You don't need a DB meter, this thing is quiet. Its enough power to power a medium sponge filter, when I tried splitting it to two outputs it wasn't strong enough for that. Still super happy with this purchase
what would you consider a medium sponge filter?

I can certainly attest to these being both quiet and efficient with power. I ran mine on test using a 20000mah power bank and it was still going after 4 days before I disconnected it. Picked one up via ebay in the UK after seeing this video a little while back. Thanks Cory.

I love mine! I’ve been running it for my snail’s sponge filter for months non-stop.
These USB air pumps are great to add a bit more oxygen to your tank or to run a small sponge filter. I have had so many of these pumps stop working after a month or two. Out of 15 USB pumps I only have 3 that are still working and have been running for around 4 months now. The longevity isnt that great from them but they are great for emergency or for travelling.Would not recommend for continuous use.
yes definitely, mine often just stop working properly after 1 month of continuous plugin and require a tap on it and also it just much weaker
Yeah. I bought some identical pumps direct from another source. (Cheaper, but don't come with the power supply). The pump mechanism itself seems like it would last a long time, but unfortunately, the motor that runs it is a basic little brushed motor, and the brushes will wear over time, limiting the lifespan.
I've had 4 of them running for a few months now, and the first one just died. No bubbles, and it was slightly warm. A friend has been running one for a month or two and said that it's been cutting in and out, so I expect that they're just not going to cut it for full time use. It's unfortunate, because if they had a brushless motor, they would probably be pretty ideal.

Bought one of these after you first video featuring this. I used it to power a foam filter in a 10 US gallon tank; I was so pleased with it I bought two more to serve another two 10 gallon tanks.
Just placed an order for one, the never clog airstone and cleaning sponge . Thank you for making this available! Can’t wait for it show for my new nano tank on my desk at work. I have never seen a bunch of grown men on my crew get so excited over a little fish tank before. They have shown interest and are talking about starting their own, so, I will push them your way. One of the guys mentioned how they hated how loud the air pumps are. The rest of them chimed in with agreement. I would love to prove them wrong.

I purchased two of these elsewhere because you were out of stock, Just went thru several tornadoes and they saved me buying batteries. Just purchased two more now they are back in stock. Much cheaper than the other place I might add. Great product!

Incredible product, provided you understand it's limitations. Don't expect it to run multiple air stones but absolutely perfect for an individual air supply to your aquarium. I use mine for hatching brine shrimp. Pump is dead quiet, only noise is the bubbles. Great find Cory.
added this pump and a mini hikari sponge filter to my 10 gallon, very happy with the combo...

Just got mine in today and all hooked up. Compared to a whisper 10 this thing is nearly silent. It’s shockingly quiet, I highly highly recommend getting one of these. Mine is running a 20g high and a 10g with Coop sponge-filters and it is working masterfully👌🏻

I order one on my last aquarium co-op order and it's amazing how quite it is and I actually have it running a large spring filter
I got the Nano USB a while back and added a switch with a 5V constant current circuit and quick connects to use it with the USB, a power bank or a small solar panel for emergency bubbles. It’s quiet enough, but the size, versatility and price point is the real benefit.

Great update on the air pump, have you done (or considered) a video on how much air you need for an aquarium? For example a pump rated for 50gal aquarium. Do you really need one this size? (Many variables) Cheers! 🇨🇦

Cory -- for larger tanks, can you use a 'T' fitting and plumb two of the USB air pumps together to the same air stone/sponge filter? I've replaced all of my air pumps with these, but am setting up a 120g tank, looking for quiet air options! Thanks!

I bought 3 from Cory and love them! However, instead of just the sound, how does it compare with air volume? I think a good test would be to determine the wattage used per volume of air output.

That would of been perfect for when I transported my golden arowana 5 hours to the new house! luckily he made it and is now happily back in his pool pond. Going to have to look in to getting a few for emergency backup if my main pump fails.

I sleep with three of the same green usb right by my head every night, doesn’t bother me any and I’m a very light sleeper!! Also about to be moving my tanks soon and am so thankful to have them!! My shrimp and fancies don’t seem bothered by the bubble output at all 😁
I have tried Eheim, Tetra and other pumps to search for the most quiet pumps.. But who knew this $8.00 would beat them all. So quiet and great. Bought two with one as backup. Amazing engineering.

Looking forward to more tests! You probably will need to standardize your distance from the pump to the SPL meter as you start comparing the really quiet pumps. Any idea how the USB pump compares to the Cobalt or aPump?
I'm running 2 of these on my 29g, unless I'm standing very close to the tank I can't hear them.

Not that these pumps need any more five-star reviews, but I bought a couple from the Co-Op and am very happy with them. They will put out loads of bubbles through one of the new never clog airstones, are essentially inaudible in ambient room noise, and run for over a day on my worn out 10,000 mAh USB battery. If I didn't already have several normal air pumps, or were just starting out setting up a tank for the first time, I'd strongly consider using these pumps instead of the traditional ones.
The only downside I can see would be longevity. I can't see these lasting for years or decades with 24/7 use, but time will tell. The store has had one going near Murphy's tank 24/7 for a number of months and it's still going strong. I asked a store employee if many customers were using these as a main air source, and he said that they were, and he hadn't heard of any problems with them.
Last fall we had a 36 hour power outage, during which I lost several fish due to asphyxiation. One of these pumps would have kept everyone in the tank alive. It's well worth having one of these on hand in case that happens to you.
Would this be good to run on a 20 gallon long tank? I just ordered some other stuff off the sight and was hoping this would be good enough for the 20 gallon.
I have one from you along with a small sponge filter. I put them in a 5.5 gal. I am setting up for my first ever pea puffer when the tank is ready. We cannot hear the pump at all, only the bubbles from the sponge filter.
It would be interesting to see if those first two pumps would be quieter if they were on, let's say, sponge footings to reduce the vibration it may be transferring to the surface of the table. Just a thought. Great video!! I've been looking for a super-quiet USB powered pump to use as an exhaust for a composting toilet I have, and this looks like it'd be a perfect fit! Thanks!

I took rubber casing off and noticed that the motor was rated 12 volt so i run it of small solar panel been running 2 weeks no problem

It is outside on a pond so doesn’t really matter, still quiet with more output but interested to see how long it lasts

set mine up last night.... wow... if it didnt blow bubbles I wouldn't know it was on... the clicking sound in the video is deceiving... it doesn't really click.
How long have you had it running for continuously? Is the life of it short?
Can it handle the medium sponge for a 20 gallon? Is that enough filtration for a 20gal?

I sleep with a white noise machine set to a fan sound setting so I feel like the hum of a air pump won’t bother me since my aquarium is on my nightstand. Either way I’m glad I found this video since I’m switching from a ‘hang on the back’ filter to a sponge filter and need a good air pump choice. Thank you
I've been using a fairly small 6V air pump the size of a toy DC motor which I soldered to a USB cable to power it, which is 5V. I have it on overnight, so the oxygen levels would be stable in the planted tank. It's silent but it rattles and it's annoying. I'm glad this is a purchasable product now. (I do realize mine rattles because it's missing a volt which wouldn't be an issue with a pump that's originally intended to be powered by 5 volts.)

These seem like a great tool to have for an emergency, or while transporting fish, but for everyday use in an aquarium, I wonder what the longevity will be. I don't know how long they've been on the market, but if anyone has had one going for an extended amount of time, I'd love to hear about it.
@More Grey Thanks for the info. I bought a couple about six months ago, after a power outage here. A while back, I decided to set one up in a 10 gallon shrimp tank running a medium Aquarium Co-Op sponge filter, and it's been working well for a bit over three months now. I'll update this if/when it fails.

@@CarsonRH I bought a pair of generic pumps from Amazon, but they look identical to those in the video. The exact listing isn't available anymore, but there are quite a few similar listings. It's still working perfectly.
I've been running 4 of them continuously on sponge filters, and one of them died after about 4-5 months.
I actually use it to power what is essentially a sponge filter (it is a very small corner unit container that has bio-media actually) in a 20 gallon housing some mosquitofish and water levels are perfect. Not sure if it's ideal, but water parameters are on point for these relatively hardy fish.
Would this be ideal for brine shrimp hatchery too ?
BigClive did a teardown of one. He found that they use a resistor to draw more power and thus avoid having your powerbank auto shutoff (because it does not sense a load). If you remove the resistor, the power use is even further drastically reduced (I think it was half a watt). If you are using an older power bank, or powering this directly from a battery, you may want to consider this option.
i have a question.. does the length of your airline tubing affect how well your air pump works, so i have a 36 gallon custom tank it is really deep made for the corner it is tall, so if the air line is say 6ft long will the pump struggle to pump air down deep in the tank or having shorter air line tubing be better
I think I need this one. I have a bunch of 10g or less tanks all throughout my house. I've bought some regular air pumps from Petco but they either fail or are too loud or vibrate and I can't seem to get them not to or they'll vibrate off the cloth I have them on. Maybe I need a bunch of these instead.

Quick question: for the usb air pump, do I turn it off at night? or I leave it 24/7? Also, can I put the air stone or sponge filter inside the sump area instead of the main tank area? The sump area have a water pump that will push the water directly into the main tank area, will fish still be able to get the benefit of the extra oxygen from the air pump?

@@crazysithslave I have a battery pack hooked up to the mains then hooked into the air pump so if the power goes out the air pump keeps going.

I just received my USB air pump from you all. I plugged it into a XINYOU XY-2822 Air Pump Double Sponge Water Filter. I noticed it doesn't not put out a lot of pressure or bubbles. Should I be concerned? Not sure how much it should push out or how much is needed for proper filtration.

Is this air pump meant to be run long term, or is this a temporary solution? I have a 5 gallon nano tank and I would like a silent air pump and this seems to fit the bill.
Great video. One suggestion is if you could get a Kill-a-watt device so we could see the power consumption at various settings of the different units. It isn't number 1 on the considerations for air pumps, but it is something i'm curious about. It wouldn't add but a few seconds on each unit to show those figures also.

I'm interested in using the Nano USB Air Pump on a pico. A lot of people just run an air pump on pico for flow, and I'd like to proof it against power failure. I saw this same pump on Amazon and it said it runs 50 hours...my concern is, is that the entire life of the product? Or just how long the battery runs before recharging? The Aquarium Co-Op listing doesn't mention this that I see and none of the Amazon sellers were clear on this point either.
What is the air flow per minute of those?
