    I was lucky enough to see The Drifters live, they were sensational, the whole building vibrated to their sound. Brilliant group, brilliant songs .

    What a catchy tune! He has a great voice. Love how he hits those high notes. I'm glad music like this is still played on oldies radio stations!

      stephen brower ....I believe you are referring to Rudy Lewis.....I agree with you .....Rudy was an extraordinary talent.....His version of " Some Kind of Wonderful " is the most famous example of his warm and soulful voice .

      @@mikevallen999 I totally agree and I strongly feel that Johnny Moore and Rudy Lewis were the absolute best lead singers ever for The Drifters! They were both so great I can't rank one over the other!! This is not slighting Ben E. King or Clyde McPhatter in any way!

    The fabulous Johnny Moore - who along with Rudy Lewis were the best lead vocalists the Drifters ever had - and two of the greatest vocalists ever!!!

    My big brother passed away unexpectedly March 10. He LOVED the oldies, even though some might say he was "out of date." Every time I hear these great oldies I will always think of him.

    What a range of voice!!
    Heard this a lot growing up.
    Yes---who cares what flick you see as long as the one you love is with you--hold hands--steal a kiss or two and just cuddling!!
    Those days are gone now!!
    Pop corn was better too!!

    The Drifters, whoever was in the group at any given time, never made a song that wasn't simply enjoyable. They were great.

    Nothing better than soul, this is the kind of music I crave! My generations music just doesn't do much for me. I really do love the drifters.

      Thank you :) I admit I do like some music nowadays, but I don't listen to the radio because it's full of pop crap. I prefer folk and anti-folk, then of course soul.

    Absolutely, %100 agree. There is nooooo comparison. I didn't grow up during this era. I came a little later, but developed an appreciation for the talent and originality of back then.

    Remember hearing this at the youth club circa 1975. All the girls were dancing to it, they looked great. Also The Bump - Joe Tex was a bit hit on the dance floor. Began my love affair with soul music right there.

    Real talent back then did not need fake gimmicks.
    Come to think of it, groups like this were and are better than anything computer generated.

    Every time that I hear this song I think of My Pops'. He knew a few of the members, and he use to play their songs to no end. Thanks for sharing this, it brings back great memories of the times that I spent with my Dad.

    Only three singers -- left to right -- Gene Pearson, Johnny Moore and Charlie Thomas. This must have been filmed around early 1966 when Johnny Terry was missing gigs due to illness, shortly before he left the group.

    Wikipedia says the Drifters went through about 62 singers in the groups career. The manager evidently did not want to pay them, and that's what drove Benny King away as well as others.

    I have been looking for "sitting in the back row of the movies" for so long, I didnt know who sang the song. I remember the words from my youth whilst in hospital 1972 age 9 with my transistor radio on 3XY. It has bought so many memories back

      +Andrew Tebby I assume you mean "Kissing in the back row of the movies" -- that is a different song, recorded by The Drifters after they had relocated to the UK in the early 1970s. It's also to be found on youtube.

    Me, I'm a Clyde McPhatter fan. The founding member of the Drifters, Clyde was one of the most widely imitated singers of the late 50's and early 60's. Smokey Robinson said Clyde was one of his idols.

    you do know that there were several forms of the drifters, look at today, there are two bands still going, 'the orignal drifters' and ricky sampsons 'drifters' there has been loads of incarnations, but the best remembered line up was that with the Late Great Johnny Moore at the lead.
