- History writing, especially about the medieval Muslim rule has been fraught with political correctness, controversy, and in several cases, downright falsification. This has occurred mostly with official state patronage. As a result, any attempts to correct this course has been virulently opposed with the result that most urban-educated Indians have now internalized a politically correct version of Indian history.
The history of #TipuSultan too, stands as a glaring instance of this distorted historical narrative. Indeed, we have seen, read, and heard about a lot of people claiming to be freedom fighters and receiving pensions from the Government. Several of these worthies would not have been born before Independence yet they succeed in such blatant manipulations. Tipu Sultan is widely known as the Tiger of Mysore. Indeed, the image of Tipu battling a tiger barehanded crosses the mind whenever his name is mentioned. But is this the truth? Was Tipu Sultan truly the freedom fighter as he has been portrayed? What exactly is his record of fighting the British? Was he really a freedom fighter as is widely claimed? This lecture answers these questions and exposes numerous other such myths.

In Kannada text books that i studied in primary School mentions Tippu as "Mysore Tiger". I am having a bad headache thinking i studied this man as a great king in Kannada text books.

Tipus history needs to take out from our school books
Technically his rule cannot be taken out of the text books as history cannot be changed but instead children should be taught what type of a person he was and not as a freedom fighter,his tyranny etc.
Tippu always fought against British. The people of British did not like the friendship between Hindu and Muslims. So they decided to kill him. Tippu appointed seven Hindu Ministers among twelve of his minister. Moreover he gave priminister Post to a Hindu, named Poornayya. He attacked south of Karnadaka and loot there, as a part of getting wealth as other kings did. He gave financial assistance to fifty two temples under his territory. One of his living example for this is the temple of sree Rangapattana near his Palace.

In Tirupathi temple, they have a memorial dedicated to all the idols and jewels and stones that were protected during Tipu Sultan's regime. At the time, many precious temple items were sent to Tirupathi so that it wouldn't be destroyed. They only went back to those respective temples after the nonsense ended. It was Narayana's grace that kept these alive. Unfortunately he couldn't save all of them.

Thanks. All organizations of India have to come under one umbrella so that our voices can be heard. Right now, different organizations are doing their best to bring these issues to the forefront. However, the message is getting diluted. If all small organizations come under one umbrella, the efforts can be channelled more efficiently and effectively. Like, all local chapters of India come under one global organization.

Tipu sultan was hunted like a dog by the British.
He died like a dog too ?
As per guide and stories, his own relative gave away ( daga)Tipu to British. He had opened the gate for British to enter. They shot him and last place where he was shot will be seen - Srirangapatnam.
When he was shot, british rescued even the Hindu Queen who was part of his Cocubine. This is mentioned in the plate. And when British left the place, they bombed it and also his sons were captured.

But the TV serial 'The sword of Tippu Sultan' showed the Britishers to be commenting like 'He fought like a lion'.
With the help of the Indians the British defeated him. He would not be defeated had the Indians not betrayed him. He was not killed like a dog. He died a hero in the battle field fighting against the British and the hellish Indian mercenaries.Please do not be biased cos he was a muslim. I used to be angry at history books in Telangana for not mentioning atrocities of Nijam rule and his militia, Rajakars. Now comparing to the whitewashed history of Tipu sultan, I think it's better to have no history than false history.

Very fortunate that the truths hidden in history is coming out today , we have been taught false history in our CBSE (NCERT) books.Most of us born in 90 use to watch tipu sultan on DD and praise his fights for indians.
I know a friend who shared with me how their great grandparents, saraswat brahmins, left karnataka due to Tipu but ended up in Goa, where the Portuguese forced them to become Christian

👍 i grew up in a village in Kerala and Tippu is a popular name among dogs. As a child I used to wonder what makes the people name their dogs after a freedom fighter. At kochin there are still ayyer and ayyengar colonies. These are people who took refugee with us at the time of padayottam. Tippu's fanetic armey was stopped at the banks of river periyar and they were resisted by the combined army of travancore and Cochin.
Dharma Raja of Travancore (Trivandrum) stopped Tipu's army's advance with the help of the British army. Those fled from Tipu's territory mostly were collaborators with the British colonialists thus they were liable to be sentenced for treason!
South Kerala would have been littered with many Mini Malappurams and ghettos had it not been for Dharmaraja and his army. So far as the Hindus of Kerala are concerned, Tipu was no different from Abu-Bakhr Baghdadi and his satanic ISIS army.
@chesster The significant presence of Iyer and Iyenkar even now in Kodagu and Mysuru region is the concrete proof that Tipu's military action was not religiously motivated but against a fraction of them who were collaborating with the British. Should it had been religiously motivated it was not much difficult to wipe them out especially Tipu's army had a significant share of lower caste Kannadigas! *Even Tipu's (treacherous murder) was avenged by a peasant turned soldier named Lakshman who killed the collabarator Mir Sadiq immediately after the death of the great Sultan!* The spread of hatred against Tipu Sultan carried out by a fraction of Savarnna Hindus was only because Nawab Hyder Ali Khan displaced the weak King Wodayar of Mysuru and turned against the British!

We must read "Six golden epochs of Bharat s History" written by Swatantraveer Savarkar long, long ago He has given full acount of atrocities committed by Tipu, the Dog on Hindus. He has also explained why in his later life, Tipu gave donations to one or two Hindu temples . Savarkar, till his end fought for Hindurashtra and in his writings, he has warned us to throw away our differences and unite for the Hindu Cause .His one quote remains an eye-opener, " Remember, change of religion for Hindus will mean a change of nationality and culture.
