I'm passing my son's bedroom today, and I hear Claire Island blasting out. Just for a moment, a tear dropped from my eye & an acknowledgement to myself saying "you didn't do too bad, rearing a child born a breed in the heart of Stillorgan." It's the little things in life that connect us, like the Saw Doctors & long may it continue.
I discovered the Doctors last spring while checking out Steve Earl songs on UA-cam. I can't tell you about the impact there songs have made on me. Call me a late bloomer, call me a yank, call me what you will. Just remember that there are two types of music, good and bad. This is good music and anyone who thinks differently has shit tween there ears. Dr.s, please come to the Hudson Valley of NY on you next N. Am. Tour.
Watch them sing "Sweet Clare Girl." I saw the Saw doctors play at a Celtic Festival in Sebastapol, California, which took place each year a long time ago, but no more.
Listened to this version many, many times sitting in Burkes Bar, Clonbur after a days fishing on the Corrib. After spending hours on the lake with that fresh west wind blowing all day, sitting at the bar with a pint of the black stuff listening to this doesnt get any better. Its plain to see where the lads get their inspiration from, it eminates from the land. What a place and what a song. Up Mayo!
Went to a wedding in Westport last year. Got the ferry out from Roonah (cant spell it but ...) we were late for the ferry and the fella said don't bother and called it back for us. Only in Ireland, Coming back next year. Superb
There's no better Saw Doctor song that this one. An absolute classic. Loved it when it first came out and I love even more now. Everytime I hear a Saw Doctors song, it makes me exceptionally proud to be Irish.
The Saw Doctors are a special band. Been following them for around 25 years now. Always look forward to them coming for a good Christmas concert in Glasgow. 🍀
Went to the pier at Roonagh in March, looked out at Clare Island. The wind was up and the sea was roiling. I would have headed out in the moment if we could have had the opportunity. Drove up the N17 on the way, through Galway and Mayo..
One of my favourite bands of all time. I always associate their music with the backpacker (travelling) generation from Ireland. It was our music but with universal themes and we sang them - loud and proud. I look forward to meeting ye on Clare Island (not literally, of course!)....
I understood "Looking for a pizza" ! In the meantime I got it.. it´s big star. I have been in Ireland several times. had seen the saw docters in Dublin, Stuttgart and Galway! Now I moved to northern Germany, because the weather here is a bit like in Ireland and I loved it.

Born in Essex near London, Dad from Dublin/Cavan, Mum from Cork, Dad's Aunt survived the Titanic, and my boy, who was sadly born after my Dad died in 2003, is named 'Cavan Joseph Michael Connolly'. You either understand blood or you don't. Much respect. I have seen these live twice. To coin an American phrase, 'Awesome'.
Brilliant, I get stupid looks when I have the Doctors on full blast maybe because ima “Prod” from the North but who gives a shit this is top quality music!
As a Limerick man, I thought at first it was about the banner, that's Co. Clare. Then I realised there is a Clare Island in Co. Mayo. Why don't Sawdoctors write a song about Sathill Co.Galway.
