- So I've got a Winters SEO community tournament thingy in June and I'm really trying not to bring Hypercrypt Necrons, cos they are just broken good. Instead I thought I would throw down with a tough Death Guard list against a tough Eldar list. Let's see how this goes.

Excellent battle report as always! There regrettably was a bit of a critical mistake on the Eldar play. I think in reality the Deathguard would have edged this. There was a lot of use of Phantasm on units that were not eligible as it can only be done on Infantry. I'm pretty sure it only allows of D6 movement too now rather then 7". I do think that really shifted the game.
Yeah, I agree. It was my bad not realising. It's a wake up call knowing I got that wrong. Deathguard would have won it for sure if I hadn't misplayed.
@@chrisfraser4007 To be fair it was not for absolute sure. Winter's would have still needed some charges and you might have still rolled well when needed on Infantry. I wouldn't threat either as it was a preparation game, they are good for working out kinks, catching things out and what not before the event.
It still was a good game to watch on a nice lazy Sunday too. I wish ye both good luck on the event!

Mortarion's aura ignores all modifiers except to saving throws, so the half damage on the Avatar is ignored

Why would that ability modify a saving throw?
He also shot the bikes indirect on T1 with the PBC mortar at minus 1 to hit but that is also ignored because of Mortarion's aura
You see, even with the horrible rolls for Eldar at the begining, the op shit still leads to victory. Why fucking bother rolling dice when built in rerollls and rune dice assure op guns kill everything?

Entertaining game, but a lot of mistakes in rules and decision making, DG could have won this relatively comfortably.
1) Phantasm only works on infantry.
2) Morty's aura ignores all modifiers, including the Avatar's half damage.
3) dropping the first unit of terminators was in a bad spot to begin with, but the Prism phantasming away of course isnt legal so could have worked out still.
4) Could have moved the wraithguard brick turn 4 to deny Defend stronghold aswell as deploy homers, allowing the Swooping Hawks to drop in a corner for Investigate Signals.
5) Probably worth dropping Typhus in a more central location so he can dish out more mortals to more targets. I also find him far more effective with Poxwalkers, you basically give him +20 wounds with a 5+++
Still fun to watch of course, but if this is practise for a tournament, definitely worth looking at some feedback! :)

Phantasm can only be used with an infantry. Also,the wraith guard gets lethal hits when led by the Spirit Seer

The death guard won this game. Eldars can only phantasm infantry units and its only d6" move.
Mortarion also allows to ignore all modifiers and winters kept hitting the mortars on 4+ 😅 also avatar's half damage is also a characteristic modifier as it modifies the weapons damage modifier, and gets ignored by mortarions ability.
Just checking that Phantasm is infantry only, so using it on the bikes and tanks wasn’t correct?

Yeah I'm saying this is a win for the death guard, not only the avatar of khaine should have been taken out a few turns ago because Morty ignores half damage but phantasm only works on infinity units, their was way too many times phantasm was used on units that weren't infinity on moments I think would have changed the game

I love that you keep mixing it up with narrative and more competitive play. Great lesson in how if a big unit doesn't kill much but scores points and scares the opponent into acting a certain way its still doing work

Great game but, "um actually" time, 2:37 The Windriders actually Reroll 1's when targeting the closest unit, and reroll all when targeting a unit that is on an obj.

Re: "Is this army too elite?", I think while the few number of scoring units does dramatically lower your margin of error, the low number of unites on the board and reduced data sheets means a lower mental load during tournament play. I would definitely take something like this to a tournament and expect to have a great time at the mid boards!

Awesome game. Good on Winters for the well fought game against the enduring eldar.
Interesting game to watch as always. Just a note, Mortys ability to ignore modifiers means the PBCs can ignore the penalty to shoot out of LOS, but even better he can ignore the avatar's half damage, which meant you'd have killed him anyway! Do love seeing Eldar get what they deserve :)
At 26:58, only infantry can phantasm.

The Farseer leading her kin against the scions of Nurgle, foresaw a very, *very* narrow path to the future, where she might die to a Plagueburst mortar shot.
She really like her odds, but got splattered by a mortar shot in the first round anyway.
I'm now wondering how do other souls in the Infinity Circuit will react to that once they meet her there 😂

Your PBC's turn 1 are hitting on 3's, not 4's as Morty allows you to ignore the BS modifiers from indirect!

I doubt that all the killed units are in contagion range. Also how does the tank hit on 2 if he is firing indirectly? Even with Cover I would expect hitting on 3s.
Great vid guys - i play DG . Im not sure you need -1AP against the glass cannon of eldar TBH , i often go WS/BS shiz.
How'd you boilblight turn 1 on tank 2? You need the bikes within 3 inches of a unit for contagion. I doubt the drone was after the movement phase even before casualties.
Great Aelderi list, maybe split the wraithguard into two smaller units.
A big chunk lives longer, they can still split fire as needed. And it saves on a second spirit seer

Enjoyed your battle report's 👍 & have noticed that your low dices are due to fluffy gentle dice 🫴 roll's not have 👐heavy handed dice rolls that may be up setting the dice God's & you could try using maggot king dice for better results in games & keep up the fantastic good work 👍 .
A Gentle thought 🤔 i was using standard dice for my Death Guard Army & was rolling badly but changed over to maggot king/chaos dice + doing much better theses days now & last have considered adding The Purge worshipers of Nurgle a renegade chaos warband space marines/human zombies to your fantastic Death Guard Army, wicked 😈.

Great game that is a hard Eldar list. Have u thought about a Farseer with warlock conclave? Either foot or jet bike .
For the points I don't think the conclace adds much value?
In my mind's eye I imagine the solitaire dispatching more plague zombies then the Avatar of Khaine to be an indisputably eloquent representation of the elders rise and fall, impotence and tragedy... I imagine by the end of the combat it seems as if the Avatar is in fact trying to strike the solitaire as he dances amongst the slaves of nurgle

Those Eldar are beautiful, however, those D-cannon batteries need to be a.) The right actual models (those aren’t D-cannons) b.) not on the right size bases at all.
Kinda important to things if you’re going to a tournament.
T1 DG shooting, boilblight can only be used on an enemy unit within contagion, the PBC should not have done as much dmg to the bikes

It's worth noting that when you half damage it follows BODMAS so rolling a 3 is 3 halved to 2 then +1.

Also how can the Solitaire die to one Attack of a Poxwalker? He made 3 out of 4 invuls so I would expect him to have still 2 wounds remaining.

You are not using correctly boil blight. It says one friendly unit and one enemy unit within contagion rage of that unit. You had nothing in contagion range turn 1 to use it.
I played my first match vs Deathguard last months, and it wasn´t really fun. Is it true that Typhus unit is -2 to hit in melee?
Yes but let me point something: you can't stack more than -1 to hit. What might have happened is Death Guard using the contagion that worses your WS by 1, and that CAN stack with -1 to hit.
Worsens your weapon skill by 1, and his unit is -1 to hit in melee for an effective -2.
How do eldar players keep a straight face explaining their tanks can use another tank for line of sight?

As many other have point out , i am not even going to watch this video because the eldar mis/understood/play/remembering the rule ALTER the result of the game way too much.
Respectfully, the eldar player needs a little more experience with the army before taking it to a tournament. A lot of misplays/ mistakes were made

@dragma907 for the points investment? Ehhhhh. Not really efficient tbh. You kinda have to invest into supporting PBCs if you take 3x of them. But with the new rules of indirect, it doesn't even matter. PBCs are just super meh rn, plague marines and DS termies are the new way to go. Kharnivors for support. Mortarion to support plague marines in rhinos
