I sometimes get that. I think best advice is, don’t wear it in the shower and if you do get it wet, give your watch and wrist a good dry before putting it back on. I take mine off for short periods in the day just to let my wrist breath a bit.
I have another suggestion: Order the UltraFit nylon strap (the one that comes on the Enduro) from Garmin. It’s not only lighter and very comfortable but is also infinitely adjustable, so you can snug it down for running and loosen it while sitting around.
Always take a toothbrush and soap to the back of the silicone band and to the back of the watch, this will alleviate any issues with irritation of the skin
Thank you great advice. I’m gonna try that. I’m also going to a different watchband and someone recommended cleaning it with dish soap every time I charge it some real good ideas
When I used to work in the Navy serving on a ship, I had the same issue all the time. I now am retired from the Navy and the issue is gone even wearing my Fenix 7 every day. The only solution for me when I had that issue was to get the fabric band. I suspect there is something about the ship's water (hardens?) from showers which triggered a rash of sorts when rubbed against the latex on my wrist, but that is just a guess. Other people will suggest keeping the watch clean which was never an issue when I had the problem.
@@morningcoach No problem... really wish I knew what caused issues on the ships but clearly my body wasn't liking something it came in contact with in combination with the latex.
Get the 47 mm . The larger one bounced around on my smaller wrist too Having said that, the fenix 8 is a disappointment. Not worth the upgrade. I've returned mine
I went from fenix 5x to 6x to instinct 2x solar. I had the same problem with the 2 fenix watches. It went away with the instinct 2x polymer caseback. I recently upgraded to the enduro 3 with the polymer caseback and since not having the metal back, I haven’t had the issue.
I have Galaxy watches and have had similar rashes - not as big though. Never bothered to look into how to prevent the irritation but will surely look into it now.
oh thank god the running community here on your youtube channel are so nice to provide their feedback, I am interested in getting this big watch but your video concerned me. I am hoping that garmin will make a new tactix watch version.
Yeah, it’s a great community. I just started running really and started doing videos so it’s been very impressive. I change the band on the watch and I’m gonna try to do a few other things. The community has been really great here.
I had very similar looking skin irritation caused by silver rings that I am wearing. Im my case it was not the ring itself. It was a detergent of some sort that I haven't washed out all the way. It stayed under the ring on the skin and I had same red spots like you do. My advise is to always take your Fenix down whenever you use any detergents or soap on your hands. Also clean the watch well with the soap and warm water every day and dry it well before putting it back on your wrist.
Bet you wouldn't have the issue with the 47mm version, the 51mm is ridiculous sizing unless you have body builder wrists, obviously not as good battery life as the 51mm but miles ahead of the apple watch you were using.
Yes, I would agree. The 47 probably would’ve been the best bet for me. I’m OK with it. I like a big watch. I’ve always wore one, but you’re right. The battery life on the 51 is really great but to be honest the 47 Would’ve been just miles ahead of the Apple Watch with battery life too thanks for the comment. 👊🏼
I think you have to change the original watch band. I always buy aftermarket ones for all of my Garmin watches because the standard ones are too stiff and don't conform properly to your wrist. Any aftermarket ones I find are way better than the original. Also the watch has to be tight pressed against your wrist so the sensors can read well into the skin. A loose fit won't be as accurate.
I wear mine 24/7. Except in the shower. I have had that same issue when I was in a more humid climate. I believe it was taking too long to dry post workouts. I prefer it on tighter during activity and loser when I am not. That seemed to help let the skin dry post workouts. But I had to let it heal up first before anything helped. So I would give that a try. You could also wash ur hands and wrist after ur workouts and u stop sweating and hand dry things. To see if that helps.
For the wrist band heart rate monitor to work properly, the watch needs to be firm on your arm. Tighten it up a notch. When you shake your wrist, the watch shouldn't move. I too use the 51 mm watches because I want the battery life and I don't wear my reading glasses when I'm exercising. Good luck! I also want to add, the injury to your arm looks more like a burn. Don't allow sunscreen or other chemicals on your skin under the watch.
It is the metals reacting with sweat, soap and maybe creams (eg sun cream)… if you shower with it make sure there is no soap trapped underneath as you are experiencing contact dermatitis..if you go on a long sweaty run then make sure you don’t sit around with it after.. make sure you wash the watch and arm with water, especially if you use sun cream.
Sure you don’t have a Nickel allergy. My solution was to go with ceramic or titanium back. Stainless steel does not work for me . Your rash looks very much like the Nickel allergy.
Very weird situation, i read in the comments the shower thing and i think it’s a good advice too… great times at 55 boss! Keep digging. I see a potential master in you.
When I got my Venu several years ago it did the same thing to me ( def rash) I have no issues now. I wonder if it is a reaction to a coating on the watch that has now worn off? Idk. I'm looking at getting the fenix 8 solar, not anxious to go through that again.
thanks I am being real careful using it for training and sleep and trying and cleaning it. In the office using the Apple Watch... rash has almost healed
Tight for training, a bit loose for daily life. A nylon band will also make a difference. And sometimes you need to change wrist if your wrist gets irritated. The 47 is probably still plenty of battery, same screen estate,..
If the back cover is stainless then it will have nickel in it. Allergies to nickel are not uncommon and result in a rash. My wife has a nickel allergy. Her Venu 2 is plastic, so fine. She also cannot use any silicone band because it causes a rash under the band. Any cloth band is fine for her. Yours does look like a rash to me, but I'm not a dermatologist and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn. :)
Hahaha I love your comment. I switched to a cloth band so far so good. I’m wearing on the right side until that rash kind of goes away. It’s almost healed up. I think I’m good. I’m gonna clean it after every run which she normally should do anyways and charge it when I’m in the shower, but I didn’t have that problem with the Apple Watch because it was a glass back but thank you so much and I’ll trust you even if you didn’t stay at the Holiday Inn.
The back is titanium on that watch and that should be neutral to skin. I never heard of allergies while wearing titanium and for sure it doesn't contain nickel. Maybe the watch scratching the wrist bone? A trail band (elastic one) might be better despite the fact the silicon one that comes with the watch is pretty elastic and soft.
Idk why but I’ve never had my garmin bang against my wrist and I run all the time, do you swing your arms like a sprinter on runs? Cause I don’t swing my arms real hard. Maybe that’s why idk 🤷♂️
I don't run but I had same issue with epix 2 pro. I had some sort of allergy reaction to the titanium casing of the watch. I contracted garmin but I only was asked to not wear watch 24/7 which was stupid to me because it was the reason to but it to wear it 24/7. After while my body adopted to it and is better. 10 months later all is good. No more issues but it was very difficult couple of months.
Not the band. The watch is rubbing off the skin and hair. Try removing the hair off the wrist and I think it would be irritated . Second option could be it’s wet with sweat . In which case during activity switch left and right if lasts hours. Just some thoughts
I’ve had the same exact issue with my epix. I noticed if I wash the back of my watch with soap and water after I stop sweating or after I shower, I don’t get that rashy thing on my wrist. Idk I figured I was just too salty? 😂
This skin irritation is normaly from nickel. The backplate of your watch has possibly parts of nickel in the metal. Cover the back with a transparent tape and try if this solves the problem. Kind regards and good luck.

Is it a bruise or a rash? I actually get a rash from the metal, an issue i never had a problem with on the Apple watch since its glass backed, but now i take it off after workouts for a bit and it seems to be doing better.
It feels like a bone bruise, but that could be what’s going on. I didn’t take it off for a few days. I did take it off the shower thanks. I’m gonna try some solutions. I did order a new band too, but maybe that’s what’s going on. My wrist just isn’t used to it thank you so so much for the comment.

I have the Epix Pro right now and the Fenix 8 on order and they’re both 51 mm watches. I chose that size because of the extra battery life as well. I have noticed that it bruises my wrist when I have it too loose. So I would tighten it pretty snug especially when you’re doing any activity with it. Because while your moving, it will cause even more damage if its too loose on your wrist.
Weird I never gotten that before - it is in the exact spot of the watch. I used the Apple watch for years and it mysteriously happened when I put the watch on. The best for tightening on the wrist are canvas straps, they tighten precisely and the watch does not move. like Enduro 3.
Thank you ordered some!!!
I just returned the Fenix 8 47mm because it was too big, I prefer the Forerunner 965.
Thank you thats the plan and a new fiber band coming today - freaking still healing.
Your poor skin has dermatitis. Nothing to do with your watch per se.
Weird I never gotten that before - it is in the exact spot of the watch. I used the Apple watch for years and it mysteriously happened when I put the watch on. So it HAS to be the watch I have never had anything close to this on my body. LOL It is almost gone since I haven't worn the watch. Weird - going to have to do something differently then the Apple watch. New band coming will keep you posted. Thanks!
@@morningcoach I don’t remember if you went for stainless steel or titanium, but perhaps the material on the case is an irritant to your skin?
Not sure but the Apple watch is glass never had it but going to be real careful, not wear in the shower etc.. clean it after workouts, new band. Something my skin didn't like. Thanks for sure :)
Drmike talks about this - it is common rash that can happen wearing any type of smartwatches - ua-cam.com/users/shortsNqN8ZkJKwGo?feature=shared
Thanks I’ve never had that happen before so it might be the metal instead of the glass back. I appreciate the video.
buy a third party band. garmins bands cause skin irritations. mine are in the drawer.
