Not only that, he got within a blink of an eye from killing Fern. The only reason she's alive is because she's faster at casting than Frieren and got the third shield up in a blink.
The reason Fern survived the beam is because she was tactical and fast enough to raise a third shield after the first one went down to avoid wasting mana on three shields when two at a time was both safe and efficient
What I love about Frieren gifting Fern a hair ornament with a butterfly motif is that the spell we see Fern casting as a child with Heiter in episode two is a spell that summons spectral butterflies. Frieren claims to not know anything about her but still manages to pick such a perfect gift, a gift that highlights her connection to Heiter and why she loves magic.
Is what i love about this anime, nothing is random or purposeless, magic is always defined in such way it feel s logic, logic magic is science, oh this spell is strong, boom study, contra measures, boom magic defense, how those that def magic works= is not just "oh is strong magic just cause NOPE, is strong cause uses a lot of mana, make sense and not just OP stuff just cause like in many other series, i have kept an eye on all the little details that always come back later on the story is amazing , like the sour grapes! i so happy you noticed, and i cant wait to see how you will react to many other details, SO see you soon
Two observations you should remember that'll come back after: 1. Qual is surprised that Frieren can fly now, meaning she couldn't 80 years ago. 2. The color of Zoltraak is different between Qual and Frieren. The reason will be explained, and Frieren can actually cast both types.
For me episode 2, 11, 12, 14, 16, 25, 27 and 28 are my weakness. I might be missing some, but these are the ones I can clearly remember crying to. I love flowers now.
Frieren’s magic takes quite a bit from real scientific theory in terms of adaptation and evolution, which makes it all the more interesting. It’s very methodical instead of just being flashy and fancy spells.
I think what punctuates that more is the scene immediately after, Fern apologizes to Frieren for doubting her. It just closes the short loop since the start of the episode nicely, with a birthday gift and sweets on top.
It's important to recognize that Frieren's perception of people is extremely warped and exaggerated because of her life span. Remember. She's known Fern since she was tiny, tiny, tiny. She spent six years with Heiter teaching Fern magic and another several years adventuring with her. Frieren has been around and known Fern for all of Fern's life, yet she still claims she knows nothing about her. The reality is that she probably knows more about Fern than Fern, herself. She just can't fathom that.
same thing with himmel and their party. she claimed in episode 1 she didn't know anything about him... altho we instantly get a collage/montage of her memories with them and himmel being always by her side. she remembers their favorite foods and everything. she is either in denial or just can't believe or understand how important these 10 years she spent with them where for her.
Qual is such great mage! He figured out how the defensive spell worked just by seeing it once! Also the reason he looked for Frieren left and right at first was because Frieren never used the flying spell in front of him! Thats why he was surprised that she could fly!
The fight with Qual also shows that Frieren increased her speed of getting stronger. 80 years ago she could not defeat him. But since humanity develops in such a fast way, she did as well, cause she could not afford to be left behind.
Few people notice this, but Frieren has this tendency to kill demons in ways that mirror their own method of killing. About her power level, without spoiling anything, but Frieren was part of the party that cleared the "game" and defeated the big bad, so she'd have to be on an appropriate power level. The basement at the beginning? Frieren could have easily wiped the floor with everyone in that room. Which makes it easy to appear fearless, I guess... 😅
someone maybe already told you, but Himmel means Sky and Heaven and if you pay attention, pretty whenever possible, Frieren will look up at the sky at least once whenever shes talking/thinking about Himmel or the scenery will have a lot of the Sky in the shot ❤😭💔❣
Himmel = Sky (also we have a colour named "himmel-blau" which ofc is sky blue, e.g. the flowers or...the fly frieren keeps looking at) Frieren = Freeze / Freezing (not so sure if its supposed to have that meaning in frierens case lol) Heiter = Cheerful (mr. priest) Eisen = Iron (probably as in "strong as iron" because he's a strong warrior and also ofc...a dwarf) Fern = Remote / Far / Distant (I guess we'll learn more about her) ... more names to come later in the series
Alsooo....I just got the idea..maybe their names is just what Frieren sees in the people. E.g. Himmel is like "the Himmel" or "the sky" for her. "Heiter" is just a cheerfull person for her. "Fern" would be "far for/from her" (?).
Madhouse totally should have released this as 1 episode instead of a 4-part prologue, like Oshi No Ko. Only those of us who knew beforehand or spent a whole day binging the entire series (guilty) have some of these questions answered sooner than later. That's not to say there aren't still so many more questions that won't get answered!
Frieren was made by madhouse studios. Their animations as far as I know are one of the best. Maybe you would consider adding Overlord in your "to react list" after completing frieren. It is also from Madhose inc.
and i dont know if anyone told you guys yet but himmel means sky thats why when they talk about him or frieren thinks about him she looks up at the sky
anybody told them that they should translate all the names of the travelers from german into english? They all have german words as names. Would be intersting for them too know what they mean :)
"would she be more powerful than the average adventurer?" I mean... their party killed the demon lord, of course she is stronger than 99% of the adventurers.
uymm did u see the grave iof the kid or the old man that flipped frerein skirt at the last panel with his hat ..... he said he would live a more longer life but instead died like he was waiting for frirein just like himmel said she would come halting his own end for the sake of himmel expectations and the expectations he has for himmmel and his view of frerein that she would leave the village in need help
You figured out the sour grape spell. Good observation 😊
Had the same thought, i feel like a lot of people miss that detail in these reaction videos.
I love how Qual saw the new defensive magic and immediately understood how to cast it and the downsides of it.
Yeah, he is a real deal, imagine if he was left alone how powerful he might be
Not only that, he got within a blink of an eye from killing Fern. The only reason she's alive is because she's faster at casting than Frieren and got the third shield up in a blink.
The reason Fern survived the beam is because she was tactical and fast enough to raise a third shield after the first one went down to avoid wasting mana on three shields when two at a time was both safe and efficient
He analyzed it and would've made a stronger Zoltraak or another spell that could penetrate it
Qual had such a cool design. Wish we got to see more of him before he got 1-shot

The idea that Frieren spent years after the adventures looking for a spell to make grape sours for Eisen is so sweet
but... but... she KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THEM!
Wow you two are so observant and have some great questions and theories I never considered. Thank you for reacting!

@@athernandez666episode 6 is pretty good tho, that little parallel at the end of the episode caught some reactors off guard. 💔
Keep counting bro

Zoltraak OST is my favourite on the show. When you start to hear it something epic is about to happen.
The "rough" looking guys at the pub, are symbolic to the whole show [Frieren Beyond Journey's End]... things aren't as they seem on the surface.
I think what punctuates that more is the scene immediately after, Fern apologizes to Frieren for doubting her. It just closes the short loop since the start of the episode nicely, with a birthday gift and sweets on top.
Man I wish they'd upload more regularly. This is a great anime.

WOOO! MORE FRIEREN! :D
Straw hat grandfather VA = Rayleigh VA 😏
'Zoltraak' is still extremely powerful. It's just meta defining instead of meta breaking.
Thank you for sharing 😊
yeah. dont forget the sour grapes it will bring a little neat moment later. theres many details with future payoff like that
フリーレン観てくれて嬉しい🥰
Qual is such great mage! He figured out how the defensive spell worked just by seeing it once!

The world needs the deeds himmel, frieren, eisen and Heiter does.
The fight with Qual also shows that Frieren increased her speed of getting stronger. 80 years ago she could not defeat him. But since humanity develops in such a fast way, she did as well, cause she could not afford to be left behind.
keep going guys

MORE!!!

zoltrak is the spell they use most of the time bc its ordinary offensiv magic now so every attack spell they used at this point was zoltrak
Himmel = Sky (also we have a colour named "himmel-blau" which ofc is sky blue, e.g. the flowers or...the fly frieren keeps looking at)
Frieren = Freeze / Freezing (not so sure if its supposed to have that meaning in frierens case lol)

In this EP there would also be "Qual" the demon. In german Qual means "torment, agony, torture".
Alsooo....I just got the idea..maybe their names is just what Frieren sees in the people. E.g. Himmel is like "the Himmel" or "the sky" for her. "Heiter" is just a cheerfull person for her. "Fern" would be "far for/from her" (?).

yeah i dont understand why they had to cut it when it was all released the same day anyway and was meant to be watched together
