    That grin is known as "The recumbent grin" it never goes away.
    Another cool thing about recumbent trikes is when you stop you've always got a comfortable seat handy, so you can have a nice cup of tea anywhere.

    Here in the UK, my wife and I have ridden trikes for two years now and completely agree with all the positive points made in this video, which is by far the most informative (and enthusiastic) one I have seen so far. It’s going to be the one we recommended to anyone who takes an interest. People are always asking us about them, I always tell people of the grin my wife had after I managed to persuade her to have a go on one, she was very reluctant at first, but now absolutely loves it. The video has persuaded us to try and start up a group here in the north west. We only wish we had your weather!

    That was excellent, Serafina! You did a great job of getting people to open up & share their stories and introduced me to a part of cycling I knew nothing about. It also gave my mood a lift seeing how happy you looked riding the trikes. Very interesting and informative, as usual. Great to see that there's life after 2 wheel cycling and I'll bet Ray will be busy for a few weeks giving people a feel for this "new" version of cycling. Always so good to get outside and do something and this opens a new world for people that have difficulty walking or 2 wheeling.

Its great you made this video on tricking , Serafina, I don't see too many trikes on the road and this video will surely highlight this fun way of cycling and increase its popularity. Who knows, we may even see future Serafina videos on her new trike? The new Gawler to Barossa cycle track should be ideal on a trike too. It's interesting isn't it, many people (including me) assume it's going to be more dangerous, but it's actually the opposite, and I think that's one of the biggest misconceptions of riding a recumbent. Perhaps I need to do a video riding on roads, rather than bike paths, to show this 😊

    Many "Bent riders" (Something many recumbent riders use to refer to themselves) that I have met or seen in videos have made the joke "Riding a recumbent makes you smile" as they almost always have a smile or grin as they ride. Some bent riders that I have met have also teased "Roadies" (What many call regular upright bikes and riders) about how comfortable the recumbent is.
    Glad you had fun riding with what looks like a very fun group of riders.

    Great video Serafina. Ray is one of life's gentlemen and has helped so many get more out of life with a recumbent trike. I was introduced to them, by Ray, 6 years ago after a motorcycle accident when I couldn't ride my upright. My wife and I went and test rode some trikes and enjoyed it so much that we had to buy two. We still ride upright bikes but triking has added another dimension to our cycling. Now we wouldn't be without them and have taken them all over the country with us. ua-cam.com/video/A4_6qEk3BKk/v-deo.html

    A lot of fun!
    All sorts of different configurations and ways to travel -- and it's great for your health as a bonus (and on the environment, urban design & maintenance, and flow-on effects).
    In this case we got to see the very enjoyable social aspect of riding, and the community around recumbents :)
    Providing adequate infrastructure so that all people can experience and have the opportunity and choice to use these modes safely is an Australian value (fair dinkum, accessible, active community), so, we should do that!
    Maybe we'll get some national political action, to follow the expert and exampled advice for all-ages-&-abilities accessible design?

    • @CyclewithSerafina
      @CyclewithSerafina  2 роки тому

      Soo much fun! 🥳 and all really good points you've raised. I can see these changes happening here in South Australia, slowly in some cases, but definitely happening. I think the big key is to have more people cycling and adding their voice when it's election time. We're still very car dependent, so the majority of votes (therefore funding) goes to motor vehicle infrastructure. We're on the right track though, social change never happens fast enough unfortunately! 🚴‍♂️🚴💗

    • @betula2137
      @betula2137 2 роки тому

      @@CyclewithSerafina The fact that social change happens at all is promising!
      The most important thing can indeed just be political will, or eventually everything in conjunction.
      Australia is known for some of the most perplexingly malformed urban design, which hampers quality of life, so change really helps everyone -- and debunks common arguments against providing for alternative modes, simply because we fear we may lose something. Luckily, this is part of the change, and urban experts have been finally getting to governments in the last decade or two -- when people actually see the benefits, sentiment changes in favour of whoever did action.
      Canberra.Bike describes the phenomenon as a "flywheel", along with all the comprehensive aspects of it, with reference to the key success example, the Netherlands (you see so many recumbents, trikes, hand-cycles, cargos, etc. over there, including on rural paths and in cities which offer many benefits which the countryside does as the Bruntletts describe too!).
      The success includes reducing isolation, aiding freedom (which is why the children are happiest in the world, much happier compared to Australia), and reducing all the banes of car dependency on economic and health factors (as well as congestion, stress, and other woes, which makes it the best country for drivers too! Win-win!)
      Anyway, that was my spiel...
      Basically, design good for happiness! :)
      Perth actually took inspiration from NL, which is why it has a network of red-asphalt PSPs, and is developing a good rail-bike symbiosis. Here in nipaluna the Greater city plan is fabulous, and completely on-board (we the people just have to see it in action..!)
      I'm not sure what's happening in Adelaide -- is it similar to Melbourne or Sydney, where CBD "Copenhagen-style" are being made, as well as some broader (but as yet not practical or holistic enough, without woonerven or sustainable safety) networks?
      I think it has a lot of opportunity with its particular urban design as well as geography -- I've recently seen the ARM station and riverfront thing, which looks neat, as well as some pretty landmarks like the library and those two clock-towers, but I haven't actually visited! I really love the confluence of the Eyre, Murray, and Flinders systems, as well as the great motion into the spiritual 'heart' of the continent and the Artesian Basin (just in general).
      Anyways -- it was just NAIDOC week, and it was nice to see the Aboriginal flag being flown, which fits in much better with the environment (and doesn't show the banner of a younger country who invaded this ancient land once upon a time...)
      -- wrong tangent to get into, I'm sorry! I just feel like I have to 'input, input, input' without end
      Bye :)

    • @CyclewithSerafina
      @CyclewithSerafina  2 роки тому +1

      @@betula2137 I agree with all of this, we think/feel very much the same. I lived in the Netherlands for a year, their cycling infrastucture, public transport, and social quality of life is some of the best in the world I've seen. I lived a few months in Japan, very similar to the Netherlands, but in Japan, you don't even have to lock your bike up! no one will steal it! We are definitely heading in the right direction, these other countries just have more of a head start than us, Australia is still a relatively young country in regards to population, infrastructure, and economy. We are very lucky to have these other countries to observe and learn from 😃🚴‍♀
