As a guy who enjoys knives myself, that sure was a lot of words to say “carry a gun instead”
So true. Why not carry both though.
@@user-vj4yc8kc6v oh I always EDC a knife! Just not a “fighting knife”.
@@Bloodreign137 nice. I edc a micro tech, but looking for a good quality discreet fixed blade. Any recommendations ?
Carry both lol, Maybe some pepper spray too.
I think people don’t really understand that if you don’t have any experience in full contact close fighting, having a knife isn’t going to help you. And if you have said experience, a knife isn’t really going to benefit your defensive abilities. But yeah, EDC IWB all day.
People making fun at this video thinking it's pointless but forget that:
1. Not everyone lives in United States of Amerigun and have legal access to firearms
2. Having a knife is still better than having nothing at your disposal. Knives have saved tons of people from dogs, wild animals, etc.
Whats crazy is that i can't even conceal carry a knife in my country lmao
aMeRIgUn
That's how i carry my gun incase someone pulls a fixed blade on me.
If you're carrying concealed at the moment that somebody draws a knife on you within measure, you better just go ahead and reach for whatever that dude wants to rob you for.
It is easy to be dealt a fatal wound with most firearms, but they are not magic wands that negate external dangers to yourself, mag dump on a man at point blank range and you'll find he's no more dead when the dust settles than you are with your throat open or 4½" of steel in you aorta.
What Too Close For Comfort said is why I carry an umbrella. It's always in my hands.

You just changed my life
@Death to the Heretics Knife wielders tend to be Ambush Hunters, don't they?
Most of the people I know been stabbed never saw it coming.
It’s called the cavalry draw. It’s how I carry a revolver every day. Easy to draw when sitting and laying down, can be drawn with either hand, in enclosed spaces, and the shoulder does not have to be lifted as high. Cavalryman of the 19th century carried in this manner for all these reasons, but most importantly, it’s because the saber was worn on the left, so cross draw was out of the question. Famous men like Bill Hickok carried and Drew his navies in this manner. Never thought to carry a knife like this. (I always carry a small fixed blade around my neck.) but I see the benefit, and thought you would enjoy a little bit of history.
An old instructor informed me that the Roman Gladius was also drawn in this way, because they wanted the sword's scabbard as far away form the shield as possible.
bravo
"Prairie draw"
@@thesprucemill6632 Ive seen it called that as well. Many plainsman were Indian scouts for the army, and picked up the method. It really is the best way to carry if you are mounted. I carry a single action most of the time, and ride a motorcycle as a daily driver here in Texas. I see why it was so popular.
I love it when people share what should be kept private on UA-cam because they think they're actually anonymous.

Agreed. People want to sound cool and dismissive, but some places, guns are highly illegal. I find the idea of a larger fighter appealing, especially when traveling overseas.

Carrying like this saved my life. I was about to get beat down by 6-7 dudesand as soon as things got serious, I pulled my blade in icepick stance and they knew that I was gonna stab several of them before I went down, so they backed off...death don't scare me as I have seen plenty of it over my years in the military, but God told these idiots "he's not backing off or going down without a fight"

In short, guns aren't a 100% guarantee for me. Knives are.

You the new Super hero 'Fixed Blade Jacket' 🔪
I carry the same way for IWB*. It's the best for concealed, though of course regular belt carry at several inches lower is far faster and less awkward if you're somewhere that open carry of fixed blades doesn't cause issues. I know classic boot knives seem to be out of style these days, but I always have a dagger in my boot as a last ditch option. Hard to access, but it's _never_ noticed by anyone and will often go undetected through your basic security-guard and bouncer halfass weapons check and wanding (eg; anything short of a thorough police frisk or walk through metal detector).
*Only when I don't have a pistol. If I'm carrying both then pistol goes either the same place or "appendix", and the knife is kept at the center of back so it's accessible to my off hand if needed and doesn't produce the unbalanced feeling of trying to carry knife and gun on the same side.
Outstanding!
I’ve been using a “Panther Concealment Sheath” for years with my TOPS Prather War Bowie. It is basically what you have there, except the sheath has no retention on the knife. Held in by gravity and pressure from the waistband.
It’s an excellent edc system.
I’ve been eyeing those up for my Vaquero, but seems to make more (practical) sense with the Prather. Thanks for the tip!

Well it’s not like you have to conceal it. Here in Tennessee I can wear a katana on my back and conceal a sawed off shotgun in my jacket completely legally haha.

Most places won’t allow you to conceal a blade larger than 6 in.

I use to scout carry my Bear Grylls paracord knife up until I lost it so for now I use my Bowie as a boot knife a Boker pocket knife with glass breaker and seat belt cutter as EDC and a Bear Grylls scout pocket knife as a spare and for small things like opening a package or something a small Gerber Mini-Remix 2 blade
I carry mine 100% backwards from yours, so I can draw it with the point already facing away from me, and I can draw it with a regular grip. Ice pick grips are not useful except in very limited situation‘s, and you have to be damn good at knife fighting to know what those situations are. As someone who tests many different options in the gym, I have found that to be the best solution for me. Everyone is different though, I just like that I’m not the only person who carries a fixed blade knife every day. 😁
I learned from my army buddy. He corrected me….you are correct sir👍🏻.
I do like that you said it depends. I’m left hand dominate and I’m a right handed shooter so carrying a ring knife reverse grip in my left allows me to fight and create space so I can work to my gun and not lose my knife when I shoot.
Absolutely 100% correct. Reverse edge forward grips greatly limit your range of motion with the blade. Looks good on tv but any edged weapon defense or offense trainer will tell you the exact same thing:
That's what I thought. If you are ready for him to pull that knife at one point you could just bump him and he'd stab himself.
@@acidlab9586 none of the training I’ve had ever recommended or taught it as an offensive or defensive grip. Maybe for a specific motion, but if your knife only has one edge, you’re greatly limited on how you can use it. Knife flat, blade inside, point at a downward angle, elbow bent.
I love scout carry in the front for my fixed blade, comfortable to sit with, easy and quick draw, just one of my favorite ways to carry
That’s a good tip , one method I hadn’t thought about !
I just run my smith and Wesson performance center at the appendix. Not sure when that'll help you in a defensive situation legally.
It won't man! He is so backwards it's not worth explaining.
the government is trying to make self defense illegal and they are attacking guns not criminals
Smith and Wesson knife?
@Michael-xp5mw🤡🤡🤡
This is food for thought
I like his way of thinking.
There are laws to protect gun owners for self defense and none for knife users.
Until you use your expensive gun in self defense. Then they take that gun away from you. I'm not sure if you ever get it back.
There are lws that protect self defense. None state anthing about what weapons that can be used.
However, There are laws that “preempt” localities from making laws on guns, making it easier to own and carry anywhere in the state.
There may be a few states like this re knives, but not many.
Additionally, some states where the permit to carry is a weapons permit, for including knoves, but most are for firearms. Historically, this is because there were more laws restricting concealed firearms to beginwirh
As a young man I was known to like sharp edges, loud guns, fast cars, and slow women. Unfortunately, I never used a single weapon over 90% of the times I was confronted. I also realized that pulling one usually escalated the situation. With age has come some wisdom. If you walk around looking for trouble you will definitely find it. If you avoid troubled areas and mind your own business you may never once need to draw a weapon. Knives are cool but unless you sneak up on someone a gun will usually win the day..
Not bad, i really like how the sword draw position fixes that Inconvenient issue of the vertical draw
Very good. I'm left-handed and this solution is very good for me.
Wow Hunter Biden out here making EDC knife videos now 😂

The difference between a knife and a gun is a knife is up close and personal, and you better be ready to put work in, cuz it's a lot to stab somebody to death. (Real)
You see, anyone could've said that, but you say it the way only one with experience would say it. Do tell:)
Any edged weapon instructor will tell you the number one rule in edged weapon defense/offense is: you’re going to get cut.
Right, only a few know!
I love to tug it out in reverse grip a couple of times a week. Just for a change.
Just my two cents as a HEMA practitioner,
I would strongly advise against ever using reverse grip for anything really, but especially defence. You have an extremely limited range if motion in the parry with an already small blade with very limited viable options to follow up.
note that I mean no offence, just some friendly advice from experience
Reverse grip works really good for knives. Kali, a deadly Filipino martial art, uses the reverse grip for alot of techniques.
You cannot Parry with a knife anyways, This isn't resident evil 4, so why even try?
@@chickengod9885 I agree parrying with nothing but a knife and no off hand weapon isn't favorable if you don't want to initiate a grapple, but you might be forced to in a pinch and reverse grip definitely won't make that easier
@@chickengod9885 I have heard of Kali but don't know much about it, My experience is from a strictly european background so of course I do not know everything. I don't doubt that reverse grip can be made to work in some situations in other martial arts but from a pragmatic point of view I personally think that a regular forward grip is much less situational and plain easier to "pull off" which is what you'd want in an emergency situation.
@@szymonj1804No, you literally cannot Parry with a knife. It's hard enough to do it while calm and collected, but with adrenaline coursing through your veins, your better off just dodging or stabbing back till there's an opening for you to run.
Careful what blade you have in your state, and especially concealed.🇺🇸👍

Tacti-cool!
“Never bring a knife to a gun fight.”
Its more so desperation, not everyone can legally own a firearm so the only real choice we have for lethal weapons are sharp instruments
Ive been in a couple knife fights, the last one almost killed me. My advice, do not hold your knife with a reverse grip for fighting/defending. Its way easier to block and your range becomes limited. Hold it in your hand like youre pointing with it
Pro tip: only dress shirts get tucked in. This will both: 1. Help the shirt conceal the blade 2. Make you look normal and not like a dork.

Ha! That's exactly what I do! I make my own custom leather sheaths with the keeper on a swivel to carry a Gerber Mk I, Buck 119, or Cold Steel Tai Pan. Twist draw is the speediest and least amount of motion. You can always crossdraw from the other side too.
Good pointers, thanks

I just stick it in my front pocket with a cord I can grab and pull it out. Some people would consider that dangerous but I know my right front pocket is strictly for a knife. I can get it faster than anything on the belt. I've practiced and tried every way I can think of and this is the way I settled on.

I’d carry it on my left, since my right is my strong side and my carry drawing hand.
The reasoning you have behind it is the same as why the calvary used to do that during the old west and civil War with the pistol.

Very good advice ,thanks.
Idk who started saying reverse grip is for combat but it is not lol just looks cool, makes it much less effective than just holding it normal.

Genius sir.
Elegant was an interesting choice of word.
I've never thought about carrying in that position.
I only have a small handful of 4" blade fixies (WE Stonefish, Borka SB1, Spartan Blades Phrike) and I tend to only right hand scout carry because they generally remain concealed and out of the way especially while wearing a hoodie/jacket.
All my larger fixies (Microtech Arbiter, Tops Silent Hero, Spyderco Provence) are all 6+" blades so I prefer a kydex + dangler thigh setup for them
However I do think this is the perfect carry style for knives that are 5" in blade length
i love knives, and i always have one on me right next to my 1911
You can also do the same thing with a scout carry.
Great video.
