    I wish more drums sounded like this in metal mixes. So raw and boomy.

    • @peteEmage
      @peteEmage 5 років тому

      Hreodrich I agree that’s what drums really sound like. More music would sound like that if people practiced more instead of using triggers to hid there mistakes.

    • @peteEmage
      @peteEmage 5 років тому +11

      Malware that’s not how triggers work they add a pre recorded sound for every hit. They eliminate any weak hits or quite hits essentially evening out your volume. This video shows what a truly acoustic bass drum sounds like this takes years of practice on more than speed to pull out all notes evenly.

    • @mikekrebs5598
      @mikekrebs5598 5 років тому +3

      @@peteEmage the drummer in the video probably does not agree with your take on triggers, he uses them a lot and there are several videos of him on youtube explaining why.

    • @peteEmage
      @peteEmage 5 років тому +2

      Mike Krebs a trigger is not a microphone it registers the hit and in live play maps the drum parts and some people will use this to add a thud sound or pre recorded perfect drum hit that’s why you see them on snare drums were the player is getting perfect rim shots every hit even if there not playing to the rim. Disclaimer not everyone uses triggers like that some times there mixed very low in so it’s not as notable but in most hardcore metal with blast beats triggers are used to get that perfect artificial sound.

    • @mikekrebs5598
      @mikekrebs5598 5 років тому

      @@peteEmage Not sure why you feel the need to keep explaining what triggers are, I'm a metal/hardcore drummer and I know perfectly well how they work. But you're here commenting on a George Kollias video, a drummer who normally uses triggers for his bass drums and insists they are necessary in death metal (he uses axis longboard pedals where the transducer is built in to the pedal rather than needing to trigger and isolate the drum head itself). If you don't understand why then maybe it's you that doesn't really get how they work, and why a 'raw and boomy' bass drum sound has some serious limits when playing steady 16th notes at 250+ bpm. Don't take my word for it, though, as I said there are several youtube videos of Kollias explaining this himself.

    First, I need to be honest, I only got interested in Nile when I saw George playing, it was a shocking and fascinating surprise to see that monster playing with that stamina, punch and speed, yes, there are lots of fast drummers out there but once you take their triggers out they ate soundless, I meant, their power is given only with the triggers, without them their bass drum is imperceptible.
    George doesn't only make you feel those bass drums inside your heart but they are so damn clean and fast that something is hard to believe it.
    With that said, seeing him here talking about his technique is amazing, I've been trying to get that speed and believe me, it's really hard to be fast and constant and powerful at the same time.

    After years of playing and seeing no progress 🤡 I have been practicing this for two months and finally today after a session of three hours the right knee pain is unbearable
    But managed to play the chorus fragment of user maat re 💪😎

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille Рік тому +4

      Don't push yourself too hard, if you have in the right knee, look at the angle of your bass drum. Most people put it straight 90 degrees to the other drums however, that often means your right angle is slightly twisted on the pedal and cause tension on the ligament of your knees. Both feet should lay naturally on the pedal in a triangle from your seat to your toes - see how both of Goerge's pedals are angled the same? Most double-pedal players make the mistake of having one their right foot too straight and their left too open. If you don't have pain in the left (which I assume is your weaker leg) then this will probably take care of it if you aren't doing it this way already. If not, seek a professional help. Do NOT play around!! I know drummers who popped their knees right out taking a squat. This shit can become serious. Stop your practice session right away to stretch out if you feel any sharp pain.

    I couldn't help but notice when you play the fastest you played healed down. When you played slowly, you played heal up. Is it easier to rip on the double pedal at lightning speed with heel down? I've always played with heel up. Just curious?

    • @BrownBear96
      @BrownBear96 5 років тому +6

      He isn't playing heel down, the heel is slightly of the plate. And yes, it's more efficient since the movement is coming from lower leg muscles and not the hip or upper leg muscles. Similar to hand strokes: You don't wanna hit with whole arm but just the wrist in high tempos. Wastes energy and is larger movement. Wanna keep the body movement to a minimum.

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 3 роки тому

      You have to start slow and start working on constant 16th notes at a slow tempo with one foot. Then slowly but surely build it up faster. Start trying to play 16th notes with right foot only at 60 bpms with a timer for 5 mins straight. Do 4 sets a day at the end of your practice, so 20 mins a day at the end of your practice. Once you master 60 bpm, move to 65 and start again. And continue. You may be on one tempo for a month but just keep at it. It’s not just you, kick drum is the hardest part of drums imo. Good luck.
