I disagree with the idea that people become hackers because they believe the nonsense they hear on TV. Any hacker knows how to use a VPN and can access news from various sources. The first reason people become hackers is money, the second is recognition.
Then you haven't met russians, especially young ones. Despite the lack of TV, propaganda finds its way in schools, parents and over the internet. Oh, and russian nerds are running tech behind censorship and war efforts (and hacking), sincerely believing in their cause.
Imo you're right about the VPNs and the main motivations but would you listen the the news from another country if you think this is brainwashing ? Like during any world war : everyone makes propaganda while pointing at the enemies' propaganda telling it's brainwashing. And even if money if their biggest motivation, it's still relevant to talk about politics and points of view since they decided to steal westerner's money instead of stealing money or selling drugs to russian citizens or doing anything harmful to their own country. The only reason you'd bother with anti-forensics is if you're trying not to get caught and know if you do, you will get prison time. But if you're in a country that doesn't care about your crime, or even backs it, you probably won't feel the need to wipe logs or worry about OPSEC.

This is the biggest bs I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong the video is amazing as in graphics wise but please at least do some kind of research. Why hackers are from Russia most of the time is because most of the hacking resources are in Russian. First a child would like to get an advantage in games so he starts game hacking then he wants to get games for free so he starts game cracking then he gets deep into other things such as hacking actual servers etc... Look, don't get me wrong, I don't hate the video, but the thing it's just regurgitating western propaganda as in oh all Russians are after western countries or that oh the US is always the victim of the attacks on Russia. LOLOLOL Sharing this video on Facebook probably got one of my Hypervisor's DOS'ed by Russian hackers. It wasnt that bad of an attack, because there just isnt a whole lot you can do to it thats really going to break stuff, least nothing that cant be fixed easy enough. This video does a really great job of explaining the plight of some of the most majestic people on the internet, I wish more russians would play on my game servers, there is so much wasted talent in that country.

It wasnt that bad of an attack, because there just isnt a whole lot you can do to it thats really going to break stuff, least nothing that cant be fixed easy enough.
