This brings back memories of helping my mom make theater and choir clothes. She'd have me cut and pin. I liked that part but hated getting the fittings! I really enjoyed this explanation (I'm a quilter who wants to get braver about making clothes.)
Thank you for the idea of comparing something that fits you against the pattern to help determine which size to use. It sometimes feels "impossible" to guess which size will actually fit.

I’m not a fan of the PDF patterns either. I have a stash of patterns that I have had for 30 years. Some I have used some still new. 😮 I have thinned them out over those years as well. I usually donated them to thrift stores. But recently I have looked for a pattern for certain things and realized the price of patterns is INSANE 😮. So now I go to thrift stores and look for patterns LOL. 😂😂😂 my mother would roll her eyes for sure. I have never been a fan of Burda. And vogue have never been in my price range. I am enjoying your instructions 😊. I developed a bad habit of only looking at the pictures because I either don’t understand or a tend to disagree with the written instructions. As a teacher I am sure you would have advise reading. 😂 this is where my earlier comment of being a bit lazy, came in. I did learn a VERY important lesson very early like back in the 70’s when I was in 4H. Fabric type. You are right. VERY IMPORTANT. Bless you and your videos. 😊
Hi Catherine, I also use patterns over and over again, but I glue them on to pattern drafting paper (or wall paper lining), I’m a bit clumsy and this seems to work for me. Patterns are expensive now aren’t they! 😀
Forgive me if I'm being dense, but at 26:28, you demonstrate that the grain line always goes parallel to the selvage. Didn't you draw a line perpendicular to the selvage? Maybe I'm not understanding what the pattern means when it is indicating "selvage"? Aargh... thank you!
Ok now I see what you mean. I had thought the shaded parts of the layout indicated selvage, but now I see that's not the case. Now I see the one you were pointing to was a "window-pane" type fold and the selvage was parallel with the selvages in the horizontal center. I think it clicked when I saw part 2. Great series, thank you!

Yes, but it is kind of involved. You make the front shorter when you take up some of the fabric in a dart, so then you also have to shorten the back. It's probably a worthwhile alteration for you 🥰
"Ease" is when one piece of fabric is intentionally cut longer than the one that it gets sewn to. For example, the sleeve is usually cut a bit bigger than the armhole, and then it is "eased" into the seam. This makes the sleeve more comfortable and allows you to move more freely.

Is it possible to add darts to a pattern that doesn't have darts? I am a busty girl and I think darts are much more flattering on me.
