx
I really find it interesting to read books about the reality of the war and peoples day to day life . I think some of the Poirots touch on the lasting tragedy of war and how it made people forever fearful and changed.
I look forward to your middlebrow book reviews so much. I will definitely get Miss Fair Fortune now. I love a light vintage romance too, especially if it is by DES. I am so excited for Dean Street's Susan Scarlett release coming in August! There should be a lot of light vintage romance in the drop. Yippeee!
Mills and Boon filled a niche in reading. Frankly, I prefer the older “Harlequin” books. Thanks for your recommendations. I recommend D E Stevenson’s DIARY OF A PROVINCIAL LADY. It’s an absolute delight. Best Wishes from the USA 🇺🇸

I read my first Molly Clavering book recently too, Because of Sam, for the 1954 Club challenge. Oh gosh, it was delightful. Off to buy Dear Hugo...
Thank You So Much For This Review.
I Appreciate It So Much!
Grief tricks us. It is Cruel. So many had to endure it with a placid grin.

I saw Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie in these editions, and it makes me want to collect them all.
