  • Recumbent trikes have a bunch of different advantages over a traditional bike. Their main attraction is the ability to distribute weight evenly and removing the pressure points on the wrists, shoulders and butt compared to a regular bike.

Exactly, I just got my 4th trike has a mid drive motor.just love it. You can get as much exercise as you want because when you reach your limit the motor will help get you get back or up those steep body killing hills. it’s just more enjoyable. Never go back to a regular bike now. You right about the recumbent two wheel about tipping over. I ended up putting a hub motor on that. 3 wheel is the way to go

Hi. You hit the nail on the head with the benefits of a recumbent trike. We have had Greenspeed Magnums for about three years and love them.. we ride six days a week and during Covid they have been great to get exercise and fresh air, see other people and buy a coffee. We usually ride about 20-30 k each day. I have had electrics with a throttle put on mine and that was the best decision out. Now I can keep up with my husband who is a stronger rider, and go places I shyed away from before. No hill daunts me now. If only more people would TRY a trike. Most would be hooked. O. Another from Atherton Queensland Australia. Greetings.

I just got a Mobo Triton Pro for my 58th birthday 🎂 at 1/10th the cost of the ICE Trike I was promising myself at retirement. I absolutely love it.. SO much fun!!! It’s great to be back in motion! (And already having a positive effect on my attitude while coping with Covid, mental health issues and Fibromyalgia 🌟) Have you seen them? Have an opinion? I can’t help but think it’s the perfect entry bike for those who think cruising is the right activity for them but aren’t ready for the financial commitment of a pricier model... it’s like a grown up big wheel ! 😁😂🤣

I just bought my Catrike Villager. I absolutely Love it!! The only down side ..is riding on a gravel bike path. OUCH. It can be a really horrible vibration in some spots along the trail, so I'm getting a little more brave and riding on the back country roads. I'm so amazed how easy it is to climb up hills. Just wish it came in a different color other than the Moon Rock grey. Kinda boring..

The 559 is a great everyday bike trail rider. I would also check with your state laws for max wattage on a trail, I know California is 750 max. On a hub system most people use 350-500 watts, and on a mid drive 250 is most common and works great since it uses the gearing of you trike.

What do you do with your old bikes? I am a partially paralyzed former Firefighter/EMT amd I need a recumbent trike to get exercise. I cant work and I can't ride a traditional bike because of the fall risk. I am honestly kinda desperate at this point, my health is deteriorating without the exercise and my physical therapy just tries to keep me loose while tightening me core at this point. I really need this EXACT trike with the pedal assist.

I bought my first recumbent trike, The Villager, by Catrike less than 2 weeks ago in a local very helpful bike shop. I’m having trouble learning to shift (30) gears correctly 🤪 I’m almost 73 yo grandma. Had to return it to shop for free repair and more instructions bc I twisted chain changing gears going up a hill too quickly. They said it’s a learning curve. Have you done a video on learning to change gears correctly and incorrectly. Feeling discouraged about learning bc I LOVE riding my Trike!!! I’ve watched n read a lot but nothing about difficulty I’m having. Thanks for any suggestions!!

I hope you've figured out your shifting by now! But if you haven't, or for others who have the same question, I'll try to help.
I'm assuming your trike has external gearing. That means that there are derailleurs near the front chainrings and rear cluster of gears on the back wheel. When shifting to a different gear, you want to reduce the pressure you are putting on the pedals but continue to pedal to keep the chain moving until you complete the shift. You'll hear the chain move with the derailleuer onto the new gear and you will feel the change in your legs. Now add pressure to the pedals again. Change gears often as needed to maintain a steady effort.

Great video. I have a question about shoes and clips. I ordered my bike from out of state and never had it adjusted to my body it is currently at the shop getting a tune up and then I will get it adjusted to me. Clip shoes and the cleats are in the furthest back position and the ball of my foot but my feet get sore after ridding. What could I die to help with this? Socks, mid cleats, adjust the boom?

Easy answer. Go to amazon and buy calf height padded compression socks. They are the greatest. I ride 150 miles per week on a Catrike 559 and a Catrike Trail wearing clip in shoes. They are about $4-5 per pair. The best money you can spend. I play a lot of golf and walk with a pushcart and wear them also for golf. Compression socks are just fabulous. Get the padded version

With an electric trikeor quadcan what is the maximum speed that you can go? I'm looking at doing some bikejoring with a Malinois / Dutch Shepherd mix dog and I don't want the bike, trike or quad holdingback the dog when he is running. Also I'm in my mid 60's and I have a neurological illness that affects my balance and I have Tremors, sometimes affecting hands, legs and head so the having multiple wheels is attractive. I would like to know how I can get a unit and matched to my size 6'4" and weight 265 lbs and have a good attachment for the dog to be hooked up without the bike going into a nose dive or prevent from tipping or falling over. Looking forward to your response.

Hi John, thanks for the question. Electric assist will apply power up to 20 mph in order to qualify for being legal on the bike trails. However, the trike itself can go faster than 20 mph, but the motor will not be applying power at that point.

Great video Mickey, thank you for sharing this. I’ve been intrigued and lightly researching recumbent trikes for about a year now. I’m curious what you’d recommend for my situation… especially since you help veterans!
I’m a late 40s, overweight mom of three. My legs have always been the strongest part of my body. I have a desk job and occasional back pain. For these reasons I’ve been attracted to the idea of a recumbent trike… for pleasure and exercise.
Where I’m unique (or a “weird” case) is I have a 10yr old severe special needs daughter. She has significant intellectual disability. She’s nonverbal and would definitely have no idea how to pedal… or that concept. But I’m certain she’d love to ride along with me!!!
So I’ve been looking for a recumbent trike that has a rack behind the main seat, above the rear wheel, that could support a child’s bike seat. She’s so tiny she still fits in infant swings so her seat need not be very large… her seat would need to be high enough so her legs don’t dangle/hit the ground.
Is there anything out there like this? I’ve seen tandems but they’re all dual pedaling. Thank you for your time and insights!

    • @LaidBackCycles
      @LaidBackCycles  2 роки тому +1

Sounds like a recumbent trike would be a great solution for you! I haven't come across any trike-specific child seats but the functionality would be the same so there is opportunity to adapt one to your trike. I use a something like a Burley Bee Trailer to bring my grandchildren around with me on rides and they love it - that may be a great option as well.

I have ridden a DF road bike for over 50 years and have logged thousands of miles. I am 73 years old now and had my right knee replacement surgery last December. The pain was simply too much to endure and riding was not fun anymore. I reluctantly bought an upright ebike and it’s been wonderful. I only use level 1 e-assist for a little help. I still have to pedal. This ebike has enabled me to continue riding. Now I am looking at lower back surgery due to arthritis and I am seriously considering an e-assist recumbent trike.
