I have smth to say about it. I suffered from religious OCD, fear of devil and blaspemy in my head for long. I was so overwhelmed and exhausted, i was so drained and didn't want to live. I thought i was the worst person on planet. I knew there were devils in my head, i really wanted to have them gone, but didn't know how. They seemed to be so sticky and powerful, i thought i would never get rid of it. I believed in God really much (and i still believe) and i didn't hear anything about such an illness like Obsessive compulsive disorder. So i tried to speak to a priest, but he didn't believe me, though. He said "you just have to watch less horror films, darling" 😔. My heart was broken at that moment. Because the priest was my last hope.
Later i started googling and by an accident (or by God's will) i found a website, where another priest said that DEVIL IS VERY SELFISH, UPPISH AND PROUD AS A PEACOCK. And when you are scared of blaspemous thoughts - he likes it. He likes that he makes you being scared of him. So DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO those bad thoughts and devil will leave forever, coz he can not take it. He hates when you are indifferent.
I did like what priest had said and it worked immediately. I was shocked. There were no bad thoughts in my head anymore.
3 years later i learnt about OCD. I was surprised that it is considered to be an illness. And if to pay attention to how psycologists try to help people to fight OCD, we can see that actually they offer the same stategy : DON'T FEED DEVIL WITH YOUR FEAR, AND HE WILL GO AWAY. Psycologists suggest to accept the bad thoughts and they will become weaker. Exactly as the priest from that website said!
    So that is the truth.
And that is the only way.

are you roman catholic? I am RC and Saint Francis of Sales said that if we don't delight in our sinful thoughts, they are not sinful.
      One example:
You have a temptation to curse God: you look at this thought and think "oh no that's terrible I love God"
you did not sin because you refused it.
Or maybe if you have the same thought saying that God is bad or worse blasphemies. But you know in your heart that those are not true. They do not represent how you feel about God. If we had a thought like "Oh, my mother is stupid" and we don't want to insult our mom, we would recognize it as a lie and just brush it off. However, when it comes about God, what makes us fearful is knowing that He hears and knows our thoughts, that's why it's so triggering

We fear that God is hearing us and will be upset at us. that's the triggering part. "oh no He's hearing everything He must be offended" and it makes us feel so bad.

The problem here is that the evil one wants us to believe that the Father will not forgive you sin if you blaspheme presenting that sin as a sin against the Holy Ghost. Let's resolve this logically. Is there a Sin that God the Father will not forgive if His son repents? There cannot be one. If you repent and the Father doesn't forgive, what kind of Father is that? Is that an almighty all loving all merciful God? No. The point is, you have the wrong picture of God the Father. The Father wants to save you with all His strength because He loves you more than a life itself. How He would not forgive? That is impossible. God forgives EVERY sin that you repent of. The only sin that the Father cannot forgive is when you do not want to be saved from that sin or you do not believe that God can save you, that in short is that sin against the Holy Ghost.

There is a demon behind this condition, I have just been delivered after battling extreme blasphemous thoughts and anxiety for 1 year. The demons really tormented me to a point I became suicidal, I pray for anyone going through this situation, it is a very dark place to be in, may our Lord God deliver us from evil , Amen

Omg can you PLEASE tell me about your journey?! How was it cured in an year? It has been 8 years for me. Omg. Constant blasphemous thoughts and intrusive thoughts have been harassing me for years and WILL NOT STOP.
Can you please tell me how you got to the point in your life where you managed to get delivered? How did you fight this condition? I agree that this is demonic. If I read psalms for 5 hours they subside.. But I'm so depressed that 5 hours seems impossible to do every day.
Please help me by sharing your testimony.
The thoughts plague me 24/7. It's not so bad anymore but it's not totally going away. I think I got an epiphany from God but I've also been self medicating. I think because if I self medicate with drugs, it is a sin so they step away from me and don't need to try as hard to torment me. But I tried Ritalin and Klonopin and the thoughts completely stopped. Vyvanse and Ativan did the same thing so I'm confused.
ERP makes it worse. The more I entertain it the deeper and more blasphemous it gets. It stops me from thinking clearly and it is scary.
How did you stop this? I've been diagnosed with OCD 4x now. But my thoughts are only centered on religion or morality. It's got so bad that I also became suicidal. The demons won't let go. I want them to but even now I saw a '666' flash in my mind. This is demonic and evil. Please help me.

I'm afraid you are wrong in what you say a person with Scrupulosity should do. A person with faith needs to focus on the compassion and love of God, not focus on demonic images. Your comments would drive a person with faith into deeper mental torment because everything we face is a spiritual battle and there is warfare going on in heavenly realms for each soul. You need to listen to Mark DeJesus, he will explain to you, as a Christian, how important it is to focus on the goodness of God and to have compassion for ourselves.

This is so tricky because those ERPs are considered sins and one with this type of OCD does not wanna sin..It's even trickier because of the fear of punishment which may be LATER not instantaneous. I admire if you have time to reply this, as it is overwhelming.

I found my mom dead when I was 13 and 2 years after I started to develop a fear of psychosis or going insane. I designed my whole life just making sure I do the right things to keep myself sane (sleep enough is number 1, its a real obsession, number 2 eating healthy, 3 mentally preparing for vacations or activities, 4 I make sure I don't plan too much in one day, this way I don't get overwhelmed and there's smaller chance of getting psychosis. The list goes on and on). I'm 32 now and this fear feels like it grew into my soul. Until now I never realized that it's mostly thoughts and the fact that its actually ok to expose myself purposely without consequences is mind blowing. I really thought that avoiding anything that could make me insane, is the right thing to do.. I can't believe that you tell me to purposely look for triggers, but I'm 100% open to it!!! Thank you for your video's.

Hi Katie, my 9 year old daughter thinks she will go to hell if she does certain things "wrong", like putting her shoes on wrong for example. This then prevents her from doing the thing itself. Any ideas on how to use ERP for this please? Thank you.

    • @23katied
      @23katied  6 місяців тому +1

Hi Baz. In a case like this ERP is relatively straightforward to design. You would get her to deliberately do something "wrong" (you could create a heirarchy so she starts with something that is not the scariest thing) and then help her to not engage in ruminating or worrying about the possibility of something bad happening by engaging her in something else. Remember not to reassure her in any way that the bad thing won't happen! What you are trying to do here is help her to see that her fears are just fears and that if she does something 'wrong' and she feels bad she can cope with that bad feeling and the feeling will subside on it's own over time and she doesn't need to do anything to make it go away. If she keeps thinking about it and vocalising it you can just say 'yeah, well, maybe, who knows - hey look over here (not those exact words but what I mean is engage her in something else while not telling her not to think about it - make take a bit of practice on your part). Later, if you can see she has refocussed and probably forgotten about it do not be afraid to bring it up - you can say - hey are you still worrying about that - and if she says not so much I'd forgotten until you said that, you can help her to see that by doing the feared thing and then doing nothing her anxiety/discomfort went away on it's own. I'd suggest trying to do a deliberate exposure with her daily - so choose a time that works rather than just doing it when she needs to e.g put on her shoes) and over time you can build up to more or you may find that at some point it clicks and she just 'gets it' and stops worrying about it. This can happen with kids as they are so much quicker to learn than us adults!

Sorry for the very delayed response. Usually with fear of harming you will have lots of things you avoid or do in order to make sure you don't harm people. So one way is to build yourself and ERP programme based around doing these things differently (for example I've had clients who have slept with a kitchen knife on their bedside table, taken rope in their pocket when out for a walk etc). But if you are talking about doing imaginal exposure then yes you could for e.g write down I want to kill (whoever) and read it out loud over and over or record it and listen to it on loop - you do this for 5-10 minutes at a time until your discomfort starts to come down a bit - the idea is that at present your mind responds to these thoughts like they are a fire alarm going off and we want to train your mind to respond to them like they are just background noise (i.e don't need responding to).

Thank for taking the time to reply and what you say makes total sense, could the same exposure to unwanted promises and vows be treated in the same way? Obviously these carry a serious meaning so using them in ERP would be very hard and traumatic as a treatment but I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
Thank you again, I appreciate you must be so busy.
      Phill.

@@philllev I'm not quite clear what you are asking here in terms of the unwanted promises and vows but in short you can use ERP with any content. Just bear in mind that it is the process that we are wanting to change and not the content. In general people are trying to avoid having certain thoughts and feelings so the exposure is to have more of these thoughts and feelings. So in the case of thoughts of harm it's not that we are trying to expose you to harming someone but instead to the thoughts of harming someone. I hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply, I guess my question is if your issue is with vows and promises which are normally classed as binding what sort of ERP dialogue should you use? It's scary enough doing the therapy but knowing what you are saying is a vow or a promise is even worse. I hope that makes sense.

@@philllev AH ok. Well in that case what I would say is that I would use whatever language you find triggering. If you try and make it somehow 'acceptable' then you won't be targeting your fear. Tolerating the anxiety/guilt/discomfort of saying or thinking something that is outside of your beliefs is what it is all about. You could try drawing a stick man cartoon of you breaking those vows or record yourself saying the triggering vow break and listen to it on loop.

In my case I'm suffering from the opposite. I'm trying to be atheist i have some good Reasons as well. But i just can't shake the idea of sin or punishment.
See I'm suffering from "severe" superstitious OCD for the past 14 years, this is literally hell and im not even joking .
The only way i can be free now is either die or try hypnosis to get rid of the idea of god😔

The more you try and get rid of an idea the more it’s going to stick around....
