Good morning Gareth! Hope everyone enjoyed the long-weekend. My Nan (R.I.P.) made the best Yorkshire batter ever'(bar none!) an East Londoner born & bred, the knowledge she was born with suggests she was born somewhere far north of the 'Watford Gap'. Thank you for another fine film! VBW x
I practically only use previous food holders for my cooking, like your toad in the hole foil container. I get 3 or 4 uses out of them before they're useless, and I recycle them. I always have 8-10 backups!
Hi there Gareth, those Sausages in the Toad In The Hole were Pork Herb Sausages - Lincolnshire Sausages are Herb Pork Sausages and are the ideal sausage for the Full English Breakfast. Meanwhile the Cumberland Sausage is flavoured with spices and is an ideal sausage for Sausage and Mash. Best wishes and take care. Kind regards, Peter Skuce. St Albans. Hertfordshire.
Marks do really nice meals in a Yorkshire pudding, but of course they're a bloody sight more expensive. This didn't look too bad at all and will give it a go thanks to your review 😊👍
My favourite store bought toad in the hole is actually also the cheapest! I think 85p and it’s uncooked batter with 4 sausages so you get to actually cook and rise it. It’s the cheap Tesco brand Hearty Food Co. 85p!!
this is a favorite of mine!! i knew the sausages would be a fail for you because you like pepper, its really so much better with a nice thick onion gravy, good mash and veg
I think I'd prefer this one over the £1 Iceland Toad in the Hole due to the fact that that dish takes an absolute eternity to cook (being frozen obviously!!), whilst this one only needs heating up!! 👌
How does it compare with the Iceland £1 range Toad in the Hole? With that one you have to cook it, not reheat it. As you say make your own, with the sausages you like. A drop of Brown sauce would be lovely with that.
Blooming heck that looks scrumptious 😋. Lots of mash potato, peas & carrots with gravy. Although i would prefer me mum's Yorkshire pudding, that's really scrummy 😋.
You can make your own in 25 minutes with a much smaller ingredient list, just pre brown the Sausages. If you want more of a rise add another yolk to the batter, but this will be more crispy and brown and less pudding like. A thin receptacle like the one showed will heat up quickly which helps the outside edge set and rise quickly. I have always used lard as my fat as a lot of other oils like Olive oil don't get hot enough. If when you pour your batter in it doesn't immediately bubble around the edges its not hot enough, but there should always be another go to get it right.
And onion grav. My Mum came from Co. Durham and her version of Toad in the Hole and Yorkshire Puddings had herbs in the batter which made the batter more delicious. She also used to make a variant dish using lamb chops instead of sausage or half and half, but I have never seen anyone else refer to this.
I'd fill that with mash, peas & carrots then smother the lot in some very thick gravy. Would elevate it beautifully as Yorkshire Pud on it's own is quite bland. Amazing what gravy does for it.
Sainsbury's do their own frozen bargain brand version of individual yorkshires and are as good as any of the "I want some easy yorkies to put in the oven to go with the rest of the meal" etc....
I make my own Toad in the hole, I cook my sausages separately because I like the Yorkshire pud to rise nicely in the roasting tin, same thing only the batter cooks better, with a nice onion gravy, served with veg or baked beans, depending on what we fancy.
Making your own toad in the hole tastes better, with creamy mash n veg n lots of gravey, lovely. Last time I bought one it was a iceland one n a bit tasteless. 👌
Cheers Kidda for the barcode, scanned it and nearly choked 30.1/2 slimming world syns (not points) for a half. I'm allowed 15 a day so that's blown that one out 😭. Will have to try it when I'm not dieting 🤣🤣
That looked the best I have ever seen from the frozen section. Usually, when you take them out of the tray after cooking, the fat pours out, and the batter isn't cooked properly.
Cooking in an aluminium tray is a bad idea health wise, or wrapping anything to cook in aluminium foil, foil is ok for keeping things warm after cooked or wrapping cheese up with for example.
All you need to do is put some Lard in a Baking tray, mix some flour, an egg and some milk and salt in a Bowl. Heat the lard until it's really hot, then pour the mixture into the hot melted lard. Put some Sausages at room temperature in the flour mixture and put it in the Oven at 180°. Then pour Gravy over it !!! It should taste Delicious !!!
I guess you can guess my response to this review 🥴🤔. Toad in the hole is delicious with some rich beef and onion gravy. To be honest there is no difference between Yorkshire made or Sussex made. There not like a Cornish pasty or Cheddar cheese aged in Cheddar Gorge caves. This is just another lazy persons gimmick. Me ? I like to make my own. It’s a great feeling to watch your batter rise to a lovely crispy pudding. Also you can add your own favourite sausages. I will openly admit I used to be pretty strict when my kids were younger and I was making Toad in the Hole. No banging of doors, no opening the cooker door etc. Because I wanted my batter to rise with no interference, so it would sink. It’s not even a hard meal to make. Sausages and a batter mix, whatever’s in can go wrong ? Make sure your batter is light and airy, not too stodgy. You ensure you cook it in beef dripping and it’s nice and hot before adding your batter. Bung it in the oven and make sure you don’t open the oven until you know it’s cooked. Otherwise it will deflate. Make sure your gravy has a really rich flavour. My old mum used to make the gravy using beef bones. I’m not that critically minded. A good beef stock will do with some green onion for added flavour. I haven’t made it in a long while, but your review has got me thinking I should. Many years ago, in the 70’s I used to go to a greasy spoon cafe that did Toad to order. In todays cafe scene ? I miss homemade Toad, bread pudding and Bubble and Squeak. I do sometimes make a batch of bubble from my Xmas leftovers. A mostly forgotten meal from way back.🥴🥴. Sometimes I wonder if the UK is forgetting it’s food heritage ?
I notice the photo on the box shows gravy being poured ,but there's none in the box,you have to make your own, why don't they include a sachet of nice onion gravy.
As an American I find the "not suitable for home freezing" thing really weird. What is the deciding factor that makes an item suitable for freezing or not?
It may have been frozen and defrosted for sale, making it unsuitable for re freezing. Or it could be that the texture of something would alter dramatically after freezing then heating.
yes right the wife would get the bigger piece. i can really see that happening. just get a large YP and add 4 sausages you like cheaper than £2.75 All they done is use a posh name and put it in a box hiked up the price
We have had this, think it came from Aldi, very disappointed in it, the wife left hers as she said it had a strange taste. There Gastro curry's are very good though.
They don't look at all bad to be honest Gareth however mate a lot to be said for making your own Toad in the hole with Yorkshire pudding batter and Fresh Cumberland sausages with a dash of salt and white pepper in the Yorkshire pudding batter and served when cooked with onion gravy and buttery mash 😋😋 and marrowfat pea's 😋😋 yummy 😋

Great tip!
I tried this out of the co-op, although it was reduced to 60p at the time which made it tastier!

Cheers Peter, all the best pal 👍
I have had these a few times and they are quite nice. M&S are better but more expensive.
"made for sharing....i dunno about that." great minds or whatever they say! 😋😂
I see the hair transplant went well Gaz 😂
My bad, you took your cap off in the end! Or was that a continuity error?
Haha 👍
Great review Gaz perhaps if they supplied gravy with it and that might of boosted it up a bit 👏👏👍👍
Cheers Peter
It’s all right if you’re rubbish at making Yorkshire’s but you can’t beat your own .great vid G as usual mate 👍
Absolutely cheers
It looks very dry considering how it came out the oven. Needs a load of gravy and vegetables with that. :)
I dug a tandoor oven in the garden to cook this last month
Marks do really nice meals in a Yorkshire pudding, but of course they're a bloody sight more expensive. This didn't look too bad at all and will give it a go thanks to your review 😊👍
Hi Gareth, Love toad in the hole, that will go nice with chunky chips garden peas and covered in onion gravy , Take care🤤😋👍
Sounds great! Cheers pal
Can't beat a good old Toad in the hole........Never seen it in my local Asda tho, or I would of had one by now....... :)
We're having homemade with all the trimmings this Friday.cant wait 😋
Oh yes please 😋😋
Yes i used to make Yorkshire bitter in London...!?! It was " brewed in Yorkshire" just not that particular tin ha ha
My favourite store bought toad in the hole is actually also the cheapest! I think 85p and it’s uncooked batter with 4 sausages so you get to actually cook and rise it. It’s the cheap Tesco brand Hearty Food Co. 85p!!
I get these every now and then when I can't be bothered making one from scratch, great with rich thick onion or mushroom gravy.
this is a favorite of mine!! i knew the sausages would be a fail for you because you like pepper, its really so much better with a nice thick onion gravy, good mash and veg
Needs lashings of gravy and mint sauce mate 👍🏻. Oh nearly getting to the 💯 sub's amazing job Gareth
Thanks 👍

Fair point mate
I used to cook this all time , ovens on the blink , so I might invest a temp fix 😂 ✌️
I do love all natural food, with a list of ingredients that reads like War & Peace 😂😂
You remind me of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit !! Love the vids by the way 👍
Glad you like them!
Great comfort food again , although sounds painful especially if nails not trimmed properly first .
Thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜
You are so welcome!
Great videos keep them coming ,hope your absolutely spot on mate 😎
Thanks 👍
Love the little snigger when you said you would give your wife the biggest half.Yeah,we believe you gaz😂
Haha 👍 😄

Got Blackcap in me garden, County Durham

Differntly gravy needed.

Looks great , those silver trays are good for a homemade lasagne Gav
I'd fill that with mash, peas & carrots then smother the lot in some very thick gravy. Would elevate it beautifully as Yorkshire Pud on it's own is quite bland. Amazing what gravy does for it.

Gareth Sainsburys do the same one i live near thorne, doncaster they are lovely i have them regularly they are tasty 😁
Yes, can't beat honemade Gareth. With loads of gravy.😀👍
Absolutely mate 👍
Can not beat a British Sunday dinner, I was brought up on them. Great review.
Cheers Steve
I make my own Toad in the hole, I cook my sausages separately because I like the Yorkshire pud to rise nicely in the roasting tin, same thing only the batter cooks better, with a nice onion gravy, served with veg or baked beans, depending on what we fancy.
That's a great idea!
That would be nice with some onion gravy
Oh yes mate
I'm sure there is a law somewhere that says it's illegal to eat yorkshires without onion gravy!
Pricey but if your in a hurry or struggle to get Yorkshire pudding to rise would be ok with extras on the side.
For convenience yes maybe, but you can’t beat a home cooked Toad in the Hole! Cheers for the review Gaz ….Smithy
Cheers mate

I’ve tried these from every supermarket but the sausages are always crap wherever you get it from .
Been around for years these things and you can make your own that blows this crap away!
Who dint like a good old yorky. I’ve just cooked chicken thighs an drumsticks in a casserole, slow cooker with dumplings 😊😊
Like you want said, don't mess about with sausages, keep them simple, if I see anything with Linc's sausage in I avoid, but we are all different.
I usually make my own, but for a lazy shelf grab this is a filler upper!
Not a bad effort there Gareth! But nothing beats homemade 👍
Can it be cooked in the air fryer?
Needs gravy😀, as you said, looks very filling, good video Gaz, hope you are well.
You too Dougie
Did we find out about the pork sausage question what was it
hi bald guy I was getting these at aldi until last week told they are seasonal items 😂 off to asda then😊
The Aldi frog in a bog is good.
Simple, but can be lovely
Could put the mash, greens and gravy in it like a dish. It is shaped just right for it. :)
Great idea!
I recon people want to scan the bar code with there Yuka app, it tell you how good or how bad it is for you on a scale of 0 to a 100,
That looked the best I have ever seen from the frozen section. Usually, when you take them out of the tray after cooking, the fat pours out, and the batter isn't cooked properly.
Is fresh not frozen that's probably why
@@BaldFoodieGuy sorry I didn't realise that. I'll look out for it in the chillers.
telling it like it is lad... keep the vid`s coming mate
Will do cheers
Thanks Gaz I love Yorkshire pudding 🍮 😍 bud thought it might ok but a miss from me.
No worries Tim cheers 👍
Mars bars made in Mars ( no )
yorkshie puddings doe it really matter where they are from ?
island have one very similar for £1.
That looks exactly like the M&S Toad in the Hole!
We do eat Yorkshire puddings in the south as well you know. Even though we are snobs 😀
I buy the aunt besses told in hole its nice get 2 sausages in it
Four sausages for two to share? Is that kiddies portions?
Cooking in an aluminium tray is a bad idea health wise, or wrapping anything to cook in aluminium foil, foil is ok for keeping things warm after cooked or wrapping cheese up with for example.
I reviewed that like 3 months ago

As this is from Yorkshire shouldn't it have a t'ab system?!
had these alot bin out good few years now realy nice sainsburys do one the same realy nice
Aunt Bessie's is also a Yorkshire company.
I notice the photo on the box shows gravy being poured ,but there's none in the box,you have to make your own, why don't they include a sachet of nice onion gravy.
ive had these from sainsburys priced £2.60 i thought they were pretty decent.
That looks alright Gareth and will be good with new tatties and veggies and lots of gravy
I have had these before very nice
Ive had these a few times

Its the meat. The meat may have been delivered to the factory already frozen. Its a real no no to reheat meat
Should be accompanied by a mug of Yorkshire tea
Is there a chance of seeing Gaz eat some greens.
Erm 🤔
toad in the hole? nah, it's a frog in the bog in my house, haven't made it in a long time, could be on the menu for next week 😋
If they want me to scan my items in the supermarket I want 20% off because I'm doing their job
That's why they suggest a rich gravy to give it slippage and extra flavor.
Slippage!!!!! love it!!!!!
@@trevorhalliday793 Not mine, but the Bald foodie guy.

Herbie sausages made with 53 varieties of Beetles!..😂
Well they are putting bugs in the food WEF!
You always cut a pizza into 4 pieces and 8 pieces but never 5 or 6
Any chance of a live friday night show tomorrow mate?
Sorry David I won't be mate
if you have mash and veg will do 2

Mmmmmmmm, love them with roast beef and potatoes, mmmmmmm😂😂❤❤❤
Seems expensive to me, for 2 sausages and a bit of batter you could throw together in a couple of minutes
Where the fudge is the mash, and miss where's ,lets get a bit of better light 😂😂
