r&b bands are things of the past. Most younger people think Charlie was the STAR of the group as the lead on most songs. This was a group effort with members who many played more than one instruments and all could SING better than many solo artist today.
I was on tour with The Isley Brothers the summer of 1980 and into 1981.. GAP opened for us that year and beyond... I became good friends with Robert and Charlie and Calhoun (drummer/percussionist).... They were so much fun! Unassuming, down to earth, just regular!!!! Not stars... It felt lkike I had known these guys all my life. I'm sure you all know that feeling... Ran into Charlie at a rehearsal studio in North Hollywood... Wishing there was a way to reach Charlie... I'm missing Robert!
Jimi is a legend and he played the original solo . Miss his incredible playing as well as Robert Wilson who I feel never got his due as a fantastic bass player.
Not sure what your asking? Charlie is still going strong and is touring right now. His brother Robert passed away last year.. One of R&B music's greatest bassists..I played with The Isley Brothers from 1980 to 1986 and then from 1990 to 1992.. I am still in touch with them.. All the best
Robert Wilson literally created the 5 string bass guitar by pegging down (detuning) his 4 string bass a full octave turning his E string into a low B for this song.
@@pussyfunk-stopputtingthepu2652 He was a Facebook friend and thankfully i was able to message him while he was still alive. I told him I loved his solo on Yearning and he replied "Thanks 😊" .. 😪😪
@@mysterybat35 Yeah ... Cool ! Them guys, backing the Wilson brothers within Gap Band, seemed to be nice chaps ! (I'm able to guess they probably were, 'cause I've watched most of the interviews they did back in the 1980s, in the defunct U.S. television program "American Bandstand" with the late Dick Clark ... But I believe they were as sympathetic in private as they were in front of the cameras)

Kevin Jones I'm from Tulsa and have met Charlie on different occasions. The one thing fascinated me about him is his ability to be down to earth.
Jimi Macon was killing that fender stratocaster!!! RIP Jimi Macon
did he play the solo on the original recording on the album?

Robert Wilson literally created the 5 string bass guitar by pegging down (detuning) his 4 string bass a full octave turning his E string into a low B for this song.
Actually, it's was still an E string. Robert just tuned it down an octave which gave the song some of its character.
What's up Dino?
