- In the early 1930s, decades after cars were being mass produced, inventor Brooks Walker created the fifth wheel. With just a simple flick of a button on the cars dashboard a wheel at the back would be released, allowing the car to move from left to right. And according to this video it looked like it made parallel parking infinitely easier as well as. Why aren't we all using this invention?

If you are a rich kid, this could be a nice addition.
Given that electric cars have a front trunk since they don't have a big engine taking up the space, volume the fifth wheel occupy may be more affordable

I loved the video, but the ending was a bit abrupt
i saw this on instagram. i thought there had to be some flaw they didn't use it but sounds like there isn't any, the idea was just rejected. i'm sure people in the city would pay $1,600 today to make it easier to park and avoid damage to cars.
Nowadays, different autopilot(or, dare I say, autodriver) technology probably could do it better without any extra wheels.

I know some workshops do implement this fifth wheel into old vehicles, but I am not sure how much space take into the trunk.

Parallel parking is stupid. Better planning will eliminate most of it. Esp back in street side parking
Parallel parking is quite useful on a lot of streets. It will never be fully eliminated.
