I found the using text to speech to read my book to me very useful. By listening to my book, I find a lot of issues.

You need an editor period. It doesn’t have to be a paid person. We all have writer friends, pass the book to that person to edit it. You as the author know what you were trying to say. You will end up seeing what you were trying to say but that might not be what’s on the page. And I agree with a lot of the information in this video

If you're new. You need to work with one in the beginning. Trust me 😂

Something I find helpful is changing the font of your manuscript. It puts it in a different perspective in a useful way.

This video is great not only for the suggestions made, but making me think about the issue.

I also think we are writing for normal people, not grammar specialists. I read a lot and have a good level of education. Most people will get carried away with the story. I'm not talking about spelling and basic grammar, but normal people won't notice a semi-colon where it should have been an em-dash!

I mostly agree with you and I really wish it were that simple but a lot of times many self-published titles get bad reviews only because of typos :/

Ever hear of The Busy Writer’s Guide series by Marcy Kennedy? It’s a bunch of how- to books that covers specific parts of writing. Each book teaches you about whatever it covers and gives just enough examples to learn it, and the writing exercises in them help you edit your manuscript. (You need a manuscript to do them). One of those books is called ‘Grammar for Fiction Writers’. They helped me a lot with my writing. The grammar book won’t turn anyone into an English teacher, but it’ll work wonders for fiction writing.

Mandi, I didn't use one for mine. I botched a few things, but did good.

If you're completely new to writing and you're on a budget, you may not be sure what type of editing you need and which ones you could skip(if any). But overall, self-editing is something that all writers need to do.
