One of my greatest memories in BUD/s (i didn't make it) in the early 90s was a SCARS instructor showing us how to disarm with a weapon up close and then he said, "now let me show you what to do if they are 10 feet away, RUN!" It was pretty funny. God bless you brother, keep up the great content.

I've never understood the people who mock the idea of doing hand to hand training (or knife training, or even pistol training) because they "already have what they need and that'll never happen." It just seems like trying to be a carpenter with nothing but a framing hammer. Sure, you'll do okay for a large chunk of the job, but wouldn't you rather have a complete toolkit just for those times where the hammer isn't going to work? I carry every day, but I've used the jiu-jutsu and krav that I learned several times and never had to pull a gun yet. I would never sacrifice EITHER option if possible.

Honestly, I don't know if a person who drew a gun on you is going to get that close to you unless they are not trained very well. If I draw a gun on someone (which I hope I never do) I am not getting closer than 5 or 6 feet and certainly no closer than an arms length away. Will this scenario happen from time to time, sure but I do think it would be very rare.
It is honestly surprising how many criminals really aren’t trained or knowledgeable about handling firearms & they often aren’t thinking clearly.
It's been a while now, but I took KM for a couple years, back some years ago. I'd say the biggest takeaway for me was not any particular techniques (we called it "crotch" maga for all the ball strikes), but just to go at it HARD in counterattack, enough to put the dude down, AND then gtf outta there. The relentless counterattack was what it was all about, and then leave the scene...for your own safety when in lower levels. Once you got to higher levels, GTFO meant don't stand around admiring your handiwork, because if the cops show up you might just get arrested for what you did to your attacker.

What should you do if the handgun in a compact or sub compact or even worse a micro compact because there is really no barrel to grab onto?
Use wrist locks to disarm. Similar to a knife disarm.
I like seeing these videos, as it gives me something to practice and think about how to react in these situations. However, as a woman, how realistic is this technique going to be for me? Especially if I need to use force to strike if the gun won't release from their hands?
This is my biggest concern, because there is no way I am going to win a wrestling match against a man. My best bet is to keep distance between any attackers and myself so that I have time to shoot or else get away.
Especially since I am a mother of small children, I need to ensure their safety too.
Krav Maga is really good to learn as a civilian 100% Personally I like to do a mixture of that & mainly MCMAP

@@Patriot578 Keep training with pistols, knives, hand-to-hand combat as well as any other non-conventional weapons. The more you train and learn the better you'll be in life. Hopefully one day you will not need it but be ready for the day you do 👍🏻

What if the attacker struggles like, you know, a real person? The disarm doesn't end as soon as you touch the gun. I doubt somebody's just gonna let go of their gun, without a fight, as soon as you put hands on the weapon, that's naive to think you're safe from a gun if you've trained only this...
When you apply it properly it is ripped from their hands. They aren’t letting go. If you use locks, they definitely can’t hold onto it.
If you can’t perform something as easy as this, the chances of you surviving a struggle is even less.
Practice the simple things first and grow from there.
