pretty upbeat for a Lynch production which is nice...a sincere direct sentiment, more light in the dark, sounds a ok...can't fault him for wanting less conflict and wishing for a good day...and providing the audience with some alternatives in pop...he's a master of cinema sound, so makes sense bringing that approach to the music...inspired me enough to do a youtube video to this song..

I suspect Mr. Lynch went back to his time spent in Philadelphia for this song, mentally. He's described Philly at the time as "the sickest, most corrupt, decaying, fear-ridden city imaginable. I was very poor and living in bad areas. I felt like I was constantly in danger." I can totally imagine him being "so tired of *gun shots*" and "tired of *thumps through the wall*" while living there, wishing for a good day for once.
This is the first time I've considered that maybe this song is about a war weary soldier...

@naota172 nevertheless, it's hard to say you 'got' the film. each person will interpret the output differently depending on individual experience, whether that aligns with the artists' intended meaning (assuming there even is one) or not. so i guess you could say you 'formed your own understanding' of the film after a point.

@cantdecideonaname Aphex Twin makes full-blown ambient and acid techno, what David Lynch has done here is synth-pop. I fail to see how you can begin comparing them, they are making different genres of music, the only thing in common is the use of electronic instruments.
