- Brad Treliving met with reporters ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft as the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager addressed some of the top storylines surrounding the team. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti start the show looking at the latest deal made with Ilya Mikheyev going to the Chicago Blackhawks in an obvious move to clear salary cap space, which made the guys wonder if there is a player on the Leafs who could be moved to make some cap room. They move on to Treliving's media availability with the media as they watch it back to look at what he had to say and didn't say about Mitch Marner. They listened back to what he had to say about the team's goaltending, prioritizing the need to add more than one defenceman and any updates about the team's pending free agents. Marner not going anywhere. No trade clause. You sign him or you lose him for nothing end of story. You guys would have traded Ovechkin, was in the league longer before winning a cup. Yzerman, in the league way longer before winning a cup. He is a star player. So sign him or he walks for nothing that's the only option you have. Stop talking trade. It's not going to happen

The door is wiiiiiiiiiide open see ya!! The issue is 2 fold and everyone is guilty of allowing the crazy overpayment prior to winning anything. Leafs need to open up those critical cap dollars so they can have some decent depth. The team cannot continue paying 4 players nearly 50% of the cap.
@@AlistairArbour-qi3xp I don't disagree but they all have no trade clauses so that's what it is. none of those players have to go anywhere. Or do anything, Both Marner and Taveres can just say I'll play out the year and leave after that. May hate them for it. but they can do it and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Agreed. Truly don’t understand why they even want him. They thought Brodie was bad (he wasn’t until this year) wait until they get a load of Tanev at 5x5…

they definitely need that tandem goaltender. Jones could be exactly what he was last year come up if Woll goes down and fill that hole, but that tandem goaltender they bring in would still need to carry most of the injured Woll load. can an iffy talbot do that for you. The trade market is definitely better to get that tandem guy
