Tobias is the only official member of the band, but as of recently, the other current live members have been low key announcing that they’re playing for Ghost via their social media accounts. Plus, the Ghost fans are detectives and so they’ve figured out who’s under the mask. Ghost culture has grown very attached to some of the people under the mask like Aether ghoul, Rain ghoul, Dew (Sodo) ghoul.
There's a lot of cool little details in this video I think. The out of focus like an old Italian tv show. The sudden focus on the smoke like someone felt asleep at the camera. Even the spiral cables the guitarist use. And the cheap decor is wonderful too🙂. I know Tobias and the other guys quite well, and this is just their kind of humour 😁
Yeah, this was the first official videoclip. There was a teaser for a video music of "Ritual" but the video itself was never released. And this is Papa Emeritus II :D About official members... they had a stable formation for the first 2 albums and it looked like a regular band. The fan community knew them, discussed about them, etc... During the recording of the 3rd album almost all of the members simply left and sued Tobias for "not paying them enough". That's when Tobias said in court that Ghost was always a solo project and they were hired musicians and were being paid as so. After that, the band started to change members almost weekly, we couldn't even keep track of who was or wasn't in the band anymore, so during that time it was really just "Tobias and his hired guns". Until the Prequelle tour, when the line-up finally started to stand stable and haven't changed so far, so even though we know they're all hired stage musicians, we can again see Ghost as a band, knowing the members, their particularities and all.
fun fact, papa II's mask was the first original one, as papa I's mask was just bought from a regular store. though, of course, the makeup on top of the masks was original. it's also cool how the makeup is different enough between the papas that you can tell them apart just from that
Those guitars are Gibson RD's, which were originally made in the 70's and have a had a few limited runs since. They are very heavy. Ghost worked with Swedish guitar maker Hagstrom to create a similar model the "Fantomen" - which you can see in the Rats video. The style of the video is supposed to look like an old soundstage from the 70's. The band was very mysterious back then.
Papa 1 is the first album, old and decaying. Papa ll is this second album, menacing and spooky. Papa lll is third album, Mr. Sexy tuxedo man. Cardinal Copia is fourth album, whimsical and fanciful with moves. Papa lV is cardinal Copia ascended to Papa of the fifth album, glorious and magnificent.
Also, Papa Nihil is the first in the current lore. Who we saw in the music video for dance macabre, transformed into papa by sister imperator and who we saw perform in the Mary on a Cross video as sister imperator being pregnant. We see him now as an elder in the Ghost episodes
This is Papa Emeritus II ! He's my favorite one. I love how serious and stern his face looks, and I love the very minimal black+white+emerald color scheme. He hits a perfect balance between simplicity and elegance that the others don't. (The first had a poorly made costume, and the third and fourth are overly elaborate for my tastes) Emeritus is pronounced "Eh-MEH-ri-tus," and it's actually a title suffix, not a name! It basically means that someone USED to hold that title, but doesn't anymore. You could say it's literally an anti-title, which fits with the whole "anti-pope" thing.
You should watch the Papaganda videos. They tell the absolute thruth about Papa II. Or maybe not😄. It is the same old man mask you see in the Year zero vid, but with makeup on btw👍
Don't remember where I heard this, but I remember Tobias saying that secular haze was meant to sound more like vikings crossing the sea instead of being associated with that circus feel. I guess that's just how it turned out. As for the EPs, If You Have Ghosts from the If You Have Ghost EP is a must in my opinion. I do believe it's a cover of Roky Erickson's song but Ghost does a phenomenal job with it
After you finish Infesstisumam and before you start Meliora, you should check out the two 'Papaganda' videos for some hilarious insight into Papa II's personality.
Tobias is the only official member who participates in the writing and recording. As far as we know, no member of the band has participated in writing or recording since probably the third album and that was Martin. Since Ghost hired new people, the touring band has not changed much except adding a few backup singers. So, the touring band, for now, seems to be effectively members of Ghost since they do appear in some videos and are featured in the live Mary on a Cross video. Hell, lots of Ghost fans know them, follow them, buy their music, go to their solo shows etc.
If you want to see Papa one, you should react to ghosts first concert in London. The Underground. It looks like it’s in a basement club. Maybe as a live stream.
Also, what were people thinking about not knowing who the band was? I, for one, was fucking enamored with this band's lore/mystery. I used to be so in love with Ghost. I still am, but I used to too.
This song and video was my introduction to Ghost back in 2014. Bought Opus Eponymous and Infestissumam right away. Saw them at the House of Blues in Houston,TX 2014. This song is so special to me. I got Ghost tatted on me. 😂❤😍
@@rockdariff Hell yeah, dude. Papa 2 is my dude. I'll always miss this incarnation. But, I'm growing partial to Papa 4. But, he's probably about to go bye bye. So, I'm looking forward to who Tobias introduces to us next.
This was their first music video, and I had been listening to them for about a year, and it’s exactly like you thought. I didn’t know who or what to think! I’ve now seen them six times and still love them.
This is Papa Emeritus 2 he’s badass cool . There’s not much video on papa 1 but there is enough to see what he’s like . I’d have loved to have been into Ghost when this Papa was around as he’s so cool 😎
This is Papa Emeritus 1! Known as the old one, people often call him Primo Papa Emeritus 2, the scary one, is often called Secundo/Secondo Papa Emeritus 3, the hot one, is often called Terzo These three are all blood related brothers, sons of Papa Nihil (the guy in Danse Macabre and Kiss the Go-goat, lore-wise the first band frontman) And the current Papa, Papa Emeritus 4, is often called Copia bc before he was anointed he was Cardinal Copia, and also he is the implied bastard son of of Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil. ....Yeah it's ehhh,, it's complicated
I know how I was thinking. That this band had a special sound and power that was unlike anything I had heard before. At first his voice threw me off but after a short while it became perfect for the band. \,,/ \,,/
This was one of the first songs I heard by ghost, and I fell in love with it instantly. Love the intro, the carnival sound coupled with the evilness 😈 And the drums, gah I love everything about this track! Though I can agree with you that the guitar solo is a little weak.
If you're not already familiar with Opeth, check them out, another progressive metal band from Sweden, setting the bar for others now for over 2 decades now. Fun fact, I think Fredrik from Opeth was involved with the lead guitar work on Ghost latest album.
Can you please react to Tobias older band called "Repugnant"? Pure and classic death metal, I swear the first time I listened to that band I couldn't believe the vocalist was actually Tobias Forge. XD
Definitely check put MCC. And Secular Haze is Papa Emeritus ll "the 2nd". I can't wait til u get to Monstrance Clock on this album. Keep em coming! I check every damn day. Lmao. Super Ghost fan. And my 4 yr old son, Tobias, knows all the lyrics to almost all the songs!
You've got to check out " If You Have Ghosts" . There is a video recorded in a studio somewhere and it is just wicked! Dave Grrohl produced it and is rumored to have played drums on the track. Tobias isn't wearing face paint on his mask . Just a bald old man in sunglasses. It's so cool.
The cons is, they never play it on the stage again, last time is on Papa II era they great at play their song live on stage, but this song not really a rockin' song on stage, still its magnificent my second i song a heard from them, after square hammer
Since you keep repeating your love of Death Knells outro, PLEASE watch a live version they extend the outro and go silhouette, its incredibly atmospheric you will love it
The ghouls don’t play Explorer-style guitars. These guitars are a Swedish brand and model: the Hagstrom Fantomen. I agree with you they’re a killer shape, they’re extremely well built, and allow for a range of stellar tones .
if you take the album in order, the best version of the next song is the accustic one its a live studio version video, its okay to listen the accustic version first then the original studio version later or just watch the original off cam i believe the title is Jigolo Har Meggido
Does anyone remember the initial tease for this track when you could go onto their website and hover over different icons to play the part of each individual instrument from the track?
What is a multi scale guitar? Or do you mean microtonal? I stumbled upon Ghost 2010 at Sweden Rock Festival. Drawn in instantly, they were a much much more dark and mysterious band from their Inception, presentation/atmosphere wise
So a multiscale guitar is also called a fan fret…my orange kiesel I use in my bands track “Toppleganger” playthrough…the video is at the top of my channel page or in my The Cardinal Endeavor playlist
@@rockdariff ah, now I get what kind of guitar you're talking about! Those are cool. Always wondered why increasingly slanted frets on some "djent" guitars. But now I get the function of them, that's neat
Also this was actually PAPA II
