You reminded me of a time that I was in Dollar Tree and the clerk loved my cute bag. I said “thank you” and left. The next day I thought about how much she liked it, went back to the store and found out she was in the hospital. One of the other clerks, a man, was going to visit her. I told my story and gave my bag to him to take to her. He said it would really make her feel good. It is still one of my favorite memories. 💕

I'm 61 and I certainly remember elevator rides from my childhood. Mother and I regularly shopped "downtown" and I vividly remember the elevator door opening and the operator pulling back the cage doors and announcing the various floors. Soon thereafter shopping malls took over most of the business and downtown areas became passe.
Cynthia, I loved shopping with my mother in the downtown department stores as a very small child...I sure do remember getting on the elevator , the person who opened and closed the medal door who actually wore a uniform, and announced what was on each floor...amazing! Happy Days, we would spend the day shopping and have lunch in the luncheonette...then came the malls, and we still shopped, but the old days were priceless , and so much fun!☺️💕
Oh how l remember going with my mom in NYC on the subway to go to Bloomingdale's!!! Mind you, she was blessed to have a friend who worked there and so we could see maybe 1 or 2 things we could admire and then, her friend would use her discount to allow my mom to have something from there!! It was such a special treat and she used those items to teach me how to recognize quality and search for those qualities in the stores we could afford..Macy's or Alexanders!!
@@victoriarios6271 Yes!!! Remember how Hudsons had a complete floor at Christmas time just for Christmas items and Santa Claus? One of my very favorite stories about my son (he was two) was taking him there to see Santa Claus and the line was soooo long and people were getting crabby from the wait. I asked my son what he was going to say to Santa Claus and he said "Trick or Treat" because he was still excited about Halloween, Everybody was laughing so hard that the story was passed down the line and everyone was in a better mood. My son is now 57 and his brothers still tease him about it!!!

I just love you! I have to share this story with you about your friend having her wallet stolen. Years ago I was a single parent working in the meat dept. in a large grocery store. It was near the time when seniors got their pension cheque’s so they were out to get their groceries. I saw one of the senior’s looking in the freezer section and a man looking at her buggy. The man was on the large size around 6pm 4” or 5”. He was not interested in what I was doing because he was so focused on the ladies buggy. When I looked at the cart I noticed her purse was open so I moved closer. The man put his hand in to grab the wallet and I grabbed his hand. I yelled STOP because I wanted people to see what he was doing and they did. He turned around and told me I was crazy so I continued to yell, you are trying to steal this ladies wallet. He ran out of the store and the lady turned to me and said, have you got any larger shrimp? I nearly exploded....this man was stealing your wallet and she replied “really”. I handed her purse with the wallet still inside and told her she must hold onto it at all times. The store manager came over to me after someone had told him what had happened. He told me never to do that again because he could have a knife or a gun and I could have gotten badly hurt. I turned to him and said if it were to happen right there and then I would do the same thing. The lady had gone to the store manager when she had time to process what had happened. I cannot stand by and watch a crime happen to anyone and that is just who I am. I am now 72 and trust me when I say, to this day I have not changed.
Patti, I'm 70 and do remember the elevator with the operator who announced each floor. My story is that in 1967 I finally saved enough to buy a John Romaine bag that I loved. One Friday night my boyfriend picked me up from my job at Rose's. We had a wreck in a bad part of town and someone stole my bag while the EMTs were getting me out of the car. I never paid that much for a bag again but I do love picking out a new bag that speaks to me. My husband laughs at me because I usually switch over to the new bag in the car on the way home. I have been snapping my bag into the child seat for years too. Congratulations on the grandbabies on the way. We have six from age 5 to 18. Such blessings. I really enjoyed your chat.
I own Dooney and Bourke handbags and my husband gets me a new one each birthday. It’s the zip-zip domed bag this year in lavender. Inside these Dooney bags it has a dog leash to attach my keys. Rolled leather handbags. Shoulder strap if I want to use it. Lots of pockets inside. About $300 each but we watch for sales. I have black, elephant grey, lavender in this style. A red tote snd navy croco tote. A cream camera bag, a tan ostrich Dooney bag. I love them all and appreciate every one! These are all leather. Love the brand. It started making bridles, saddle parts then later men’s small wallets in 1800s in England. I appreciate the fine workmanship that you cannot find in America. The company started making ladies handbags about 1920s. I have other colored bags, less expensive. But the Dooney and Bourke is an investment bag. My first one I purchased over 15 years ago was the black. So this is my choice right now and worth saving up $$$ for. I get many compliments on these bags with my outfits. I’m 72. I’m not ‘fading away’. My bags are my ‘signature piece’. They have classic styling. Pat in Colorado

I love the "Prada" bag. The colors are stunning, and l adore the New Orleans bag too. As an ethical vegetarian l only buy PU (polyurethane) leather, another thing l insist on is a cross-body strap so my hands are free. Betsy Jonson is such a wonderful designer. I just got a white purse that looks like half a wheel. I didn't need it but when l saw it on Wish i had to have it. Belated congratulations on the twins. While traveling a few years ago a young lady at the kiosk was helping us. She immediately said, Oh my! what perfume are you wearing? I told her. She just kept on how she loved it. Now, the back story to this. It was a brand new bottle. For some reason when leaving to return home I ask my husband if I could put in his carry on? He said sure! Now, we go to our gate to catch our flight home. Storms had come in and our flight was delayed and it was late at night. Then all of a sudden this young girl showed up very winded and said, oh I am so glad I found you. She wanted to know the name of the perfume and where could she buy it. I started to tell her then I reached over and got in my husband's carry on and handed the new bottle to her. She was shocked. I told her here I want you to have this. She said oh I can't and I told her yes, I want you to have this, please. She teared up. By this time everyone was watching. She told me thank you a hundred times and said this is this nicest thing anyone has ever done for her. It was all I could do was hold it together. She gave me a big hug and thanked me again and looked like she was walking on a cloud. My husband said, didn't you just buy that bottle? Then he said, you made her day. Everyone around us forgot about the terrible weather and said...that was so nice or sweet of you. Well, in fact I think I received the most joy from giving it to her and seeing her reaction. Sometimes stuff we think we need someone else needs it more to let them know people really care and can be nice. I love giving people things. Patti, I hope you do not mind me sharing this long story. I wanted you to come on screen like my evening news anchor. When I was a kid my aunt would take me shopping to Bonwitt Teller and I remember the gloved elevator operator making the announcements. The outing was a big deal - we had lunch and I would get a nice gift. memories💓💓
Patti - Good for you for vegan handbags (I’m vegan)! I used to be a big Coach handbag fan and had many over the years, but no more. I sold them at yard sales over the years and put the profits towards our farm animal sanctuary here in New York State. I found that Etsy has some incredible options for handmade vegan handbags, carry-alls, clutches, etc. But even Louis Vuitton now makes their signature canvas Speedy bags with palm “leather” straps. I was able to pick up a different style LV handbag in several of the places we’ve traveled to for vacations over the years, and those were always my favorite “souvenirs”, better than key chains and t-shirts. And attended elevators in department stores - Meyer Brothers in Paterson, NJ. Long rows of glass counters full of perfume and makeup. Handbags, scarves, costume jewelry. The classic department store, the kind that, sadly, no longer exists🙁 (This is getting long, so I’ll say “‘bye” for this time.)
My friend asked my opinion. Her mum is a widow and all her life she has wanted a Chanel handbag. Her mum hasn't said anything in recent years and is now in her 80's. I said, if you and your sister can afford it, get it for her because it will come back to you, (their kindness) one day, at some stage. They bought it but not because of that. Love handbags. I’m primarily a Vera Bradley fan. Such light weight, colorful, functional bags. I feel most comfortable wearing a crossbody for any kind of shopping and I encourage my 85 yr old mom to do the same. It feels secure to have it right with you. My grandmother loved bags and I got that from her. She felt like it was her personal and private treasure chest.
FIRST OF ALL!!!! CONGRATULATIONS ON THE IN THE OVEN TWINS! How wonderful is that!!! Now- back to handbags... hats... handbags... lingerie... Just like soup & sandwich or... cigars.... cigarettes.... tipparellos! My mom had a red bucket bag by Dooney and Burke... she bought it in 1948 when she was working for the phone company... she had red shoes and a charcoal dress with a red belt and a hat to go with it- it was one of her very best favorite bags, so when I got my first job as an adult she gave the dress and the bag to me. Both are now in clothing heaven... but I did get MANY years in addition to my Mom’s use out of them... so...... when I saw Lisa Robertson doing the presentation for a Florentine leather Dooney and Burke Bag I had to have it- it was a TSV and was a stupid good price... but still well over $300! I joke that that bag will hold my ashes when I am gone because it will outlast me! Lol! Thanks for the memory of the Two Lisa’s... Mason and Robertson! I think they were neck & neck in popularity! Lisa R is right here on UTube too now... and lastly... the person who designed your bag from Barcelona should perhaps design for Prada! Sooo pretty! Thats a cute story about putting your ashes in the bag when you die...i thought it was hilarious!!...maybe my brother or nieces will do that for me...as i love purses.....from thrift stores,pawn shops,garage sales...i was just gifted a Coach brown croc style w silver/ leather straps...i cleaned all the interior linings looks like new.....i am using a Pink paisley floral design frm Vera Bradley crossbody style purchased frm goodwill in great condition for $14.00 washed it inside a pillow case cold water gentle cycle with laundry soap air dry...great bag for doing errands especially grocery store...you are so cute...tyfs

I paid 35 cents for my favorite bag ever. Black canvas. The person who donated that awesome name brand treasure to that thrift store is my hero. Made to last forever with a compartment for everything. Just the right size. Holds all the essential goodies are inconspicuously goes everywhere. Priceless.
I'm with you, Patti, I really don't care for designer bags. My SIL received a Louis Vuitton from her son and she made a really good point: "Now I have to worry about it getting stolen!" Of course she was really gracious about accepting it but she rarely uses it. If it’s a designer purse, either get the thing out and use it or sell it in either a consignment store or Poshmark. Please don’t put it away like a shrine or hoarder. It was made to be used. Your son will be delighted you’re using it. I saved a long time to buy one and it will be in tatters before I throw it out. This just confirms if you spend your own hard earned money on something you will use it, and if it’s given to you the opposite will happen. Good luck and enjoy your gift. Trust me.

Thanks for the memory, I had totally forgotten the elevator experience. Brings back fond memories of down town shopping, long before malls. I`m with you on the bags. As long as I like it and it serves my purpose. You have great taste, so I`m not surprised that you get lots of compliments, probably on more than the bags.(: My purse never leaves my body and I always have a death grip on it too, when I`m out in public. LOL...I personally haven`t bought a hand bag in years, but one of my daughter-in-laws has given me several Vera Bradley bags for Christmas, over the years and I love them. Patti, I just discovered you and your channel. You are beautiful in all ways, especially your heart. I’m binging and sent your link to my besties. I am 78. At 75 I moved us across country to be near family. My husband is handicapped so it was up to me. You can do this! Last year, at age 77, I became ill enough that I could not care for my husband or myself so my son took us into his home. After a few months (covid happening), we all decided to make it permanent. So, I found a small horse farm with two houses and two barns…my son, his wife and children, my husband and I all loved it! We bought it, then I sold two houses and we all moved in. A year later, I am adding an addition to the main house to make caring for us easier for everyone and at the same time remodeling my deceased family’s home to sell. Whew! It has been a lot of work that I’m really too tired to do but did it anyway. So, I guess this is what I’m saying: If you want and or need to do it, you can and will. It’s not a race so pace yourself. Be organized as much as possible. Ask for help and/or hire help. My friends, who are awesome, helped me unpack when we moved across country. When they helped me pack to move this last time, I promised them, “This is my last move”!!! God bless them and God bless you.

Yes I am your generation and proud of it. I remember as a little girl my aunt would talk me downtown Houston (I was born and grew up in Houston suburbs) to Neiman Marcus, Foleys, Saks, Joske's, etc. I would dress in socks, white gloves and a little girl hat. There was always a fashion show at no charge with ladies walking around as we lunched! I graduated high school and college and was not allowed to wear pants, it was skirts, dresses, and not ever short.

Hi there, I love leather bags. But I like a couple of your selections. I also do the same thing with jewelry. If someone says they really like something (jewelry) I'm wearing, I give it to them. A quick story: I had a pair of silver hoop earrings I really liked. They were the thick medium sized silver hoops. I just loved them. One Saturday I go grocery shopping and the cashier (young girl) said how much she liked the earrings. She said it 2 or 3 times, so I took them off and gave them to her. She was shocked, but happy. That was almost 2 years ago. I got them at "ETSY's" on-line jewelry and other things. I have been searching for those earrings going on two years now. Long story short, I hope I find them one day. Ha ha ha ha ha. I just love you to pieces. Be blessed
I was in Madrid April 2019 and saw the vendors with their blankets selling handbags. It was an experience to witness them in action in the plaza. I have 2 bags gifted to me by my brother & sister in law purchased the same way in Portugal Madrid is a beautiful city. I enjoyed Spain tremendously.

Congratulations on the news,how wonderful,babies are a joy but grand babies are in every way better...you get to bounce them, love them ,squeeze and spoil them but when they cry or need changing or you need sleep, you get to hand them back. Really liked the handbags. I use them as purely a necessity,but every once and awhile I really love one. I have a one compartment ,brown fake leather one now for fall and winter. It has an adjustable strap, it's been durable and easy to carry. For spring I like crocheted bags in light colors. I like shoulder bags best,but I do use a tote at times. My favorite bag of all time was blue denim with fringe on the bottom it had a denim strap, too. I called it my hippie bag and it stayed with me till it fell apart, loved it because it was so comfortable. Funny how things like that come back to you,isn't it. Blessings and love.

Patty, Loved this video. I grew up in a family of 6 kids in Wisconsin, stay at home mom, and dad who worked in a factory. We never had much money but somehow we always had what every other kid had....never expensive and many times not name brand. So through my 77 years I always had one affordable summer purse and one winter purse. I never had any love for purses until I was on HSN or QVC one day and they had a I believe a Shariff (?) multicolor larger bag that I went crazy for. It was too expensive but I got it any way. I used it for years through all the seasons and got compliments every day, even from men. I remember going up the stairs in the movie theater and this guy shouts out "I love your bag." It was one of those moments you don't forget. And your purse story with the girl scout cookie girl hit home. I have given away many things when something like this happened. A number of months ago I was just walking out of the car maintenance place and this woman walked in. I said I just love your mask (doggies all over it).. She said I absolutely love your necklace. It was my special one. I walked out, got to my car, turned around and went back and gave it to her. Told her how to shine it up and walked out. I felt good all day ❤

Congratulations on the twins 💗💙 I'm half of a boy & girl set of twins...it's an instant lifelong best friend & I'm truly grateful for him. My Grandpa gave me my 1st purse (it was navy & matched my pale blue & navy floral dress). Love at 1st site & I've had one glued to my arm since 😂❤ I never cared anything about name brand (good because even my extremely hard working Mom couldn't afford such for herself). Shape & color is all that's ever won my heart. There are 3 I cry about even now...1) the purple mini clamshell that was stolen by 2 girls in Leggett's when I was almost 10, 2) the Strawberry Shortcake shelled Bermuda bag my Mom made me when I was about 7 & 3) the 1950s/60s Wicker bag that belonged to my Grandma & was handed down to me around age 8 after she passed. #2 & #3 were given away while I was away at college when my family needed my bedroom for another family member. I'll never get them back. But, I ❤ & carry only vintage purses...so am always looking for similar ones when thrifting. So this video...most definitely the story of the little girl that adored your bag....really means a lot to me & I enjoyed watching. ❤
Wonderful talk and inspiration for us ladies. One recent summer I was asked to care daily in the mornings, for an elderly woman in the neighborhood. I made some extra money and bought a Frye handbag. I was a stay at home mom so that extra money was such a fun bonus for me. I love the handbag. I’ll keep it or sell it but I don’t always have to have the finest. I have been a handbag freak for as Iong as I can remember. I love that you said that we can almost tell our age by what we call our bags. My grandmother always called hers" pocketbooks.".For me, I like calling them "handbags. Purses is what I call my everyday knockabouts. I don't know about you, but some seasons I will only wear structured bags and some times I love to carry a big ole slouchy purse. Since I live in Palm Springs and everything is so casual, I am not always feeling comfortable in something too "business like". Being almost 74 I don't get out as much (COVID) but I love the hunt and that is always the first place my eyes are drawn. Thanks for just being you !!!!

As I am listening to you, I thought I'd tell you what I do when I grocery shop....but then you shared you do it ! Using the child seat belt to loop thru the handle of my purse.....& I make sure my bag is closed...snapped, zipped or whatever. That way, no one can just reach in & grab anything out of it or grab my bag , A friend of mine had her wallet lifted right out of her bag when she was in a store...& the thief didn't waste any time using it to buy all sorts of things. I'm a bag lady ! LOL Love bags....so is a friend of mine. I crochet...so I've crocheted a couple shopping bags for my friend. I don't care about big brands....I just love bags. It's fun to have a bag that gets compliments. I have sort of a boho bag that gets attention.One of my favorites is such a pretty shade of blue....I ordered it thru Amazon when it was down to just $10 & usually sells for more than $20.
I am catching up on a couple of your vids that I had missed. I love this one! I’m also a “bag lady” and do not want leather as it is so heavy. I have bags of all colors, shapes and sizes. This video really hit a home run with me. I haven’t given a purse away but a woman at church kept going on about how much she loved my Bible cover. Just discovered your channel. You are such a lovely, kind person - you remind me of my mother, who I miss so much. My favorite bag is a Longchamp La Pliage - both the Original and the Neo. They are both black and I love them because they are great for travel which, prior to the pandemic, I did a lot of. These bags can be squished underneath airline seats, smushed into overhead compartments, get soaked in the rain, dropped in mud... and they are indestructible, easy to clean, can be folded into a small rectangle to put inside a suitcase, and even after 8 years still look brand new. They also hold an amazing amount of stuff.

Love this! I love any bags and jewelry that make me happy. I was buying a preloved bag when the cashier told me how much she loved it but couldn’t get it because she was paying for college. After paying I gave it to her. Her joy made my day! My husband who was part of the plan said that sure felt good. 😍
My handbag this season is a vintage Enid Collins original. It's like a picnic basket with daisies and strawberries hand-painted on the wooden top. Lined with gingham with a handy pocket, the compact little beauty holds everything!

I love that story about the little girl. You inspired me. I also love Channel. But I also love dupes. And I have the same opinion on bags as you. My favorite bag now is a big vegan shopper with no design on it. It looks like expensive cowhide. I think I got it at DSW shoe store for less than $50. Every day that I grab for it I feel thankful because it is perfect for me.

I love handbags and have far too many. I do own a small Chanel bag which was a gift from a woman I helped. It is truly a piece of art and I only carry it on special occasions due to the value. I currently carry a leather Ralph Lauren zip top bag which I always use when traveling. It is safe with a lovely wide opening and fits everything for travel. On one flight the lady across from me looked so familiar and I was pretty sure it was Betsy Johnson. She got up to use the restroom and I dug out my little BJ backpack from under the seat and sat it on my lap. When she returned she leaned over and said I love your bag. You reminded me of a time that I was in Dollar Tree and the clerk loved my cute bag. I said “thank you” and left. The next day I thought about how much she liked it, went back to the store and found out she was in the hospital. One of the other clerks, a man, was going to visit her. I told my story and gave my bag to him to take to her. He said it would really make her feel good. It is still one of my favorite memories. 💕

I'm 61 and I certainly remember elevator rides from my childhood. Mother and I regularly shopped "downtown" and I vividly remember the elevator door opening and the operator pulling back the cage doors and announcing the various floors. Soon thereafter shopping malls took over most of the business and downtown areas became passe.
Cynthia, I loved shopping with my mother in the downtown department stores as a very small child...I sure do remember getting on the elevator , the person who opened and closed the medal door who actually wore a uniform, and announced what was on each floor...amazing! Happy Days, we would spend the day shopping and have lunch in the luncheonette...then came the malls, and we still shopped, but the old days were priceless , and so much fun!☺️💕

Oh how l remember going with my mom in NYC on the subway to go to Bloomingdale's!!! Mind you, she was blessed to have a friend who worked there and so we could see maybe 1 or 2 things we could admire and then, her friend would use her discount to allow my mom to have something from there!! It was such a special treat and she used those items to teach me how to recognize quality and search for those qualities in the stores we could afford..Macy's or Alexanders!!

One of my very favorite stories about my son (he was two) was taking him there to see Santa Claus and the line was soooo long and people were getting crabby from the wait. I asked my son what he was going to say to Santa Claus and he said "Trick or Treat" because he was still excited about Halloween, Everybody was laughing so hard that the story was passed down the line and everyone was in a better mood. My son is now 57 and his brothers still tease him about it!!!

I just love you! I have to share this story with you about your friend having her wallet stolen. Years ago I was a single parent working in the meat dept. in a large grocery store. It was near the time when seniors got their pension cheque’s so they were out to get their groceries. I saw one of the senior’s looking in the freezer section and a man looking at her buggy. The man was on the large size around 6pm 4” or 5”. He was not interested in what I was doing because he was so focused on the ladies buggy. When I looked at the cart I noticed her purse was open so I moved closer. The man put his hand in to grab the wallet and I grabbed his hand. I yelled STOP because I wanted people to see what he was doing and they did. He turned around and told me I was crazy so I continued to yell, you are trying to steal this ladies wallet. He ran out of the store and the lady turned to me and said, have you got any larger shrimp? I nearly exploded....this man was stealing your wallet and she replied “really”. I handed her purse with the wallet still inside and told her she must hold onto it at all times. The store manager came over to me after someone had told him what had happened. He told me never to do that again because he could have a knife or a gun and I could have gotten badly hurt. I turned to him and said if it were to happen right there and then I would do the same thing. The lady had gone to the store manager when she had time to process what had happened. I cannot stand by and watch a crime happen to anyone and that is just who I am. I am now 72 and trust me when I say, to this day I have not changed.

Patti, I'm 70 and do remember the elevator with the operator who announced each floor. My story is that in 1967 I finally saved enough to buy a John Romaine bag that I loved. One Friday night my boyfriend picked me up from my job at Rose's. We had a wreck in a bad part of town and someone stole my bag while the EMTs were getting me out of the car. I never paid that much for a bag again but I do love picking out a new bag that speaks to me. My husband laughs at me because I usually switch over to the new bag in the car on the way home. I have been snapping my bag into the child seat for years too.

I own Dooney and Bourke handbags and my husband gets me a new one each birthday. It’s the zip-zip domed bag this year in lavender. Inside these Dooney bags it has a dog leash to attach my keys. Rolled leather handbags. Shoulder strap if I want to use it. Lots of pockets inside. About $300 each but we watch for sales.
I have black, elephant grey, lavender in this style. A red tote snd navy croco tote. A cream camera bag, a tan ostrich Dooney bag. I love them all and appreciate every one!
These are all leather. Love the brand.
It started making bridles, saddle parts then later men’s small wallets in 1800s in England. I appreciate the fine workmanship that you cannot find in America. The company started making ladies handbags about 1920s.
I have other colored bags, less expensive. But the Dooney and Bourke is an investment bag. My first one I purchased over 15 years ago was the black.
So this is my choice right now and worth saving up $$$ for. I get many compliments on these bags with my outfits. I’m 72. I’m not ‘fading away’. My bags are my ‘signature piece’. They have classic styling.

I love the "Prada" bag. The colors are stunning, and l adore the New Orleans bag too. As an ethical vegetarian l only buy PU (polyurethane) leather, another thing l insist on is a cross-body strap so my hands are free. Betsy Jonson is such a wonderful designer. I just got a white purse that looks like half a wheel. I didn't need it but when l saw it on Wish i had to have it. Belated congratulations on the twins. While traveling a few years ago a young lady at the kiosk was helping us. She immediately said, Oh my! what perfume are you wearing? I told her. She just kept on how she loved it. Now, the back story to this. It was a brand new bottle. For some reason when leaving to return home I ask my husband if I could put in his carry on? He said sure! Now, we go to our gate to catch our flight home. Storms had come in and our flight was delayed and it was late at night. Then all of a sudden this young girl showed up very winded and said, oh I am so glad I found you. She wanted to know the name of the perfume and where could she buy it. I started to tell her then I reached over and got in my husband's carry on and handed the new bottle to her. She was shocked. I told her here I want you to have this. She said oh I can't and I told her yes, I want you to have this, please. She teared up. By this time everyone was watching. She told me thank you a hundred times and said this is this nicest thing anyone has ever done for her. It was all I could do was hold it together. She gave me a big hug and thanked me again and looked like she was walking on a cloud. My husband said, didn't you just buy that bottle? Then he said, you made her day. Everyone around us forgot about the terrible weather and said...that was so nice or sweet of you. Well, in fact I think I received the most joy from giving it to her and seeing her reaction. Sometimes stuff we think we need someone else needs it more to let them know people really care and can be nice. I love giving people things. Patti, I hope you do not mind me sharing this long story. Patti - Good for you for vegan handbags (I’m vegan)! I used to be a big Coach handbag fan and had many over the years, but no more. I sold them at yard sales over the years and put the profits towards our farm animal sanctuary here in New York State. I found that Etsy has some incredible options for handmade vegan handbags, carry-alls, clutches, etc. But even Louis Vuitton now makes their signature canvas Speedy bags with palm “leather” straps. I was able to pick up a different style LV handbag in several of the places we’ve traveled to for vacations over the years, and those were always my favorite “souvenirs”, better than key chains and t-shirts. And attended elevators in department stores - Meyer Brothers in Paterson, NJ. Long rows of glass counters full of perfume and makeup. Handbags, scarves, costume jewelry. The classic department store, the kind that, sadly, no longer exists🙁 (This is getting long, so I’ll say “‘bye” for this time.)
My friend asked my opinion. Her mum is a widow and all her life she has wanted a Chanel handbag. Her mum hasn't said anything in recent years and is now in her 80's. I said, if you and your sister can afford it, get it for her because it will come back to you, (their kindness) one day, at some stage. They bought it but not because of that. Love handbags. I’m primarily a Vera Bradley fan. Such light weight, colorful, functional bags. I feel most comfortable wearing a crossbody for any kind of shopping and I encourage my 85 yr old mom to do the same. It feels secure to have it right with you. My grandmother loved bags and I got that from her. She felt like it was her personal and private treasure chest.

My mom had a red bucket bag by Dooney and Burke... she bought it in 1948 when she was working for the phone company... she had red shoes and a charcoal dress with a red belt and a hat to go with it- it was one of her very best favorite bags, so when I got my first job as an adult she gave the dress and the bag to me. Both are now in clothing heaven... but I did get MANY years in addition to my Mom’s use out of them... so...... when I saw Lisa Robertson doing the presentation for a Florentine leather Dooney and Burke Bag I had to have it- it was a TSV and was a stupid good price... but still well over $300! I joke that that bag will hold my ashes when I am gone because it will outlast me! Lol!

Of course she was really gracious about accepting it but she rarely uses it. If it’s a designer purse, either get the thing out and use it or sell it in either a consignment store or Poshmark. Please don’t put it away like a shrine or hoarder. It was made to be used. Your son will be delighted you’re using it. I saved a long time to buy one and it will be in tatters before I throw it out. This just confirms if you spend your own hard earned money on something you will use it, and if it’s given to you the opposite will happen. Good luck and enjoy your gift. Trust me.

I am 78. At 75 I moved us across country to be near family. My husband is handicapped so it was up to me. You can do this! Last year, at age 77, I became ill enough that I could not care for my husband or myself so my son took us into his home. After a few months (covid happening), we all decided to make it permanent. So, I found a small horse farm with two houses and two barns…my son, his wife and children, my husband and I all loved it! We bought it, then I sold two houses and we all moved in. A year later, I am adding an addition to the main house to make caring for us easier for everyone and at the same time remodeling my deceased family’s home to sell. Whew! It has been a lot of work that I’m really too tired to do but did it anyway.
So, I guess this is what I’m saying: If you want and or need to do it, you can and will. It’s not a race so pace yourself. Be organized as much as possible. Ask for help and/or hire help. My friends, who are awesome, helped me unpack when we moved across country. When they helped me pack to move this last time, I promised them, “This is my last move”!!! Yes I am your generation and proud of it. I remember as a little girl my aunt would talk me downtown Houston (I was born and grew up in Houston suburbs) to Neiman Marcus, Foleys, Saks, Joske's, etc. I would dress in socks, white gloves and a little girl hat. There was always a fashion show at no charge with ladies walking around as we lunched! I graduated high school and college and was not allowed to wear pants, it was skirts, dresses, and not ever short.
I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed this video!! I am a handbag lover, since childhood, and share your sentiments about designer bags. I still remember my favorite purses from when I was a little girl. I still have one and think about the others I gave away when I "grew up". Hi there, I love leather bags. But I like a couple of your selections. I also do the same thing with jewelry. If someone says they really like something (jewelry) I'm wearing, I give it to them. A quick story: I had a pair of silver hoop earrings I really liked. They were the thick medium sized silver hoops. I just loved them. One Saturday I go grocery shopping and the cashier (young girl) said how much she liked the earrings. She said it 2 or 3 times, so I took them off and gave them to her. She was shocked, but happy. That was almost 2 years ago. I got them at "ETSY's" on-line jewelry and other things. I have been searching for those earrings going on two years now. Long story short, I hope I find them one day. I was in Madrid April 2019 and saw the vendors with their blankets selling handbags. It was an experience to witness them in action in the plaza. I have 2 bags gifted to me by my brother & sister in law purchased the same way in Portugal Madrid is a beautiful city. I enjoyed Spain tremendously.

Congratulations on the news,how wonderful,babies are a joy but grand babies are in every way better...you get to bounce them, love them ,squeeze and spoil them but when they cry or need changing or you need sleep, you get to hand them back. Really liked the handbags. I use them as purely a necessity,but every once and awhile I really love one. I have a one compartment ,brown fake leather one now for fall and winter. It has an adjustable strap, it's been durable and easy to carry. For spring I like crocheted bags in light colors. I like shoulder bags best,but I do use a tote at times. My favorite bag of all time was blue denim with fringe on the bottom it had a denim strap, too. I called it my hippie bag and it stayed with me till it fell apart, loved it because it was so comfortable. Funny how things like that come back to you,isn't it. Blessings and love.

Patti , my favorite was the very first one . Canvas matches any color you wear, and unless you’re going to be dressed fairly formal it would go with your clothing . Patti, I love you SO MUCH! "YOU" are the mother I have ALWAYS dreamed of having! I was the least favorite child of the mother I did have. I looked like my paternal grandmother & she loathed her. She held it against me my whole life. When I watch "you", I daydream that it's just you & me talking & you're sharing all your wisdom with only me. Thank you for being "who" you are!!! Patty, Loved this video. I grew up in a family of 6 kids in Wisconsin, stay at home mom, and dad who worked in a factory. We never had much money but somehow we always had what every other kid had....never expensive and many times not name brand. So through my 77 years I always had one affordable summer purse and one winter purse. I never had any love for purses until I was on HSN or QVC one day and they had a I believe a Shariff (?) multicolor larger bag that I went crazy for. It was too expensive but I got it any way. I used it for years through all the seasons and got compliments every day, even from men. I remember going up the stairs in the movie theater and this guy shouts out "I love your bag." It was one of those moments you don't forget.
And your purse story with the girl scout cookie girl hit home. I have given away many things when something like this happened. A number of months ago I was just walking out of the car maintenance place and this woman walked in. I said I just love your mask (doggies all over it).. She said I absolutely love your necklace. It was my special one. I walked out, got to my car, turned around and went back and gave it to her. Told her how to shine it up and walked out. I felt good all day ❤

You are so dear to my heart. I have a shelve in closet displaying my handbag's and shoes, I love to look at them. I love match my outfits with them. I think I need help. Total ocd for this. Lol
You are an absolute doll face...elegant lady....and totally get the love of bags...They are so personal...meant to be hugged...and are our faithful companions...! I like to set the bag initially with Kleenex...and an initial spritz of my favourite perfume/cologne...to welcome it...and of course... to polish the bottom surface...before use...to save it from wear....Also it's sometimes fun to tie a small scarf to a bag's handle for flair and colour...and " joy de vive"....!!!

Congratulations on the twins 💗💙 I'm half of a boy & girl set of twins...it's an instant lifelong best friend & I'm truly grateful for him.
My Grandpa gave me my 1st purse (it was navy & matched my pale blue & navy floral dress). Love at 1st site & I've had one glued to my arm since 😂❤
I never cared anything about name brand (good because even my extremely hard working Mom couldn't afford such for herself). Shape & color is all that's ever won my heart. There are 3 I cry about even now...1) the purple mini clamshell that was stolen by 2 girls in Leggett's when I was almost 10, 2) the Strawberry Shortcake shelled Bermuda bag my Mom made me when I was about 7 & 3) the 1950s/60s Wicker bag that belonged to my Grandma & was handed down to me around age 8 after she passed. #2 & #3 were given away while I was away at college when my family needed my bedroom for another family member.
I'll never get them back. But, I ❤ & carry only vintage purses...so am always looking for similar ones when thrifting.

Wonderful talk and inspiration for us ladies. One recent summer I was asked to care daily in the mornings, for an elderly woman in the neighborhood. I made some extra money and bought a Frye handbag. I was a stay at home mom so that extra money was such a fun bonus for me. I love the handbag. I’ll keep it or sell it but I don’t always have to have the finest. I have been a handbag freak for as Iong as I can remember. I love that you said that we can almost tell our age by what we call our bags. My grandmother always called hers" pocketbooks.".For me, I like calling them "handbags. Purses is what I call my everyday knockabouts. I don't know about you, but some seasons I will only wear structured bags and some times I love to carry a big ole slouchy purse. Since I live in Palm Springs and everything is so casual, I am not always feeling comfortable in something too "business like". Being almost 74 I don't get out as much (COVID) but I love the hunt and that is always the first place my eyes are drawn.

As I am listening to you, I thought I'd tell you what I do when I grocery shop....but then you shared you do it ! Using the child seat belt to loop thru the handle of my purse.....& I make sure my bag is closed...snapped, zipped or whatever. That way, no one can just reach in & grab anything out of it or grab my bag , A friend of mine had her wallet lifted right out of her bag when she was in a store...& the thief didn't waste any time using it to buy all sorts of things.
I'm a bag lady ! LOL Love bags....so is a friend of mine. I crochet...so I've crocheted a couple shopping bags for my friend. I don't care about big brands....I just love bags. It's fun to have a bag that gets compliments. I have sort of a boho bag that gets attention.One of my favorites is such a pretty shade of blue....I ordered it thru Amazon when it was down to just $10 & usually sells for more than $20.
I am catching up on a couple of your vids that I had missed. I love this one! I’m also a “bag lady” and do not want leather as it is so heavy. I have bags of all colors, shapes and sizes. This video really hit a home run with me. I haven’t given a purse away but a woman at church kept going on about how much she loved my Bible cover. During the service God spoke to me telling me to give her the cover so I did. I was more blessed by giving it to her than she was by receiving it. God bless you. Keep the videos coming!
Just discovered your channel. You are such a lovely, kind person - you remind me of my mother, who I miss so much. My favorite bag is a Longchamp La Pliage - both the Original and the Neo. They are both black and I love them because they are great for travel which, prior to the pandemic, I did a lot of. These bags can be squished underneath airline seats, smushed into overhead compartments, get soaked in the rain, dropped in mud... and they are indestructible, easy to clean, can be folded into a small rectangle to put inside a suitcase, and even after 8 years still look brand new. They also hold an amazing amount of stuff.
My bag at the moment is a red Kipling bag because it has lots of compartments and it’s made of lightweight fabric I use it all the time.

Love this! I love any bags and jewelry that make me happy. I was buying a preloved bag when the cashier told me how much she loved it but couldn’t get it because she was paying for college. After paying I gave it to her. Her joy made my day! My husband who was part of the plan said that sure felt good. 😍
My handbag this season is a vintage Enid Collins original. It's like a picnic basket with daisies and strawberries hand-painted on the wooden top. Lined with gingham with a handy pocket, the compact little beauty holds everything!

Designer bags have resell value. When I lost my job I was able to get me some much needed money by selling mine. I’m a handbag enthusiast, including designer.
I love that story about the little girl. You inspired me. I also love Channel. But I also love dupes. And I have the same opinion on bags as you. My favorite bag now is a big vegan shopper with no design on it. It looks like expensive cowhide. I think I got it at DSW shoe store for less than $50. Every day that I grab for it I feel thankful because it is perfect for me.

I love Lisa Robison and pretty much stopped watching QVC when she left. There are other lovely hosts on QVC but Lisa was by far my very favorite. I felt the same about Kathy Levine, too. If Lisa had not come on board them, I'm not sure I'd have kept watching back then. :)

I do own a small Chanel bag which was a gift from a woman I helped. It is truly a piece of art and I only carry it on special occasions due to the value.
I currently carry a leather Ralph Lauren zip top bag which I always use when traveling. It is safe with a lovely wide opening and fits everything for travel.
On one flight the lady across from me looked so familiar and I was pretty sure it was Betsy Johnson. She got up to use the restroom and I dug out my little BJ backpack from under the seat and sat it on my lap. When she returned she leaned over and said I love your bag. We spent the next 2 hours chatting about her designs and she was “charming” and eclectic.
