I like the concept of the $5000 bow. We need to dream about these things. This is why car manufacturers make super cars when they know they’ll only sell a small number of them and it will lose the company money. It pushes their brand and their tech making it more accessible in their normal car lines. I like Bows, Camera’s, guns, and whisky. Without the Bruichladdich’s, Lamborghini’s and Hasselblad’s we would not enjoy the items we do the way we do.

As an engineer that works in the aerospace industry and has a history in the bike industry where carbon fiber and aluminum are commonly used as well. The use of magnesium alloys have been proposed by a few companies to keep the cost similar to aluminum but with the weight reduction approaching carbon fiber. Magnesium alloy is widely used in the high end automotive industry as well and has an inherent vibration damping properties. I wish magnesium alloy was something that bow companies would look at for those reasons. Keep up the good work, Brandon. love the videos.

I loved the brainstorming. Owned an archery pro shop and watching people buy new bows was great for business but at times I knew buyer’s remorse would occur when the set up they had was superior to the “new” model year. Now that I’m back to buying equipment like the regular bow hunter I can’t see me buying a bow sooner than 3-5 years because of the actual rate of true technology changes You’re onto something in theory. Full bow innovation that would stand to the test of time is reasonable idea.

What we need is a device to attach to the bottom of the bow that has a magnetic connection to the eaths gravitational pull. So, like adding a lot of weight that self levels the bow to the horizon at the push of a button. Eliminating the need for stabilizers, a bubble, or 1, 2, and 3rd axes setup / concerns.

I really like all of your videos, but this one is by far, my favorite. I like the concept behind the $5000 bow but really enjoyed your commentary to your favorite reactions to that video. The dig on Australia had me rolling. My biggest grip for any priced bow has always been that manufacturers produce to the masses. At 6'7", I pull a 32" draw and it always seems everything is designed for everyone else. I know there are some bow makers that include an entry for us guys with gorilla arms, but the selections are limited. I am always excited to see reviews of new bows, but as soon as the Draw Length range is mentioned, most times I'm left with that empty feeling. Each year when the new hunting bows come out, I feel extremely lucky if there is 1 bow that will fit. Maybe this is the reason I have held onto the bows I have (Mathews Switchback LD, Z9, and Elite Tempo). I just wish there was more variety from which to choose for us knuckle daggers. Don't get me started on hunting clothing /footwear sizes. That's another problem....Sorry for the tangent. Really liked this video. Take care!....

Maybe a laser pointer out of a stabilizer with a yardage adjustment that served as a range finder and to show your on target. I'm not sure if a laser pointer would spook a deer 🤔.

The best response I’ve ever seen:
Get a crossbow. “NO, we’re working on innovations for people who haven’t given up on life yet!”
I am so for regulating crossbows to be used by youth and hunters with injuries. Having an injury was the only legal means of taking game with a crossbow in my state. Had to carry a doctor’s note on your person. I miss that regulation!
I do have the same question that has already been asked. Where do we step over the line and improve the gear to the point it is no longer considered archery equipment? We start pushing into the crossbow category of equipment?

The last part of the last comment is very true. People DO think they can buy accuracy by buying the most expensive product. They say things like "form doesn't matter because you won't shoot that way when you're hunting". They pay no heed to proper shot execution. They grab the bow, flinch, hammer the trigger, and jerk their arm up all at the same time. But they have the nicest shit in archery.
Now don't get me wrong. I believe you get what you pay for. Becoming a better archer maximizes those expensive, high tech products. Like Aaron snider says "if you can't hit a stop sign at 40 you have bigger problems than the brand of your bow".

I got way too excited that you read my servo limb bolt tightening comment XD. I stole that idea (partially) from the original Gears of War. There's a weapon called the Torque Bow. The longer you aim the bow, the more powerful your shot is. But I've had this idea for a while, and I really don't this it would be that hard to make. I am not an engineer, just a humble machinist and cnc programmer.

Custom rifles are typically built from the ground up so it’s time bow manufacturers start.
With the success of in line accessories and bridge lock technology we should soon be able to order a “custom” bow and have the sight mount and rest built directly into the riser. Companies could offer a universal mounting bracket for the actual sight.
But let’s go a step farther using computer programming. When ordering your custom bow and choosing the sight, rest, and quiver. Including the number of arrows and weight of them. Run the program that would find the exact balancing point of the bow so it would tell you the exact length and weight of stabilizers you need, an once again build them directly into the riser.
All the technology is there to start offering these “custom” bows.

Most comments from the last 2 video threads about more $$ added to a bow setup is why I decided to change months b4 2023 kicked in. My change is all about 1 thing. Becoming the best high tech minimalist that I can be. I've already done that over the last few years but not to the extent of becoming full measure. I've done the long bike ride in & sometimes with a cart, a couple of different saddles b4 finding a 3rd which is 💯 & several different climbing ropes to avoid bringing extra metal into the woods 🤔. So I'm ordering a new set of limbs for my takedown recurve. My custom recurve is made by G. Fred Asbell & it had 65 lb. limbs that I'm going to replace with a more suitable, lighter pair. Just looking to please the universe with more balance. If u look @ the time I wrote this u will notice that I'm taking the phrase 'early to bed, early to rise' more literally than most.
P.S. If & when I shoot the next Rompola buck that can be verified with X-ray equipment on public or state land I will send u the video. That way I know that your endorsement & street cred will stand for more than any entity that currently exists.

With hand torque being such a big issue I would think many archers could benefit from a torque reducing grip that pivots freely the necessary degrees in both a vertical and horizontal axis. That way the pressure from your hand would be applied to a single point on the riser. Something like a ball and socket joint perhaps.

Bows from the past have already hit today's speeds, were actually lighter and have been tested to show less vibration. But it definitely makes sense. More parts = more weight and more problems. I don't like how the industry has pushed consumers to feel like they need new rigs every year. Some manufacturers are finally keep a ow around for a couple years and improving tunability and shootability. Again, each person can only draw so much weight, has a specific draw length and either want a comfortable draw curve or performance draw curve. Anatomy is dictating how fast and far one can shoot ultimately. Once folks get over "what's the best bow" issue and realize the shooter dictates that, folks might not suffer from buyers remorse so much. Shoot what fits your stature, what feels correct to you and what you wallet can handle. It's archery, it's supposed to be fun. Well, once you get over the sticker shock lol

I said a battery-powered hand warmer grip and it was only $100 more... saved you $3800, or $2500 if it's a Mathews with stabilizers... not one mention. 🤣🤣🤣 This was a great video. I like the outside-the-box thinking, and it's cheaper than buying 12 bows to review

Dear mr. McDonald first off I like to commend you on your cigar and drink, I'm not an engineer or a rocket scientist but I have been shooting a bow for about 35 years, I've also played a lot of sports that I really thought would be my niche in life and I put everything I had into every sport , archery is the last sport i well ever do so I put all my heart and soul into shooting the best that I can I've taken I've taken input from other good archers and Incorporated it into my practice and over the years I've become a pretty good Archer bought my last bow 3 years ago it was the Mathews vxr 28 in. My belief is that the archery industry has hit the Pinnacle of what a compound bow can do so having said all that my best advice to anyone who thinks that buying a $5,000 bow is going to make them a better shot they should remember this quote from a very wise man who said it's not the arrow it's the Indian.

I think Titanium is the key. Sit on a Ti bicycle for thousands of miles a year vs aluminum and carbon and you will develope a certain appreciation. My Ti Single Speed and Ti road bike are hands down been my favorite. I can imagine a Ti bow would be awesome, especially left bare and in painted.

A Ti bow covered with a cerakote finish would be cool. That way it would be more functional. After reading all the comments I think the practical platform with this is if it was made in the recurve format. U would still be able to reach the 5K price tag & it would hold up better over time due to the physics involved with compounds.

@@deanbrantley Yes, it would be as far as a target bow goes. I have 2 bikes made by the huge company Giant. One is a road bike called the Anyroad. The other is a fat-tire bike. The road bike is all aluminum & carbon & I left it as it is. But I switched seats on both bikes cuz of functional reasons. The fat-tire bike I camo painted & it really helped hide the large profile. I use them both for bowhunting. One of them has the attachment for my Burley bike cart that I also camo'ed out!

Your thought process is definitely feasible. But, bowhunterplanet seems to be the first ones looking into things. As in, maybe the pinnacle has been hit and now manufacturers have to find new innovations to keep folks itching for the next new thing. Channels have began to compare bows from the past with the performance of today's rigs. I definitely feel that the knowledge the perfect geometry isn't being advertised to keep folks blind to the obvious. The human body can only handle so much poundage, has a certain draw length and has specific desire for speed or comfort

I find it funny that everyone is attacking form and practice. That’s the same bs as saying ,well if I want a Lamborghini I need practice driving more ,jackasses the whole lot of them . As a bow tech I agree, my statement still stands from my last comment on the last video ,Because innovative is something that we all strive for .look 5 years ago then 10 then 15 then 20 years ago things changed dramatically ,but here’s the key point that I like about your first video , someone back in the 2000s started with an idea of , what if we can make it were I can carry a phone with me every where I go , then with bows ,what can I do to make this bow faster ,then it was smoother , lighter etc . I digress , now speaking on features on said $5000 bow , you seemed to like a range finder bow sight built in to the bow I think I could be projected like the hud on a new Chevy or gmc , then when it comes to a grip what if it’s a type of memory foam makeup where it shapes to your grip at full draw to have a starting point so to speak were you can tell if your grip is out of form .

IMO that last comment wasn't that bad. Also, some of the things you are talking about are portions of the current high brow rifle competions. Rangefinder signs, stocks with buffers built in for "recoil" dampening, lightweight materials.
Seems like a lot of those ideas transfer.

The idea about increasing draw weight after achieving full draw was genius. Your video engendered some fantastic ideas - well done. My brother is genius-adjacent and I am gonna text him that idea and see what he thinks. Excellent video - very thought-provoking. Another thought - create a machine either within the cam or riser that propels the arrow like the catapult does on an aircraft carrier. Thanks again for great content.

Just do some research.. Bow companies use to experiment quite a bit in the old days.. The original Ben Pearson Advantage had something called draw assist so what would happen is you'll draw back 60# but when you let down, you let down 90#..Hoyt use to make magnesium risers back in the day.. There where a ton of wacky stuff going on during the 80s and 90s.

To go with your sight idea, could you not just have a laser that came from the front of the riser and kind of projected a dot...and maybe integrate that into a clarification Lens that advances the image?

    • @brandonmcdonald6121
      @brandonmcdonald6121  Рік тому +1

Integrating the site and riser the more I think of it wouldn’t be that hard. And the clearance (range) you could get would be massive. Probably less stable though. Electronic dot could also auto adjust based on brightness.
