Thank you... I've lost a friend today, a pianist... I've always wanted to send him this song, but... Well I believed that we will have more time...
When he died, this is one of the first things that came to my mind.
Utada San and you had probably went through so much if you composed something so precious...
Thank you.
Everybody finds love in the end...
I’ve also lost a friend. It’s been years… the emptiness lingers
@@nousernamesince2019 I feel for you... It's a sensation that will never let go...
She did lose her mother 3 years prior.
@@ElijahRakotoarivony The song came out on November 17, 2012, and Utada's mother died on 22 August 2013.
Always check your facts (:
@@danielspitz9285 that is right. I haven't checked, it got the wrong date. However something equally strong, the birth of her child came around that time, I think. I haven't checked either lol
I keep forgetting this is the guy who helped to write this song with Utada Hikaru. The best part is that even though there's no lyrics, they still live on and breathe within the notes themselves.
+VorLauffen thank you
Melodies that transcend words
As far as I know the pianist makes the melody first and then the singer writes lyrics to it later. I have a friend in the music industry so I know how it works
I read the interview on your twitter.
"We'd started jamming a piece of music one day, and I started playing the main motif, it was the first ever time I'd played it and it kinda came out fully formed. You know, some of the latter parts of the song are quite intricate, especially in left hand on the piano. That all came out in one go too. It was very odd, it's never happened to me before. It's kind of surreal. I think we both knew it was something special. "
I knew it, this must be inspiration from high above. That's why it sounds so special. It's transcendent.
It truly is.
One word that indeed somehow sums it up.
Transcendental.
I feel like this is the most beautiful song I've ever heard....
❤️❤️❤️ Thank you!! 😊 Speaks to my soul, with and without words... Exquisite. 🌻
You know you're at the end of the story when Utada starts singing... Kingdom Hearts, Evangelion, etc.... ;__;
This comment has made me cried so hard!
So true! The Feels Dxxx so saddening
Did she? Well, I never played Kingdom Hearts or watched Evangellion
Utada is the epitome of feels when it comes to Jpop. Gosh I've been listening to her works since '98....
@@TheHaruharokuhana i had became her fan ever since watching the drama of which she sang the song "First Love"
Holly hell this song can get even sadder.
It broke me when I knew that Hikaru's mom commited suicide. The lyrics fits perfect with the pain she was facing at that moment
I appreciate you! I can't believe so many years on people are still finding this video.
thank you!
It’s been so many years, but this is still one of my favorite songs of all time… And I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. Whenever I play it for someone, it captures their attention like very few pieces do. There’s really something special about it. Thank you for this.
I love the cover you played on your channel!
@@kwankliu Thank you!
I loop it eternally on my phone to the point all people around me are used to this song. They love it and told me to play this louder for everyone in the room. Thank you Ben for creating this. Hopefully 4.44 also has your masterpiece in it
I've commented on this before, but it seriously deserves another comment. Just incredible. Incredible composition, incredible playing. THIS is music.
I keep coming back to this. Your piece continues to inspire me, so thank you!
Edit: 2022, still here hehe
Pretty cool to see you dropping a comment around here man, I'm a big fan of yours!
Any chance for a guitar cover on this song?
i know how it feels
When you think, you can't be shocked more than you are at the end of Evangelion 3.0, you hear this song, and you (almost) start to cry.
Thank you Paul Carter - Benbrick & Utada Hikaru !
hey.. i just wonder what u are doing now?..
@@kez9661 now i just wonder what you two are doing now
Always listening to this when I was down.. beautiful song and beautiful lyrics
“Everybody find love in the end” ❤
I always thought your piano ver. of this song was the best ever! And I always remember your name even if I am not a fan! But GOSH! I just know that you wrote this with Hikki! Oh nooo! It's almost 12 years! 😂❤
Haha thanks for sticking around for 12 years! And it's better late than never!
I'm just glad that Utada briefly came out of her hiatus if only to create this one song.
Holy mother of god. I just found a treasure. This is just, Godly.

Translation:
Watching flowers just blossomed fall
“Too early, this year” you said,
In disappointment, regret
And you were beautiful
If you could see me now
I wonder what you would think
Me, living without you
Everybody finds love
In the end
If you could hear the newborn’s cry,
Sound and healthy
Ringing in the town you protected
I know you would be so pleased
The footsteps that continue after us
Everybody finds love
In the end
I can’t believe that I’ll never see you again
I haven’t told you anything yet
I haven’t told you anything yet
Watching flowers just blossomed fall
The trees stood by, helpless
However great the fear, I will not look away
If at the end of everything, there is love
the most tranquil music i've ever heard; a panacea for all apprehension
🥲😌 so beautiful
I listen to your song every night before I sleep.
Really I can't imagine what it must have been like to write this song in such a straightforward manner. I always come back to it, it's really an amazing song.
Love from Japan❤️
Thank you so much for this gift of music to the world, it's almost as if it's a blessing to the ears.
Even though the sublime and solemn tones focus on the beauty behind sadness, I being a fan of Utada Hikaru and subsequently Evangelion, I find this in line with the other tracks in the sense that they all including this one, energize me deeply on an emotional level everytime I listen to it.
I hope some day I could convey my heartfelt thanks to you and Utada Hikaru in person.
NEVER FORGET THAT KAWORU DIED FOR *YOUR* SINS.
I fell in love with this song when evangelion:3.0 ends, this Ed is one of the best musics in evangelion!
Omg it’s so beautiful. I’m crying 😢
This is one of those rare captivating songs where you hear the tune once, and it’s so very powerful that it will never, ever leave you. Perfectly sets the mood for how Shinji is feeling having lost Kaworu.
The man behind sakura nagashi.... Salute. You so awesome sir....
This really is one of the greatest things i’ve ever heard it ages so beautifully
you've made me cry
OMG, even now I can't help the chills running through me whenever I listen to this song. Such an emotional masterpiece.
To have Ben work again with Hikaru...a dream.
I always come back to this video. It has been 5 years... i love you
God damn this looks so gorgeous
And the melody is ridiculously touching and beautifull
Everything is crafted with such precision it's straight up a masterpiece
Towa Shimizu, Utada Hikaru and Benbrick deserve an oscar
One of my favorites 🤎 you can just feel everything. This has a soul and it's magnificent. Definitely miss playing a lot when I hear such beauty. Arigatou Paul for this gem 💯
I've just bought the sheet, it's beautiful.
thank you Joshua! Enjoy!
discovered this after my favourite artist Reche did a cover on this. so beautiful
Thank you! I just listened and really enjoyed her cover.
Beautiful rendition. You can even hear the subtle piano hammer thuds.
I love this song.
It has a power to make people's hearts relaxed I think.
You have made a really beautiful song!
Thank you for your work.
From Japan
Unbelievable! This song in the end of the 3rd movie of EVA was so strong and soothing to the point of small tear drops washes gently down from my closed relaxed eyes to my chin, waiting for the melody to calmly take me to paradise :). Thank You Very Much For showing us your talent and passion in music. This really moved me after my friend, who recently passed away on May 17 2019. This was the real magic of LOVE. :)
Masterpiece... One of some songs that never gonna leave my playlist
It's a blessing to be able to hear such beautiful music. Great job! Subscribed :-)
Whenever I watch this video, you make me cry, it reminds me of the person I loved so much and now he is gone. She makes me very nostalgic, if she could turn back time I would protect her, I would do what I could not do.
wish I could play piano like this guy.
Roland Amaranto the song really isnt that hard to learn
This is truly beautiful
This is incredible. Thanks for co-writing such an amazing song with Hikaru! This inspired me to do my own piano/string arrangement of this, such a fantastic song. Congratulations! :)
Paul Carter is AMAZING!
Really i don't tire of listen it
So haunting and captivating... This song holds so much emotion. I'm overjoyed to have found this.
So beautiful. You are truly amazing.
+Roflwafflelova2 In my Utada playlist, your cover is always next to this one!
This was so beautiful I’m in tears thanks for making this amazing song that even after the movie will keep me shed tears and remember kaworu....
This song is absolutely beautiful, the melody and lyrics are just perfect!
I always seem to memmorize Utada's songs really quickly. They're so gentle, peaceful, and painful.
Thought this was the official piano ver. so I clicked on it, tho I haven't heard the actual songs yet, this is beautiful!
Holy crap what are the chances I'd bump into this tune? I listened this from a lofi mix many times in my phone
Everybody deserves love
You are a very talented artist in many ways Paul. Keep up your wonderful pieces of artwork in every way that you express it. The beauty of each individual piece is simply astounding.
How, God, can you make something so beautiful? This is too much to handle.
Paul... this is beautiful stuff.
I found your video since I've been a Hikki fan for 10 years... your solo stuff is great too. Fellow Londoner... so I'll be looking out for any live dates and your EP release!
Fantôme has been a lifeline recently. Thabk you for your beautiful, if heartwrenching, contribution.
*Thank
Thank you I downloaded the sheet music :)
Absolutely beautiful
glad you made this video
I really liked this version, you won't hear any lyrics at all, just the melody itself ^_^
plus this is the original arrangement XD so beautiful XD
Everybody finds love in the end.
Just watched Evangelion 3.0 two days ago and i had this song on my playlist since yesterday... Great job on this song. You just got a new fan.
Actually i'm quite surprised she composed a song for an anime.... but whatever song came from her was always amazing. Havent been listening much to jpop recently, time to come back to listen all over again with her songs.
THIS IS PURE RAW EMOTION.
This deserves more attention
i cant unhear the drums
masterpiece in all direction 💗
Just Perfect !!!
Paul Carter's songwriting has been featured not only in Evangelion, but also on Mary Jess' debut album. She's known as the winner of China's version of The X Factor.
This is really beautiful. I've been a long time fan of Utada's music, and watching you play makes me smile and warm in my heart.

great song, i'll never get tired of it
This is a treasure I just stumbled upon.
BRAVO!! My English isn't strong enough to express how admiring I am for your and Utada's work! You should have more pieces worked together! I love GENUINE artists and you two are!!! Thank God, they still exist! Not to mention I have to favorite this and do I really need to mention how honored I am to be one the first thousand viewer!? :D Flawless job!
can't stop listening....
greatest non-cover ever!
After all this time still cannot get over the beauty of this song. Such a perfect capture of feelings. Masterpiece. Bravo Paul & Utada!
Why would anybody dislike this?!this song is a masterpiece.
Didn't know that you co-write this with Hikki? Such a beautiful piece of music. One of the best 2012. Love it! You did a great job!
