I’ve just always had a bad impression of Krantz books. Can’t remember if I read part of one, or just knew what they were like. You should give some of the Heyer Regency romances a try. (I know I’ve mentioned here before, but haven’t ever heard you review them or say if you just didn’t like them.) I liked them better than what I read of her mysteries. I started reading her last year. Of the ones I have read, The Reluctant Widow, The Toll Gate and Cotillion were easiest to get into due to not as much detail related to Regency clothing and carriages etc. But I know you like fashion, so you might enjoy that. Frederica is my favorite so far, and it has a lot of that detail. I feel like each book takes me about 50 pages or so to acclimate back into the language etc. But they are such funny and enjoyable reads with a nice sweet romance in each one. I love the humor, great writing and the fact that the story is the major part of it. The story and the relationship develops throughout and then just has the lovely ending. The Nonesuch was my first one and I really struggled for awhile and then got into the story and humor and have read one every month or two since. If you read any, I would love to hear what you think of them and if you have a favorite. And just brought up again, as most of the ones you read today sounded very underwhelming from what you said.

Whoa! Say it like it is, Lil! Sitting here having my morning porridge and expecting lovely sweet Lil instead got Indignant Lil. Love your honesty ❤

I love your honest book reviews, I did have a chuckle when you said not to touch them with a barge pole!! I kept seeing The Christmas Wish, wishing I'd bought it now!! Maybe I'll track it down for Christmas.....which reminds me, my friend I'm pretty sure is a fan of the Shopaholic series, I wonder if she knew about this book!??! :) I really enjoyed this book review!!xx

Oh, my goodness! I adore it when you don’t like a book and aren’t afraid to say so! I, too, tried to read The Switch and actually never finished it - at least it was a Kindle book so no problem figuring out what to do with it. I’m glad you enjoyed The Christmas Bookshop which I picked up after the holidays and put aside for next year - now I actually want to read it. I haven’t tried the Shopoholic books but may give them a try based on your recommendation. BTW, would you be willing to share a mailing address? I have a thrifted Tudor treasure (not a book!) I’d love to share with you.

I don't think I've ever seen you so angry at books before. I like that you didn't hold back your feelings. The first book you mentioned sounds truly awful!

I wondered why you were going to read that book!!!!! (Krantz)
    Horrible!

Who on earth recommended Judith Krantz to you? She just wrote trash, pure and simple. Her books have been labelled "sex and shopping." She died on 22 June 2019. Her obituary in The Guardian is well worth looking up -- 27 June 2019. You could say her imitators are authors like Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper.
