40+ years in the commercial wireless data industry, You had it right. They are referred to as a COW (Cell On Wheels) they are usually used to provide extra capacity for special events like the super bowl or natural disasters, but not limited to that like what you see, the seasonal needs in Quartzite.
Hi David, I’m glad you were able to get your new smaller Star Link to work for you! Hopefully now your UA-cam work will go much faster!! I wish I could reach through my phone and give Lefty a big hug! 🤗 He is such a Love-Bug!! I Hope all is going well for both of you. Take care and keep each other safe. 💕 LeeAnn 🌸
Hi David and CEO Lefty..Love your interaction and the love between you two. I tell you David, Lefty has to be included in everything👍 he is just like my granddog Pitbull Mila and both are great communicators. Safe travels💕🐕
Really cool your super setup getting better and better in your fantastic ambulance RV. Super what Chris created for you with his 3D printer. A great moment I had to have met you, Lefty and Chris. My Starlink mini is working great here at this BLM. I had it outside strongly bungeed to a table bungeed to my truck camper but now with the really strong winds since yesterday until tomorrow afternoon I put it inside my truck dash connected directly to my BLUETTI AC200L. Works great. Yesterday I bought a water bladder, a water pump, a switch and a fuse connector which is required. I plan to connect all this so i like those connectors that you show that connect 2 wires solidly. I have my truck camper off the truck bed so i can get around quickly just with my truck and use the water bladder to fill up at the pit stop and come back with 40 gallons in the 40 gallon water bladder to have more water and pump the water into my small 13 gallon internal water container. Can take more showers and be less worried about running out of water. My handyman neighbour Al will help me tomorrow. Cool. So id like to go to the hardware store and get those good wire connectors. Works great. When i drove to Parker i had my Starlink mini working great when driving while streaming my Apple Music and UA-cam videos.
Your electrical work is second to none. You are so good at taking care of your rig. Give Lefty a hug and kiss for me. Take care, it's 25° outside, and we're waiting for the winter storm to hit tonight in North Carolina. I actually hope we do get some snow. Both the kids that live in Ky have a lot of snow, and we're just getting the cold and rain. Stay safe and warm.
I'm in Aberdeen NC very cold for us, but that snow predicted is not here yet. Sur hop i wake up to a foot of it because I wouldn't mind sleeping in tomorrow morning..
I have 2 of them auto wire strippers and they are great! I had one at work, then i found and bought a older one in a case with multiple wire jaw fittings for $5 at an estate sale! For home use. They are great in tight places as you only need one hand and with no pulling and banging your hand!
I really like your channel David and Lefty. So much information. I’m on UA-cam all day ( except for 15 minutes in the morning for local weather). I used to watch another channel that I liked but she kept diving into politics and her hate for one party or men in general. That’s the only negative channel, the rest I like and especially your channel. Thank you
I'm impressed. I have no idea what you're talking about. Compared to me, you are a wonderously tech-savvy genius. I grew up in the '60s in southern California, in the desert north of Los Angeles. We had those jets booming over our house every day. Later, when I lived in San Francisco, the Blue Angels would trigger me during Fleet Week every October.
You know 97% of the time I don't understand the technical stuff David talks about but I could listen to him explain a "telephone book" because his voice is so calming. Then of course Lefty is so vocal and funny. They are the perfect pair to help a person relax. 😊
Hi David, I have a pair of wire strippers you mentioned. They work great, mine are made in USA Blue Point. I've had these in my work tool box since the early 80s‼️🇺🇸
I broke down and got self adjusting wire strippers from Amazon for less than $20 (Kaiweets) and they were well worth the money. I was also in Quartzite recently for just over a month (had to come back east last week) with the Starlink Mini. I replaced the AC/50' cord and got a 16' USB C 100w PD cord. I'm still using it on the dash until I can fix it permanently to the roof of my minivan but since it will be within reach I want to make sure it's secure.
21:55 yes. I install a ton of auto electrical/solar and have the auto strips. I also have a manual similar to yours. Every tool has its own purpose. The autos don’t bite smaller gauge wire well and often take the conductor with the insulation. Best for 16 or thicker
2 simple comments: first, get a set of "step drill bits". Excellent to drill holes with 1 drill bit that size from 1/8" to 1" using only one bit! Next, install that range extender on the roof, suspended just an inch or 2 right on the edge of your roof, above the door, so when you are recording or sending you get the optimal "side signal" from where you are relaxing anyway. Love the vids, look forward to each one😂
Hello David and Lefty. I have a cheap automatic wire stripper from Hobo Freight and it works great. I've used it through my whole bus build and it's still holding up fine. I think it was less than 20 bucks
Happy new year David and Lefty. As usual another clean install. Starlink is a real game changer. As for Chris's 3d printer, that is just too dang cool.
I have not used it, but another UA-camr swears by homefi and that's what I will probably go with when I start traveling this year. It's much cheaper as far as I can see and way cheaper to start.
OK David. I am seriously considering a visit to Quartzsite. I am planning a four week visit with my small Yaris. Super super basic. From here in New Hampshire. Mbe Feb 10 to March 10. Mbe earlier. I would like to have an electric bike too. Probably not till 2026. But the tech is all part of this. Starlink. Absolutely. You offer a most excellent step by step. Not able to do the Patreon yet. We shall see. My taxes are tying me down and maybe gonna be able to sell the Real Estate and downsize maybe as much as a storage space arrangement. Here in New Hampshire. Maybe move to New York. I like Ithaca. And so On and On and On. Wow. Thank you so much for all of this. You communicate so well. Just great! 〰✨🌿👍🌿✨〰
When many users are on at the same time, some companies will throttle back on the speed to prevent wear & tear on equipment. It's not always the number of users to slow reception down.
Nice install (although I never favor holes in my roof). I didn't see where you sealed the mounting screws and nutserts? Some 3M 5200 adhesive sealant would keep the rain out.
Thank you Dave for your installation and results info . Looking forward to getting our Starlink. Yes we're getting bad winds here in NM. Have to put up a new flag tomorrow. Winds just rip up the flags like crazy. Be safe and big hugs to Lefty. 🤗🐾
I have a pair of those wire strippers and they work great. First time people see me use them their reaction is always the same and they want some. Huh?---One project a day. I heard that from someone recently. Great job on the Starlink. Do those connectors also have the glue? Those are awesome.
Thank you…I’m driving out later tonight , the winds have subsided. You reminded me to grab a baseball cap and my portable dvd player…..movie time when Wi-Fi is jammed. 😊🇺🇸
Kool beans that your friend made that mount for you, hope he didn’t print it in PLA, the heat will do it in after time. Have a Bambu Lab P1S w/ 4 AMS units in my ClassC, fun hobby.
Hi David, and Lefty. I didn't see you do it, but I was wondering if you should have put something like butyl tape under the triangles used for the star link. Also, should you have put sealant on the bolts to prevent water seepage. I was just curios, if this needs to be done.
Maybe you can put the wiring that's on the back of the rig through a little hole to the interior through the back doors, so no one touches the wires and steals them.
My husband has used the auto stripper on wiring house outlets. You were correct they are very nice if have a lot of stripping to do. Expensive he said. He works at an electrical supply company so he borrowed it.
Quartzite has internet in two places. By the Quartzite library and Laposa South. If you are a member of the Quartzite Ameratuer Radio club their is access to free internet for radio club members. One of their members who visits Quartzite every Jaury bought the radio tower in Tyson Wells by the old tank for the club. They have installed an outside WiFi antenna crating a WiFi hot spot pointed at LaPosa South BLM land. They also have a couple of Ameratuer radio repeaters that cover downtown Quartzite. Just another option.
I have a two types of those wire strippers you mentioned…one with different size slots for verious wire gauges and one that can strip multiple wires at once like ribbon cable for example…have had them for years, used them probably hundreds of times to strip ribbon cable to connect 100s of addressable LEDs for burning man art piece projects. I first used them back in the 80s working on prototype electronics projects for the Air Force. Love both types.
Hey David, have you ever had a problem not camping close to the vault toilets in quartzite? Can a portable grey water/black water tank be used instead of them actually being permanently affixed to the rig? I’d prefer to just have a compost style toilet, or bag and dispose system, responsibly of course. Can you camp away from the vault toilet areas without hassle.?
@@TheCampulanceMan huh, you’re in an LTVA right? Some say it’s an outdated rule, just wondered if the rangers bothered anyone. It’s in the rules for AZ LTVA’s and some require to be fully self contained and other areas allow dispersed camping if non self contained as long as you’re within 500 feet of a vault toilet like at La Posa Tyson wash. www.blm.gov/sites/default/files/documents/files/LTVASupplementaryRules.pdf It’s right in the middle of these supplementary rules, 16. Dumping And 17. Self contained vehicles.
I have the worst service at my home. We have Spectrum, and I can't walk through my house without losing a call every time. So I have to sit and not move when anyone calls. Lol
David I’m not sure but did you mentioned if the Starlink panel you have is the mini, it looks like it. About the cracked bezel, I’ll bet every time you look at it that tiny crack reminds you of your daughter - cherish that small but very significant memory (I’m sure you do). Simply from one dad to another that wishes daily for those moments again.
IHave a set of Klein auto strippers and they work good. But have to be careful with very thing wire, sometimes they break a few strands of wire when stripping, but other than that, they work geeat.
Hi David - 3D printing came along toward the end of my engineering career and it was a game changer. Great for prototyping. I got a printer and play around designing and printing things to fix or improve stuff around the house. I am sure your friend knows this, but just in case... Many of the popular materials for 3D printing are not good for being outside in the sun. Not too many plastics are really, but some are better than others. It's something to look into and keep an eye on. I am sure you don't need another expensive thing flying off your roof on the interstate. :) Big game this weekend...Go Bills!
@@TheCampulanceMan I used PETG for a drink holder on my golf cart and its held up well so far. A little more sun on a roof in Arizona than on a golf push cart in NY though. LOL
I think it was Moochie which is much more fitting for a dog. Have you met Kevin Loughin "The Old Ham Guy"? He camps at Quartzsite and has a similar YT channel focusing on HAM radio and other tech stuff. Nice video. Thanks
This might not work for everyone. The Starlink mini works through the roof of our motorhome. By chance I put the mini between the slideout valance and the ceiling and plugged it in. It connected just fine. Now, the roof on our RV is fiberglass and the mini seems to be able to connect to the satellites, at least it worked for us while we were in Lake Havasu Resort. I hope it will work the next time we go somewhere so I don't have to put the mini outside in the weather. Hope this helps the next person out there.
You need a label maker the soft tape kind so you can label your lines, also hope the smoke from the fires don't affect you all in Quartzite, it sure looks bad! edited to add we lived for years at a testing base so sonic booms multiple times a day, surprisingly our dogs where all used to it. Only issue we ever had was a shattered sliding door from the sonic booms. Enjoy your daily air shows
Fastnet is in quartzite They service mobile units They are on a monthly basis You may have a set up charge but you can renew your service when you return. If you have receptivity issues next year just ask them to update your air cube router The company is just a couple of years old and ran by wonderful people. Fastnet on the main drag near the roadrunner market
In the early years of Starlink and they had limited satellites, aiming was critical but now they have added hundreds more if not thousands, then it’s not as critical if that
How much they charging you per month for SL? How much initial cost? I am using inseego mifi with verizon... its only about $20 add on to cell phone bill.... i think we pass your van when we go to town (that area is filling up)... if you head east about 7 miles over mountain you get better cell as you switch towers (more available ports) good camping but farther from town.
It's $165/month for unlimited or $50/month for 50GB. You can also opt in to pay $1 per GB over 50. At this time Starlink Mini is $599, however they just had a sale for $150 off. I opened a Home Depot credit card and got an additional $50 and 12 months to pay interest free. The standard Starlink is only $349 but is larger and uses quite a bit more power. Of course, the best part of Starlink is you can get it anywhere, except for perhaps under deep tree cover which is probably why they provide a 50' cord.
Hi David, from your lesbian Rochester friend, retired activity director, still in Baja watching you from San Felipe. Im glad I got to camp 47 states and travel Europe and the Carribbean before my back stopped functioning. Life on a beach house for $400 a month suits my budget. San Felipe has a camping spot for ya any time. Except now...little cartel war going on at night. Enough camo and long guns to make me think I'm in Gaza...but Europe after 9-11 when I went with a train pass looked similar, and the cartel isn;t after a hippy gringa doing charity with mexican kids and seniors. On my SS check, I bought shoes, bikes and toys for 20 kids this christmas. Me and 1 other dude from NY. Im the only Jew in the county of Baja...Peace
I hate to say it, “It’s quartzite, you get what you pay for.” As 7 years as a Nomad, I’ve had no problem with the cost of our Starlink after suffering so long with poor cell coverage and laughable WiFi.
I believe the roaming starlink has a built in router. If so you could give a guest password to the friend that made your brackets as a thank you. Just an idea. SR

Many of the popular materials for 3D printing are not good for being outside in the sun. Not too many plastics are really, but some are better than others. It's something to look into and keep an eye on. I am sure you don't need another expensive thing flying off your roof on the interstate. :) Big game this weekend...Go Bills!
We used the PETG for the corner stands until he can print ABS with his new printer (as soon as I egg him into buying it) :) and GO BILLS!!!
@@TheCampulanceMan I used PETG for a drink holder on my golf cart and its held up well so far. A little more sun on a roof in Arizona than on a golf push cart in NY though. LOL
We're gonna see how it works and if we need to make new ones we will... maybe I'll have him print me a spare set :) @motosteve6127
How close to Quartzite are you? Are you south of the city?
We're about 4 miles north of downtown
I think it was Moochie which is much more fitting for a dog. Have you met Kevin Loughin "The Old Ham Guy"? He camps at Quartzsite and has a similar YT channel focusing on HAM radio and other tech stuff. Nice video. Thanks
My internet seems to be hit or miss every night between 6-8..
That's a good trick :)
Enjoy your daily air shows
I wish we could see the jets here - I've only spotted them once and they were a small dot in the sky.
Fastnet is in quartzite
They service mobile units
They are on a monthly basis
You may have a set up charge but you can renew your service when you return.
If you have receptivity issues next year just ask them to update your air cube router
The company is just a couple of years old and ran by wonderful people.
Fastnet on the main drag near the roadrunner market
i see a nice horse trailer in the back ground is it for sale?
Yes for sale. $235 with the leftover manure, $250 with the manure cleaned out.
Not sure who would bring a horse to Quartzsite. Must be difficult for feed and water out there.
@@Old_Man_82 he must be a real manly man to have that
In the early years of Starlink and they had limited satellites, aiming was critical but now they have added hundreds more if not thousands, then it’s not as critical if that
"Bah Boom"...made me laugh .
Of course the do, right? 🤩
Enough camo and long guns to make me think I'm in Gaza...but Europe after
9-11 when I went with a train pass looked similar, and the cartel isn;t after a hippy gringa doing charity with mexican kids and seniors. On my SS check, I bought shoes, bikes and toys for 20 kids this christmas. Me and 1 other dude from NY. Im the only Jew in the county of Baja...Peace
A friend here is touting how awesome it is in Mexico... I said "I know someone who's down there!".
I heard Lindy that is staying there that a man came and said he was robbed while done. He left his camping supplies and etc. out. David did hear that?
I haven't heard of that, no
Ever consider doggie earmuffs for Lefty?
I've used my hands to cover his ears when the whistling fireworks are going :)
👍👍👍👍
I hate to say it, “It’s quartzite, you get what you pay for.” As 7 years as a Nomad, I’ve had no problem with the cost of our Starlink after suffering so long with poor cell coverage and laughable WiFi.
The starlink was way overdue for me...
If that was printed with PLA, it may not last very long when it gets hot in the direct sunlight. ABS would be better.
His printer can't do ABS so we used PETG
Did you want to get yourself a 3D printer Dave? That way you can print items like your friend Chris.
If i had the room, I'd have one!!!
I believe the roaming starlink has a built in router. If so you could give a guest password to the friend that made your brackets as a thank you. Just an idea. SR
Great idea, but he has Starlink already - he let me use his last year :)
👍👍👍👍👍
You know the flag is supposed to be at half-staff for Jimmy Carter, right?
Not a chance dude! One of the worst presidents in American history ‼️‼️‼️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yeah. Hope they lower it. Regardless of political affiliation, it's about respect. You get what you give in my opinion.
@5:26 them is killer dogs see the blood dripping off their faces!
Killers!... of stuffed toys...
@@TheCampulanceMan they only kill Lefty's toys
Like the nerd stuff.
Starlink is the future.... until the Kessler Syndrome happens of course.
👍
To bad you are supportinh musk.
If you want the Cadillac of wire strippers try these.
KNIPEX Automatic Wire Stripper 10-24 AWG
I'll check - thank you!
