You said so many relatable things that are so true. Like not everyone has dyslexia the same way, and you make dyslexia. Anyway thanks for making this video =)

    I don't have dyslexia, but a couple of years ago i was struggling with this weird reading issue. My mind was going completly OCD and wanted me to read a sentence over and over and OVER again until my brain was 100% sure that yes now i've fully read that sentence. So i was reading extremly slow and it took me triple as much time to get through a book. So reading was exhausting and not fun at all. So i stopped reading for a while. Finding booktube actually helped me get over this problem. I was really in the mood to read again. It went slowly in the beginning and just getting through 20 pages a day was hard, but then i got through 30 p and then 40 p and now i'm reading like i used to again!

    • @saralace8966
      @saralace8966 9 років тому

      +MarieMa1907 I have the same problem! I used to love reading but when I got OCD it was really difficult for me to read. I feel like I have to read some words over and over again. I still try to read even though it's hard. But I find that it gets better the more I read :) you're not alone xx

      Sometimes I'm so slow that i section the book in fractions and so if I want to read a book of 100 pages in one week I make sure I divide it into seven and I force myself to read one seventh of that book. Does anybody else to that?

    • @queenning28
      @queenning28 9 років тому

      I actully don't have this particular OCD but I think i completely understand! Throughout my primary and secondary school I really struggled with finishing Maths homework and exams on time, not really because I'm terrible at solving maths equations but there's this super annoying OCD that pushes me to check my calculation and answer over and over and over... I like to check (for at most two times) things when reading, writing and watching too but not nearly to the OCD degree. And I was not very confident as a child and teenage so my parents said I should just 'trust' myself more and stuff like that and just do it, faster. But that's not the (main) problem and it's not helping! I literally couldn't CONTROL myself and OCD just took over my mind and body when i do maths, until I'm like 110% sure the calculation process is all correct.

    • @queenning28
      @queenning28 9 років тому

      but now i'm finishing uni and what I do find is that as my confidence and general level of happiness and inner peace (lol) improve, my habit of reading and writing checking is fading. I'm probably less OCD with Maths too but not sure, since i haven't touched it for years;)

    My sister is dyslexic but loves stories so I tell her the plot of the books I'm currently reading and on the rare occasion she likes the sound of them so she pick it them and tries to read it herself. She prefers to read aloud than in her head (that way I can help her out with some words). A little over a year ago she picked up City of Bones and she's read all six books in the series, sometimes with my help and sometimes by herself. I couldn't be more prouder knowing I helped her find the confidence to read by herself more :)

    It's amazing how you can talk about your struggles so openly - I can't say I understand what having dyslexia feels like, but I can understand what having something affect your learning, and hours of testing etc feels like, I have chronic fatigue syndrome along with a multiple other things. It makes long term concentration really hard, so it makes reading harder too! But like you, reading helped me through! I've also missed over four years of school, and I fell behind with so much. It is so frustrating having something holding you back. You're so strong, thank you for sharing this with us. Even though what is "wrong" with us is different, it is also similar in some ways and it's nice to feel not so alone! x

    Oh Sasha your story is amazin.The fact you didn't let your dyslexia get in your way is simply amazing. You seriously inspire me to overcome any trials that I have. I remember when I was young and I was not an avid reader my reading was horrible and I hated reading in public as a 5th grader and my reading level was not the best for it should have been it was embarrassing having to read out loud to a kindergartner when we went to go visit their class. I remember feeling so embarrassed that I did not like reading but like you on my own time I started reading and it got better it took years and years for my reading to finally improve but I always had a love for reading because of my grandmother. The fact of what you're majoring in college with your dyslexia and your not letting stop you is amazing! Love your channel!

    My mom is a psychologist and has helped so many kids with many different issues and something she told me is that if a doctor or anyone ever sat each and everyone single on of us down we would all have a mental disorder just in different doses. So for anyone who is dealing with an issue like this, don't worry we are all a tiny bit messed up but it's being a tiny bit messed up that makes us human who overcome 😄

    Omg Sasha I'm so so glad that you got to share your story with all of us! I've never been diagnosed before and I've always been afraid to tell my mom because she knows that she believes in me in accomplishing things and what not. But ive always been struggling with reading and writing and I also used to be a very good speaker but not until it came sophomore year of high school. Everything was different, I always started to stutter, afraid of making eye contact, etc. I struggled so so much and I felt so insecure about this and stupid because I always thought that I'm always the last one to get to things. I didn't know what was happening to me. Your youtube channel is the reason why I started to read and now im head over heels with them. I really used to hate reading but now I absolutely love them. I'm now a freshman in college just like you are and it's definetly something I need to work on. I do believe that I'm starting to improve on myself but what I'm not sure is if I should still go to the doctor and get tested... I'd really appreciate it if someone replied it'd help me a lot ☺ Thanks again for the amazing video Sasha ily ❤

    This is my favorite vid! I have two loved ones who have dyslexia. My dad never learned to read, but he was born in the days when the teachers did not understand this need. Growing up I had to read subtitles at movies or menus for him when I visited him. The other, pushed through and luckily was born in a state that had programs to help. He later became a strong reader. I love seeing the huge improvment in help, educators are having with those who struggle with dyslexia.
    Thank you so much for sharing :)
    My favorite pararomance author has shared her struggles with dyslexia openly to help teachers and educators when aiding a person struggling. She has such an amazing mind full of great characters and worlds. The world would be a lot less colorful if she had let dyslexia stop her from telling her stories.

    I am so glad you made this video. I am dyslexic too, and I was diagnosed when I was in 3rd grade. I was really lucky because my mom had dyslexia so she knew what the symptoms where, otherwise I would have been like you and my teachers would have just passed it on as something else (my 2nd grade teacher just thought I was a lazy student ). I really have my reading teachers to thank. I have to take a list of extra reading classes and each one of them always encouraged my to just read. It wasn't until I was in 8th grade when my teacher talked about Twilight that I willingly read a book on my own and enjoyed it. I'm proud that I am a reader and dyslexic, because it shows me what I have over come. Thank you for making this video I think it will help a lot of people not only understand dyslexia better, but show those who have this disability that they can do anything they want to.

    I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was in elementary school. I was also struggling with being right handed when in all actuality I was left handed. My teacher kept forcing me to use my right hand, letters were being flipped around, and also I would invert numbers as well. The school called in my parents for a meeting and my teacher kept telling my parents that I needed to go to special ed classes. She kept labeling me "retarded" -Her exact words (not trying to offend anyone with that word but that is how I was labeled) My mom flipped out and put me in a rehabilitation center after school and they helped me with learning to be LEFT handed. They made me left handed scissors and taught me to write left handed. I was truly left handed and because my teacher kept telling me I was using the "wrong hand" it made things worse. I went to the rehab center everyday after school and I did fine. I had reading struggles and math struggles but I truly think being in those rehab classes helped me stay caught up in class and stay current with my reading level. After a yr, I didn't have to go to rehab any longer and I did well during my academic years. Thank you for sharing your story with us!!!

    I'm proud to see someone who struggles through but comes out strong at the end. I actually have dysphasia wich is a learning dissability of speaking and understanding what other people are saying to you. I'm better today since a doctor and my mom tested me when i was 4 years old. I still have a little bit of struggles when it comes to learning, but i have higher marks today then when i was a kid. I'm actually happy for you working hard as a kid (even when you didn't). :)

    I have thought I was dyslexic for around 5 years. when I was in year 9 I talked with my school councillor about it and she put my theory down straight away because I liked to read. Yes I can read but I usually have to read each paragraph twice to understand it. Also, when we studied a play in class I loved volunteering to read because I can become that character for a little while but I always read the play several times the night before so I knew what was happening and so I didn't stop or stutter at any words.
    This video is a great encouragement for me. Thank you so so much :)

    Thank you for sharing your story. While I don't struggle with any type of learning disability, I do have other medical problems that make me feel like I'm being held back. I'm always ice cold, iron deficient, and have over all have a blood disorder that's so rare, it's called a heredity disorder but no one else in my family has it. My point is, by hearing your overcoming story and strong advice, I feel better knowing I can use your advice to help not only myself face problems but others who are struggling too.

    I have dyslexia and ADHD, I was diagnosed with the two when I was in the 2nd grade, I had a major form of dyslexia and a minor form of ADHD, my dyslexia makes me awful at spelling, I would not know how to spell a word with out the red line under words. My ADHD makes me hyper, I don't think before I say things, I forget what I was going to say in the middle of talking to someone, if I start thinking about stuff I start to walk around the house in a trance not knowing what I am doing when I snap out of the trance, I have to always be moving or talking to keep my self from screaming out in irritation, i also have major anxiety because of my ADHD, I can't be calm and collected when things are hard, I just melt down and cry, scream, and I am overall nasty when I can't do something, and the worst thing is is that I can't control it. ( I continue this in my reply, I don't have enough space to write the rest)

      When my dyslexia and ADHD mix it usually happens when I am reading, if the audio book guy is not speaking while I am reading i instantly forget what I just read and I have to read it again over and over until I remember it. My dyslexia affects me by not allowing me to read in my head, I can't spell, ( I literally asked someone how to spell orange, hehe mean girls reference) I am awful at grammar, word get mixed around, this was and still is my life, but it's gotten better, I used to hate reading with a passion until I picked up the lightning thief by Rick Riordan, that book changed my life forever, I now read more, lastly I would like to say one thing, I would never change my life for all the money in the world, my life is special and I don't want it to me anything more or less, I have came to accept my disability and it is what makes me puppypaws2012 ( I am not allowed to say my real name 🤗) Thanks for reading my story 😝

    I also have dyslexia and have been diagnosed since about the same time as you. When I was younger I struggled with getting my b's and d's mixed up but I finally got it :) I mostly struggle with phonological awareness which can make spelling and reading hard, especially when it's a word i've never seen before, but, on the other hand reading has actually helped with this as I've learnt a lot more words.
    It is great to see how you have over come and learnt to live with your dyslexia :) Thanks for making this video :)

    I loved hearing your story Sasha! I have problems of my own, which are not dyslexia, but I'm getting help for them and once I know about them a bit more I'll probably film a video like you have talking about how I coped with it over the years and getting help with it. Not only that but getting through it and accepting it as well. My partner is an obvious case of even minor Dyslexia so it's strange how it took the doctors so long to figure it out back then for you. My partner hates reading and sometimes says or spells things really strangely. His father is majorly dyslexic so I think it comes from him. My cousins are also dyslexic but they got classes at a young age too and were able to overcome it. My sister is also an obvious Dyspraxic but she's overcome that a lot too over the years. It took her ages as a kid to learn how to even catch a ball and now she's one of the best players in her soccer team at high school. Everyone has their personal struggles but it's so much more rewarding when you learn to overcome it and even just accept it as a part of you :) Thanks for the inspiring video, Sasha! You've made me really thin about changing my life around :')

    I just found you yesterday and I feel my love of books calling for me again!
    I don't have dyslexia, but I do have some issues with underdevelopment in the mind, and possibly adhd now that I actually studied up on it. My mind can't keep up with most other people of my age, and I can't concentrate on nearly anything for long. Reading was a bit difficult for me to pick up at first, but I tried my best anyway and ended up reading years above my level very quickly (chapter books as early as kindergarten) because I was so very desperate. My parents weren't the best parents, I guess is enough to say, so as a neglected introvert child I found a home in the world of written fiction. I burned through books in search of myself until my eyes suffered. Due to that I've had to limit my reading, but I'm yearning for more again. Currently I'm writing my own books, which I hope might help others in that position. Fantasy is an amazing remedy for loneliness.

    I do not have dyslexia but I want to be a writer and I k ow the feeling of over thinking and it is something that is so annoying .I so much do not want to over think but do anyway . I have found that just sitting down with an idea before I can think about it and s just putting my pencil to the page before the over thinking settles in and writing is something that helps bit It is different for everyone, and Sasha you are an am sig person and are such and inspiration . every time I watch one of your videos I just want to get up and conquer the world , you helped me get out of a long time book slump that bordered on 2 years and I'm so thankful for that , you got me into reading again and reading is part of my soul so thank you for giving me my soul back and you are just such an amazing person and one day I can't wait to read the book that I KNOW YOU CAN WRITING because you are capable and awesome. so thank you for making my days so much happier and being such an inspiration and helping other people .

My parents were told that my sister was stupid and lazy and she would never get anywhere before we moved schools and she got diagnosed, and now she's a really great reader. As I'm writing this actually, I'm going through some testing to find out if I'm dyslexic (since we are twins so we have similar genes and its genetic) so this is lovely to see. I was diagnosed at the same age so your story really resonated with me. Before being diagnosed reading anything , let alone reading out loud, was a nightmare. Which is really sad for me because I missed out on falling in love with a story and growing up with it. I had zero self confidence and became extremely shy because nobody know what was wrong ( which was extremely frustrating for my parents, my teachers and myself) and the only solution I came to was that I was just stupid.
    It really effected me and I didn't even know what it was yet but during the period between year 6 and year 7 my mum took my to get tested.
    I was diagnosed and processed to go and get treatment for 6 weeks. That was 7 years ago and now I'm at university studying Journalism, I am way more confident in myself and I absolutely love reading.
