This is a comprehensive critique of the 2006 Hindi film, "Rang De Basanti" as a vehicle of Communist propaganda. It follows the familiar communist template of using art, literature, poetry, drama and cinema to propagandise communism among the Indian masses.
Rang de Basanti was a huge blockbuster when it was released and acquired a semi-cult status especially among the urban Indian youth. However, its commercial success was largely because it drew a historical parallel with five revolutionary Indian fighters: Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaquallah Khan, and Shivram Rajguru and juxtaposed them with five youths of contemporary India. This parallel was achieved by twisting the facts of history and presenting the historical revolutionaries as communist heroes, which they were not.
The distortion of history is done to push a specific narrative of equating the colonial British rule of India with a constitutionally elected government of independent India.
The propaganda in Rang de Basanti thus works at multiple levels all aimed at the same goal: of advocating a violent overthrow of the Indian government.
This episode podcast gives a broad historical background of the origins and methods of communist propaganda in India and provides specific points on how these methods are used in Rang De Basanti.

Rang De Basanti was a propaganda movie which backfired. Youth went against corruption and Congress became villains in youth's eyes and we saw that happening when youths joined Anna Hazare movement in 2011 after being inspired by the movie
I was very young when I saw this movie and got very scared but didn't know why. Even as a kid, I always felt Something was very wrong and disgusting with this movie. Thanks for explaining.
Anything with Amir khan and siddharth in it take it with a grain of salt
That because he is a Turkish Agent. #Boycott_Bollywood

Was a big fan of this movie. Watched perhaps 5 times in 2006
Yeah, had seen the said Movie just once in the theater s0me 15 years back but it didn't make much of an impression. but for the technical excellence in it. First of all there was no social media making people in general so much conscious like it is today. I do remember having been an enthusiastic participant in the weekly Sunday morning slot on Star TV (forgetting the title) conducted by the same rascal, Amir Khan. But today things are different, although even today things are not really that straightforward because there is a bunch of (quite big in number) characters in this country who are easy meats for these kind of sleazy propaganda - the proof is last Parliamentary Election End Result, which was taken for a ride by just false propaganda and a minor percentage of Hindu votes added to the blessed Asmani Samudoy (Gandhi's children) who form nearly 25% of the whole Indian population and also they cast their votes religiously to only one party, which is decided by their Moulavi's - their purpose is victory for SICKULARIST's!

Rang De Basanti was loved by many people when it released and the subtle propaganda was realised much later. They cleverly hid communist propaganda by making a nationalist movie. Also the propaganda backfired as Congress was ruling when it was released and people were inspired by Rang De Basanti and supported Anna Hazare movement
Even three idiots was a mockery of the extreme hard work and dedication of iitians. The song “thoda sa jeene do” portrays the iitian deprived of any happiness in life and that they are dying for some shallow love.
The fact is that iitians are our intellectuals who make the higher choice in life to work hard. There was a subtle suggestion that iitians should stop submitting themself to a higher cause. trying to hit on indias meritocracy.
They want to make our values diluted so that we no longer excel.
I always get the Nihilist vibes from the 3 idiots movie.
@@amarkantkumar4233 absolutely!!! Subtle messaging of: Abandon pursuit of any thing meaningful (higher) and just be a worthless nitwit until some people can take over.
Just to get it out, I went to IIT Delhi through JEE. Nihilism is as prevalent as it could be in a campus next gate to JNU (right across the western boundary street). About 25% of the students taste weed, don't ask about cigarette.
Marxism used to be rife and rampant.
I felt suffocated for a long time and left ultimately. Coudln't cope
