    Put the fan in front of the vacuum pump allowing air to flow over the entire surface and your pump will be much cooler overall. Have fun.

    If you really want to pinch pennies you can take your parchment paper liners and wash them. Just wash in soap and water, rinse, and hang to dry. They can be used many times over.

    We use a small electric fan and plug it in line with the pump. It automatically comes on when the pump does. This keeps it cooling when the pump is on.

      @@k.hamrickc.kissman2307 I bought a small extension (KMC 0.6-Foot (5-Pack) Power Extension Cord, 3 Prong Appliance Extension Cable Cord-Black) at Amazon. It has an outlet where it plugs into the wall and a second a little further). You plug the short extension into the FD outlet. You plug the pump and the fan into the cable. The FD will then power them at the same time.

    Will you be making tray liners that cover the whole tray, ie interior sides and bottom so all food including liquids/sauces keep the entire interior of the metal tray clean? Bottom-alone coverage tray liners do not do this. So far nowhere is this to be found yet such a simple product to make.

    We just received our medium freeze dryer and are learning a lot from you about freeze drying. Thank you for sharing generously your expertise, tips and opinions. We like the clip-on fan you used in the video and checked it out on Amazon. We have a question though. Based on the specs provided on Amazon's site, the rechargeable fan has a max battery run capacity of 24 hrs on low, 12 hrs for medium or energy saving and 6 hrs for high. Are you charging the fan while in use? If not, the battery run time is not capable of running as long as the freeze dryer. How are you overcoming this issue? Thanks.

    Hi, Brian. Love your vids! Would you PLEASE be so kind as to make a video that SLOWLY shows how to set up the meter? I ordered one per your advice and can't get it to set up. The directions are not that great in my opinion or the one I got is piece of junk. I'm trying to put in the cost, and it won't let me. The directions talk about AFTER the decimal, but the only field that changes is BEFORE the decimal. I'd really love it if you could do a video from beginning to end about all of the fields since I know nothing about electricity, but do it slowly because I'll have to keep starting and stopping as I'm trying to enter info into my meter. Purchased some of your stackers and parchment paper. They're awesome!

    Thank you, Brian, for a very helpful video. Based on your recommendation/s, I purchased the rechargeable fan :) I do have two questions. I charged up the fan fully, but after completing the initial bread run, my fan was no longer running to keep the pump cool. Does your fan keep running through the completion of all your batches? (I presume you have to recharge it after every run.) My second question is: how does the timing work regarding using the chamber to vac seal bags/jars? The food needs to be immediately stored/sealed property to prevent rehydration, but how is that possible if the chamber has to defrost first before it can be used to vac seal things for storage? Thanks for any further light you can shed. I find all your videos extremely helpful!

    • @CannaNoir
      @CannaNoir 2 роки тому

      He has 2 so he can do things like this without worrying about defrosting it first. I believe you can skip the defrost and vacuum seal things especially since it only takes 2 minutes or so. I'd recommend putting down a silicon mat though, and/or make sure the jars are COMPLETELY dry or they'll obviously stick. 😆 The silicon/parchment paper is precaution for the bottoms sticking.

      His Mylar bag trick works because it's easy for air to escape but with a large area of flat surface where the sides of the bag can press together makes it hard for air to get back in. Try it for yourself with a small Mylar bag sealed with air in it. Cut off a corner and notice you can easily suck the air out, but once you've sucked most of it out, it's very hard to blow more air into as the Mylar sides stick together. You have to deform the Mylar to create a channel for the air to get it to blow up.
