You're so unbelievably underrated as a channel that it's mind-boggling. Loved this episode as always. Varo is one of my favourite artists and you did her justice.
Thanks so much for featuring Remedios Varo, she is the most highly underrated surrealist painters and one of my favorites. I wish More people knew her!
It’s a shame that it’s so hard to see her actual paintings too because most are in private collections. I was lucky I got to because there was a Surrealist Women exhibition where I live and there were 3 of hers there. I was very excited just to see those
I returned to and rewatched this video as I am reading Claire McMillan's gorgeous novel, Alchemy of a Blackbird, a fictionalized account of Varo's friendship with Leonora Carrington and their interest in the tarot. Highly recommend the book, and I continue to recommend your channel to anyone and everyone!
It's a consolation to me that Anglophones complain about the speed with which you speak --- and you speak very well (eyes on the clock.) It's a gift. Very few people know the artist. MANY THANKS.
I’m so happy you’ve made another video! Your voice is like velvet on my ears and it’s such a treat to be introduced to a new female artist. Her work is absolutely captivating
Beautiful video on Remedios Varos! I saw her collection in Mexico city and fell in love with her art! Truly one of the best videos! Grateful for several circles!
wow I've had The Call in my opened tabs for weeks, thanks to a past video of yours. I owe you a debt, Several Circles, you've not only inspired me artwise but a huge influence on my own youtube channel where i've recently started producing biographies of scientists. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
How wonderful to hear! Amazing that you’ve started your own channel of biographies, it’s so rewarding to spend a little time with the figures who inspire you✨All the best!
I luv your videos. This one in particular. I love Remedios Varo's work and really appreciate all the things you talked about in here also love that you used very sharp beautiful images of her work (unlike others who use very low res and terrible reproductions!) Glad I am subscribed to your channel is a wonderful way for me to take a break & have tea from my painting sessions! keep up the good work!
Thanks for your work, I really apreciated the video. I fell in love with the Remedios Varo's work. I hope you will continue this channel with as much love as you put into this video
Hello, welcome back! We've missed you!! Your smooth voice, exquisite fashion sense, and first class art lectures is something we've all missed. Thanks for all your hard work.
I've never heard of this artist before and I love surrealism. Thank you for bringing her work to a bigger audience! Her paintings are just incredibly detailed and completely beautiful, fascinating!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@TheArtTourist Remedios absolutely deserves recognition as an artist! Perfect timing actually as I recently finished reading a biography on Leonora Carrington. Strongly recommended read if you haven't already!
I thank you so much for another great episode and thank you for this episodes community spotlight! Katherine Minnot’s work is spectacular and inspirational!
I did not know of Varo before seeing this video. Seeing her work is having a profound effect on me. Thank you for taking the time to create this marvelous channel.
Hello! First, let me tell you how much I love your videos! I'm no art scholar and this channel is one of the first things showing me how wonderful the world of art is and thanks to you I'm now expanding my knowledge and my ability to empathize with people and things outside of my circle. For that I'm greatly thankful 😌 May I ask, will you ever consider making a video about Zdzisław Beksiński? I bet you've been asked about it plenty of times but I'd appreciate if you could answer! Thank you very much for what you're doing and I hope to see more of you in the future ❤️
Wow! New to your channel and I am definitely going to subscribe! Came across Remedios while reading Leonora Carrington's biography. Remedios and Leonora were very close friends and I am very curious about her art. Thank you so much for posting this 💗 her art is sublime
Amazing content as always. I'm so glad to know you are still doing vids! Loved that you finally covered Remedios Varo. There were so many paintings I had not seen!
Great video- as always! I first became aware of Varo years ago when I read the novel 'The Crying of Lot 49' - there's a scene where the main character is fascinated by "Embroidering the Earth's mantle" when she sees it in a gallery. I only found later that she was a real artist and not a fictional character :)
Thank you so much! Yes! I came across the book in my research, will have to pick it up sometime. We recently saw Embroidering the Earth’s Mantle for the first time at The Met and it’s really something.
First of all, thank you for all you do. The algorithm blessed me with your channel and I'm hooked. I was thinking about Varos yesterday for some reason so I came to watch your video. I already watched several videos in your channel :) I noticed that you mention Yves Tanguy. I love his paintings but there's little material about him out there. If you ever think about doing another surrealist I hope it will be him! :) Looking forward to your new content!
So excited to see a video about Remedios Varo! I first saw her work at an exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. I was a kid and was there with my mom and my brother and we were stunned because the paintings were so incredible and yet we were the only people in the exhibit. Great channel - looking forward to checking out the other videos!
Wow, I have 3 of her old canvas prints on my wall, and I have for years without knowing who the artist was! Thank you for this! Felt so familiar, then saw 2 of the 3 included in this video right above my tv 😂
Thank you!! We’ll definitely tackle Beksinski soon, we’re fans of his work and we’ve gotten quite a few requests for a video about him so he’s high on the list!
I have watched several of your videos, thay have all being amazing and more often than not very awe inspiring. Congratulations on your brilliant work! There are a couple of Mexican artists that you can create content about, spectacular in their works, they're José María Velasco and Dr Atl (Gerardo Murillo) the former making an impressive historical record of the bygone days of central Mexico and the later creating images of landscapes with an ancient and strong character slighlty akin of German expressionism. Cheers! 🎨
We made a video about her and her sister quite a while ago. One of our dream projects is to make a feature documentary about the sisters Macdonald. Meanwhile, enjoy! m.ua-cam.com/video/Py43KqqSLh8/v-deo.html
Didn’t know about this artist before. I’m astounded of her artwork - which in my opinion does a lot resemble Dali’s art; perhaps Remedios can be identified as female version of Salvador Dali?😏💖
Dali said in an interview that he would never return to Mexico because he did not tolerate a country more surreal than his own paintings. Now you know why magical mexico is inspiration for magical surrealism. 😊😊
Love this! She is such an amazing artist and deserving of more coverage. Check out a similar video on Remedios Varo here: ua-cam.com/video/g532QI8cCME/v-deo.html
