- To my great sadness, on December 1st 2020
Hugh Keays-Byrne was take from this existence. He was a great actor who inspired my youth and with this tribute to my favorite character of his, I hope his memory lives on and inspires the future youth to seek out his work to enjoy and learn from. Rest in peace Hugh where ever you are.

RIP Hugh. Definitely the best of the MM "villains". He made the Toecutter a real person for me.

Absolutely the other side of the coin from Max, I couldn't imagine the film with anyone else. The perfect antagonist.

Hugh was absolutely fantastic & will be sorely missed. In my opinion he was the highlight of the first Mad Max film. Love the scene when he does the Scottish accent then goes back to being a pome in a threatening manner. Rest in peace sir & sleep well.
"Jesse Jesse ya got no sense of humor, but a pretty face though" . I think my favorite part is his relationship with Bubba, the dynamic they have of the ideological power house and the deep thinker working together. lightening in a bottle friend

@@donaldduck7461 The smile on Toecutters face was priceless, if he could purr I think he would have. I suspect sometimes that Bubba was supposed to be the new Night rider at one time, but Johnny boy leapfrogged over him because he had "more to offer" in the relationship.
@@voltage3d469 This is what annoys me with Hollywood, I know Hugh was a Pom but Oz cinema knocks spots off the current climate of overrated actors/actresses. Max Phipps from Mad Max 2 was a superb Aussie actor that never gets any praise.
@@donaldduck7461 Also lets not forget Vernon Wells, albeit he did expand his carrier in cinema, it was not to the extent he deserved. I'm just thankful to have known and lived in a era of good cinema. Hollywood is trash, I say let it burn.

Iam very thankful for this tribute to Hugh..Its well done especially the end .. didn't realize it how much a great villian he protryed until he passed away..I was actually very depressed upon hearing of his death..RIP...LONG MAY YOU RIDE!!

Ohh, so sad to hear of this. As good of a hero as Max was, Toecutter was as a villian. At least he got to play Immortan Joe for us in the new movie, (however you may feel about that movie). I thought it was great that he got to play in the Mad Max universe once again. RIP Hugh, and thank you for all the good work.

In MAD MAX1 he played the villain fantastically to such an extent that no hardened criminal in real life looked like him in the movie !!!! Hugh Keays-Byrne Best Actor, Biker !!!!! I will have a memory through the film of this legend for the rest of my life !!

Wow thank you for posting this even though you just ruined my Friday and probably the rest of my weekend what a fantastic movie in an earlier post on one of the mad Max clips I eagerly wrote at 58 I no longer need them so I would gladly give my left or right nut to touch or even get behind one of the wheels of those cars it goes without saying I would have eagerly given up either one to meet the cast of this movie I'm here in America what I would like to know maybe somebody can list some of his other movies so we can all check them out rest in peace sir 😭😖

I have it on good authority from Bubba Zanetti....that a super nice guy and great actor is gone...RIP Hugh....great job in a great movie! And thought it was total class he paid so much tribute to the the stuntman and the wicked dangers they had to face making that movie.
They just played Mad Max on TV the other night. I watched it again as it's a good film. RIP Hugh, the movie would not be the same without your villain.

@@voltage3d469 oh man your going to be in for a treat, the movie is about a motor cycle gang lead by Hugh Keays-Byrne character it's just like MAD MAX I thought about re editing it and making it a prequel. Check it out and let me know your thoughts it's cool when a MadMax fan sees it for the first time

Man, he was one scary dude in the original Mad Max.
He nailed that role, I can't think of anyone who was able to replicate his attitude and eccentricities as the Toecutter.
@@voltage3d469 The actor who played Johnny the Boy (Tim Burns) said he went over to intro himself to Hugh on set who was dressed up and he grabbed Tim by his face/head and said...nooo....you are Johnny the Boy!!!! LOL....what a first day on the set!

@@voltage3d469 On here there is a video of a reunion where they had all of the main guys but for Mel. Even Mudguts were there. But they were talking about the movie and I believe Tim also talked about it there. Goose was hilarious over the Top Gun remark and him calling Johnny the Boy as Toe Cutters rent boy....LOL.
