- There’s a new term on the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form-contributor.
A contributor is anyone required to provide information, a signature, and consent and approval to have their federal tax information transferred directly into the FAFSA form. This may include the student, the student’s spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or a stepparent. Contributors are not financially responsible for the student’s education.
By providing consent and approval, a contributor’s federal tax information will be used to determine the student’s eligibility for federal student aid.
The 2024-25 FAFSA form is available for students attending college between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. When you submit your completed FAFSA form, you’ll get an email confirming that we received your form with preliminary information related to your eligibility for federal student aid. We’ll provide your FAFSA eligibility information to your school(s) and state in the first half of March. More information: StudentAid.gov/announcements-...
Pro tip: We strongly recommend that students start and complete their section of the 2024-25 FAFSA form first to save time and prevent errors. For more tips on completing the form head to StudentAid.gov/announcements-...

So if you are not contributing to your child’s college you still have to file Fafsa? Doesn’t seem fair to the student if you are not helping.
And of course they changed this right one. I no longer needed to be a dependent by default by age.
@@tiktoksbytopic1897what is the age ?
Just as an fyi- when you enter the contributor info on your account, the contributor must also list their name on their own Created FAFSA account just like you listed it otherwise they’ll never see the section to sign their portion. You also must make sure you sign your part as well prior to them signing! I had nothing but issues with this new method until I figured it out!! 😮
Well, that’s really interesting to hear more about this and this video same thing with the original two-year video.
My exhusband filled out the contributer information on my son's FAFSA form but submitted it without signing. He was not able to edit and return to the form. How does he sign the Contributer form? Please help. Thank you
Q:I am a parent as well as a student myself. I have not decided any notification to fill out as a contributor. How can I fill my portion out when I am registered already as a student?
BIG QUESTION here : as I understand, IF you are a "CONTRIBUTOR" -you are then required to have a FAFSA ID , which requires you to apply for this before filling out the FAFSA so you have it at hand.. Also I am confused and want to know if a Dependent Student with Married parents - who filed "Married filing Jointly" for our Taxes - will require myself AND MY HUSBAND to now have a Fafsa ID? I was hoping this little video supplied that information.
I found my own answer with a little searching if this may help someone else be prepared : www.marshall.edu/sfa/files/do-you-need-an-FSA-ID.pdf
@@overrunwithboys216 Oh my goodness, thank you!!! I'm a senior, and completing my FAFSA is already proving difficult. My parents have been frustrated since they know I don't have financial need they don't think it's worth it for me to do the FAFSA, but I wanted to make sure I got it done, and I just realized I wasn't sure whether my mom and stepdad needed FSA ID numbers or just my mom.
@@annalea3026 As I understand now both your parents "married filing jointly" will be required to have a FSA ID bc they need their permission to retrieve their Tax returns directly from the IRS. (Before only one parent needed to have an FSA ID) Also, if you think you don't qualify still fill out the FASFA as this helps you with any other Financial Aid, like work-study, Scholarships and other Student Loan choices available. Good luck!
Yea my local community college actually offers free tuition to all public school seniors in the district for their first year (12 credits a semester for two semesters I think), but in order to take advantage of that you NEED to do the FAFSA

FAFSA keep sending me a reminder to complete the FAFSA Parent Contributor form, but I'm unable to see my second student name. My second student has completed his part of the FAFSA is waiting on me completing the parent contributor part. How do I add his name? The new format is very confusing.
How did you create a account for the contributor
Has anyone's parent[ decided to enter your SSN under their e-mail and now you can't create your own account with that SSN?
I already have an account, but I can't enter my financial information, there is no such page....
So as a parent I am trying to access my daughters fafsa form on my account. I cant seem to fing her form on my account to sign and submit it. She has been trying to edit contributer info(me)on her account so I can have access. I log in to my account and I still cant seem to find her form to sign. Help. How can I sign on my behalf of my daughters fafsa form. Sorry really long comment.
Have you resolve this issue?
Please help because I’m facing the same problem
@@Tommy_tiger since my parents don't have ss# it is harder for me to get a signature. I called and said that I fill a attestation form and send a ID to an email to verify my case. So far I'm s waiting to get emailed.

Hello, first-time FAFSA form filer here. I am a student and I have a question regarding the contributor (Spouse) in the FAFSA application. I have filled and submitted the FAFSA application as an independent status however my husband didn't receive any email invite to fill in his financial info. I received an email confirmation after an hour of applying, and the confirmation email didn't mention anything about my husband if he needed to file his info. We live together and file our taxes as married jointly. I am confused and I want to know what I should do. Should I wait for the invite or does my husband just use his FSA ID and fill out his info without an email invite?
The invite is weird because my mom got the email and it wasn’t letting her sign anything it would say something like “can’t authorize on behalf of student”…
Please let me know if you find out how to proceed.
@@xizul hi, did you already submit your own application?
Hi I am also having the problem and it let me submit my form and sent me a confirmation email but did not send an email for my spouse to fill out their info even though they said it would.
@@judithmandujano223 I don't think it is supposed to, it just gets the information of your spouse. At least that's how mine was.
Do independent students need to file the contributor information?
Yes. If they are married, the spouse will be a contributor.
Also, my exhusband did not fill out a FASFA ID. Please help.
I'm a parent and was filling out the financial information and had to stop. When I went back to the application, to finish, I can't financial section. It almost seems like I need to sign the application and then hope that I can edit later (if it allows me). Has anyone else had this issue?
Same here😒
Same here, and no one is responding
Received an invite from my daughter for my contributor signature but when I press get started it has an error page. Anyone have this problem?
my mom cant find the invite, did you make your own fafsa? and where did you find the invite, in your email?
My wife (student spouse) received an invite and created a fafsa account but she wasn’t prompted to fill out her financial information or anything. What did we do wrong? Does it take time for them to send anything to my wife to fill out?

@@deliaguerrero6008 same here i called FASFA and was told to fill out a complaint. Absolutely ridiculous the deadline is June 30.
My ex-husband and I don't really talk and my daughter hasn't talked to him in three years. He will not have to pay child support after she graduates high school and will not be contributing to her college expenses. If he doesn't give us his information on the form, how will that affect our chances of getting fafsa aid?
If you (and spouse, if married) provided more than 50% of support for your daughter the prior year, then you are not required to have any of his info on the FAFSA. You are required to list how much child support received during 2022, but otherwise, shouldn't be required to get anything from him.
Any idea how I can add my spouse information on the 24-25 fafsa form? He does not have a ssn. We have tried putting all zeros but still the system doesn’t let us move forward. I need help to see how we can overcome this since the form is requesting his info since he is a contributor
Same thing here My husband does not have a ssn and it does not let me continue on the personal information. So I can’t create an ID for him.
@@missyenifer4735 have you made any progress with this? I have the same issue and have not been able to get through to FASFA after numerous emails and creating case IDs
How can I take one of my contributors off
very helpful
What can I do after I foil out my form SSA said your personal information doesn’t match our records
I called SSA
and all my information is correct
Where should I call now ???😢
Check the ssn you put when you applied for the FSA ID, make sure that's correct. That's typically the issue, at least in my experience.
Do both parents need a fafsa account to fill out the email link for contributor?
I believe it is one, but I’m not sure myself that’s why I came here. Wish they would be more specific
If you're married and filed married filing jointly, then only one contributer ID is required. If you're married, and filed separate tax returns, then both parents would need an ID. This is assuming you and your spouse are the student's biological or adoptive parents; or if you have remarried and you and your spouse (student's step-parent) provided greater than 50% percent of support for your child the prior year.
Alguien me puede decir si le ha pasado ,cuando hago sesion de cuenta con el numero q me dieron dice error y e para q mi madre firme en el formulario,es muy dificil llamamos y escribimos por la web y no responden ayuda.
