    A Ruger American Rimfire rifle is a step up on this for sure if someone really wants to use 10/22 mags. Though, I agree that a Savage MkII is probably a better bet overall at that price point.

      I got my savage mkii for $159 earlier this year. My only complaint is the mag. Other than that, it's shooting nice groups (little over 1") at 100yds with a 1-4 viper pst in top. I think once I get a higher magnification optic on top, it should be sub moa with good ammo.

    What I enjoyed most, was watching your solutions to learn what be the best area to start testing upgrades. That is why I loved your 10/22 video as you went from stock to nearly totally upgrading everything. Maybe we will all run into a lemon of a rifle and goods to see what can be done, if you want to spend the additional money to do so. Thanks for taking the time to make what seemed to be a frustrating time with that rifle.

    Totally agree with your statement about a kids rifle needing to be more accurate than this particular rifle. With kids Fun has a lot to do with shooting, (same could be said for adults) and not hitting your target or being able to show any sign of improvement would be frustrating and somewhat demoralizing to a new shooter. One of my rifles is a Savage Mark II that can be had for $250 and it would walk circles around this particular rifle.
    I'd love to get into a premium 22lr rifle setup, but I have too much fun reloading for precision with my larger calibers. Knowing the in inconsistencies in mass manufactured ammo on top of it being 22lr, I've been extremely happy with my Savage Mark II and my old Ruger 10/22 target.

    I took EC's advise and duct taped a 1 1/4" HF 1/2" drive socket to the end of my 2020, boy does it help and the duct tape makes adjustments easy, world class shooter promoting WC equipment, hell yea brother!

    I'm honestly surprised at these results. I've put a few thousand rounds through mine and I've had nothing close to the feed and accuracy issues shown here. The trigger should absolutely be replaced, which is a shame and makes the value proposition questionable, but its at least a standard 700 trigger. What's mind boggling is that the factory trigger is adjustable, but it bottoms out at 4lbs, so I'm not sure why they bothered.

    How about checking the crown? Maybe recrown the barrel ? Lap the barrel?
    My Ruger American Rimfire had accuracy issues I recrowned the barrel that helped then I lapped the barrel with JB Bore Paste now it shoots MOA at 50yds with TAC .22

  • @couespursuit7350
    @couespursuit7350 11 місяців тому +1

    My SPFD 2020 also fails to feed reliably with Ruger mags. My 2020 RF will make the 1" with 3 shots at 50y guarantee but still basically not match accuracy, so can't sent it back and can't shoot matches with it. Also scoped mine and the barrel, crown and chambering looks ok. One thing I noticed on mine is that when I run my rod and cleaning patch down the bore it feels looser than all my other 22RF barrels. So all you out there telling Josh he did not do this or did not do that or did it wrong or send it back, you just might consider what he has showed you is what it is, its NOT GOOD.

    I get 1” groups at 50yards with shitty subsonic winchester bulk ammo. Idk wtf happened to your barrel but I would send it back. It’s the best made .22 out there for $379 price matched from brownells. Thick heavy barrel. Full size stock. Great threads. Excellent trigger when adjusted lighter. I really don’t understand why you would get a different trigger. Mine is so crisp and light I can bet it’s under 4pds. Factory set is 4pds. Any lighter and it’s just dangerous. This gun is a beast!! I have yet to try target or match ammo. Try augula super white blue yellow box

    • @PursuitofAccuracy

      Below 4lbs on a trigger is not dangerous. People shoot prs and nrl with 8-10 oz triggers every day without an issue.

    Hey Josh. How about having a play with the action screw torque setting. The guy over on Oh Shoot seemed to be shooting bug holes so there may be something there?? It would be interesting to see with the upgraded trigger. Only thing I would change is he loosened the screw and then as he increased the torque he wouldn't loosen the screw first. Doing it that way you have to overcome the friction of the screw head against the stock rather than having a smooth motion from 0 all the way to the desired torque.

  • @stevenclark7070
    @stevenclark7070 11 місяців тому +1

    Hey Josh, I will have to agree with you on all points. I had good results using 10/22 magazines, and my only feeding issues came with Eley Match & Eley Team ammo. The bullet design of the semi flat nose, I feel, plays a part. When shoot actual flat note bullets, I didn't see the feeding issue.
    As you, we will see if anyone starts making premium barrels for this gun. I like the aluminum mag well & trigger guard and how it mates up with the action. The conical breech face is interesting, to say the least. If the tuner couldn't help the accuracy, then that tells me the barrel is the issue. My guess is you will see Springfield coming out with a Gen 2 that will have better barrels and higher price points.
    Springfield, with being late to the gate, in having a 22lr rifle, did the quickest and cheapest thing they could do to get in on the fad. It a shame because there are some interesting engineering points with this rifle.
    I won't be putting any more money into this rifle until I see a premium barrel come out for it. To everyone on the Springfield 2020, buyer beware! Thanks for the review, Josh!

    • @weilfast
      @weilfast 11 місяців тому +1

      The conical breach is similar to what savage does on the b22 which has a threaded barrel, and a nut for headspace. The manufacturing can be done on a lathe, without the need for timed extractor slots, cut with a milling machine. Makes for a very solid barrel connection, with adjustable headspace (if threaded, with a barrel nut).

    I was hopeful that the 2nd video would show different results, especially with the aftermarket upgrades. I wanted to like this gun and might've bought a wood stock version but not likely now. Thanks for taking the time to do this. One question from someone who is NOT a target shooter, is there any chance that adjustments to the action screws might make a difference ? I have seen that on 22's before so just a suggestion.

    I have to say you may have gotten a linen. I was having some issues with mine initially, but then I re-torqued the receiver screw to 35 inch pounds and then the trigger guards screw to about 15 inch pounds as recommended by the manufacturer I was able to get half inch groups of 50 yards with CCI mini mags. I’m not sure if scrubbing the bore out with some JB bore paste helped as well but I have to disagree. Mine is a shooter.

    Have you tried working on bedding? Add a layer of aluminum tape to bedding area and then work on finding torque setting for bedding? From the node you shot - I’d start there and tweak bedding pressure starting at 5 in/lb and working up. Might get it be consistent? From experience, rifles that show ‘promise’ usually benefit from tweaking bedding pressure.

    Maybe lapping the barrel with some JB Bore bright like 100 strokes would help?. Or at this point and the way is shoots maybe lapping the barrel with some Comet or Ajax with the Blue Crystals. Will it help? prolly not, but it damn sure can't hurt it at this point. Always amazing to me how you can grab some 100 year old .22 and it shoots way better than expected and you buy a new one with all the technology we have and it's a Turd.

    For the sake of science try putting it in a 700 chassis and single feed it, if itll fit. Also try I'd cut it back 1" and recrown it. If that doesn't the last thing possible is a custom barrel but it'd be a true waste of money at that point. If you have a friend that could cut the chamber off and recharger it. Or cast the chamber to see what it is.
    On a last idea, what about headspace? Is it correct?

    Ship it back to Springfield and see what they say about it and will they fix it. If you got a lemon, will they at least make it right?

    • @quiksilv81
      @quiksilv81 11 місяців тому

      I doubt they will fix it because it’s shooting close to their guarantee. 1” at 50 yards with premium ammo.

    I think that weird nipple thing in the breech is the problem, I don’t own when of these, but I was able to load one in my friends store and every round that I ejected came out deformed

    I have been disappointed with the demonstrated accuracy of these rifles. The models with the wood stocks are very attractive, but if they don't shoot...
    My wife and I are currently shooting a CZ 457 AT-One, and 2 Savage MKII BTV rifles. All three shoot under .5" at 50 yards with NO modifications.
    You did convince me to try a tuner on one of our rifles. 🤔

    I went through this same process and same if not worse results. Have you talked to Springfield at all if so I’m interested what you heard from them. I’m currently working on getting a new barrel blank and going to see about barrel swapping it now worst factory 22 besides how decent the action feels

    What if you put a small amount of pressure on the barrel with something like a piece of foam. Ive done that in the past where the barrel being free floating wasnt idea for it and that little bit of contact with a piece of foam or cork made a difference.

    In my experience, cheap 22 guns are not worth your time. if you want to get a 22 for a young one I still would avoid the cheap guns and just go with a cz 457 or something in that price rang. you get what you pay for. buy ones cry ones

      The problem is that it’s not far from the Cz price point. My Cz 455 American will outshoot this all day everyday. Much better rifle for the money. Some of the wood stock Springfield 2020 22’s are close to $1000 msrp. That’s too big of a risk to take for something they advertise 1” at 50 yards. That guarantee is a joke lol. Most 22’s out there will shoot 1/2” or better at 50 with match ammo.

    Three things that might help is 1 bed the action and 2 try adjusting the action screws from 20 to 45 inch lbs in 5 in lb increments.
    Or just leave it in the store. Lol😂

      That is the first thing I thought of as well. Had a buddy that had a savage centerfire that was like a blunder bust. Shot 3” groups at 100 Lapped the barrel with some pinch in the muzzle end, sub half inch all day.
