As always, a very helpful video. Another tip that came to mind is to confirm that the front door buzzer is working. My cousin lives in a walk up building, on the 4th floor, and the buzzer has been broken for months, so he needs to go downstairs 4 flights of stairs every time someone comes to visit him.
Not only should you check water pressure, but also how hot the water is. I lived for 5 years in an apartment with no hot water. At most, it was warm when taking a shower.
Why arent those trash bags in trash cans? I never been to NYC, but I find it very odd when I see that trash is just laying on the curb in videos. A pile of trash bags right next to planted flowers..whats the point? Where I live (NC)..trash in dumpsters or cans, closed tight with lids.
thanks for the informative video! do you think you'll show other parts of NYC besides the city and brooklyn? Queens, Bronx, SI? I feel like people sometimes forget about those parts a little since the city can be really charming
Depending on your pocket, real estate brokers, goggle nyc apts, walk the streets and talk to bldg mgmt, they are helpful to let you know if an apt might be available
If you ask any New Yorker, how did they find their apartment, they will probably answer: Craigslist or StreetEasy. Both websites are great options for apartment hunting. I can understand your hesitation regarding Craigslist. Please watch my video about how to spot and avoid apartment scam in NYC. Link in the description box.
Since Manhattan has the fastest growing rents it will be wiser to check apartments outside of Manhattan, and focus on Brooklyn and Queens. In Brooklyn you should check the following Neighborhoods: Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick and Crown Heights. In Queens you should check: Jackson Heights, Sunnyside and Woodside.
I'm going to be moving to NY with less than 8,000.My goal is at the end of February. what are some good cheap areas for a 19 yr old girl, BTW I'm going by myself. do u have any tips for safe places, I was thinkin harlem, cause I like the atmosphere and it's close to the city, but someone from NY, told me about a neighborhood that's next to a bridge, (not brooklynn bridge), that would be safer.
He was probably referring to George Washington Bridge. The name of the neighborhood is Washington Heights, which is located in upper Manhattan, from 157 street to 193 street. You can find affordable options there, as well as in Harlem.
As someone living in the Midwest that would like to move to the city I find it very weird that in 2016 you still have dead spots in NYC thought that was a rural thing. What's a good neighbor hood or is better to take a vacation and explore the city
NYC is covered with high-rise buildings. When your apartment is located on the 38th floor, the cellphone coverage can be spotty at times. If cost is no factor in your decision, stay downtown, in Chelsea, or in the West Village, which are not touristy neighborhoods. But if you want to be in the middle of everything, Times Square offers tons of hotels for all budgets.
My tip which is relevant to any city: Visit the apartment both during the day and at night to get a sense of noise and atmosphere.

I keep hearing horror stories about apts in NYC. You gotta watch out for rats and cockroaches?? Sounds like a nightmare!
Yes, that is why I don't want to move back to NYC
How that apartment costs per month? more and less...
The monthly rent of all the apartments we saw was between $2500 to $3000.
That's kind of expensive for washington heights. How many bedrooms? I know people paying that much to live in chelsea
Jason Young Washington heights is in the Bronx tho..
How can an apartment that small have rats I would think they would need space too

Non vorrei un appartamento con la spazzatura sotto le finestre ......
in other words do not move to the city. Instead move to Austin Texas and fly to NY on occasion.
i really like your videos , but you should invest in a good camera
If you're not a hustler you shouldn't be in New York. That place is for ambitious people.
